I'm so glad you reacted to this one! As for the sax solo, it was in Whitney Houston's version. You can actually buy the sheet music for it, online, which may be what Lucy did. It sounds very much like the original, here in Lucy's video. (I Just looked down to see if anyone else mentioned the sax when you first published the reaction, and I see that that they did. I didn't see anyone mentioning the sheet music, though, so I'll leave this one in, as well 😀) Additionally, the sax is used a LOT, to indicate sadness, loneliness, regret, and other less-than-happy moods. It can be used completely in the opposite direction as well, which is why you will hear it in so many of the older songs. The saxophone is a HUGELY-flexible instrument. Most of the woodwinds are, but the sax has such a beautiful range, that it can be used in TONS of different settings, to bring the mood to wherever it is that the musicians and/or singers want to present (regardless of how the music was written in the first place). In this case, the sax solo agrees with the original Whitney Houston presentation, and Lucy obviously knew that it would. Whenever I hear Lucy sing songs from the older generations, I have a feeling that her mother has passed them down to her...some of them probably from HER own mother. I know I grew up (from age two onward) singing with my mom and her band, and I STILL know most (if not all) of those songs. I will never lose them. They are very, very precious to me. When I sing them, I pretty much cookie-fy them, as well. I WANT them to be that way, because that's how my mom sang them, and SHE learned them from the original singers (some of them, in person) way back when she was in her teens. In my Jr. Year of High School, for the annual Honor Choir gathering, I sang an adjudicated solo (I did, the other three years before then, as well). Our WONDERFUL music teacher (both choir and band) had to have a short argument with the officials that year, because I chose "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes." They thought I was too young to sing a "lounge song." Mrs. Miller told them I was NOT too young for that song, and explained a bit more ABOUT the song to them, and they quickly agreed to let me sing it. My models were Dinah Washington, and Nat King Cole. I could sing in either range, so I used them both -- a cappella. The adjudicators gave me the highest mark, and I got a trophy (long lost in one of my moves around the country...sigh). I still love the song, and would LOVE for Lucy to sing it, too! It's so beautiful! Thank you VERY much for your great reaction. Again, I'm really happy that you reacted to this one. Now onward to the others I haven't yet watched. 😀
Lucy was on the voice kids at the age of 14(now 20) getting to the semi finals, this was a tribute to W. H. from Lucy, she dosen't change the structure of the songs she sings to much but always puts her own stamp on them!,she was signed shortly after the voice kids by Chris Broom of Cavendish records(a new label)he has written a musical around Lucy titled 'Rosie',it has been in the pipeline for some time(Lucy's family wanted her to finish her schooling)& should hit the West End in 2025,Lucy has over 70 video's on u-tube,some with her younger sister Martha!,listen to them singing 'The Prayer',also Lucy's last 2 releases 'Unchained melody'& 'One moment in time',all are stunning!.😃
There are not enough superlatives to describe how wonderful and talented Lucy is. A legend in the making. Lucy is establishing herself as one of the top vocalists of this generation.
Thank you for a fine reaction to Lucy singing a song that many associate with Whitney Houston. I hear some of Dolly Parton’s idiosyncrasies in Lucy’s rendition. In my 70:years, I have never heard such a phenomenal singer. To me no one else compares. Lucy was paying homage to Whitney in this one and was only in the 15-17 year old range. She continues to mature and improve. This year (2024) she is just 20. She is simply the best.
Hi Pharaoh - appreciate the Lucy reaction! I think you will find Lucy really has a special voice if you continue to review. She just turned 20 earlier this year and is really just now starting to tour and get on the world stage. Her live voice is insane as well. Recommend you check out her Live Manchester performance of "At Last" or her recent release of "Unchained Melody" when you have time. Thx
Lucy has over 90 Covers and Originals including Duets with younger Sister Martha She has been on RUclips since she was only 14 and this ANGEL can Sing the Phone Book
First of all, Great Reaction, great choice of songs. Lucy Thomas is perfect in every song she does. Go ahead and watch Lucy's Hallelujah performed at age 16 (the 50m. view one) and then follow that with her Live performance Hallelujah which was the encore of her first live performance this past March at age 20.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Lucy Thomas. Perfection is the right word. She just passed over a billion views mark on TikTok with Hallelujah. Have to inform you about the rabbit hole. There is no way back. About 70 masterpieces on RUclips to react to. Don’t miss the wonderful duets with her 5y,8mo younger very talented sister Martha. Lucy did audition at 13 and got a record contract and a west end musical from that. She’s the best. Enjoy.
Hello Pharaoh. I might differ a little bit with you. I hear a little of Dolly in her rendition also. Lucy is just so crazy good. I have followed her for at least 3 years now. Lucy doesn’t attack music she just makes it more beautiful and sings the song the way it was meant to be sung. if you liked this from Lucy you must listen to her rendition of “Unchained Melody”. I promise she set this song on fire 🔥. Plus she is now 3 years older. So I will be looking forward to your next reaction from her. I will subscribe so I won’t miss the next song. Please stay safe, healthy, and free.
Hi, I agree with the problem with Lucy’s part of the audio. In order to hear both, the volume had to go all the way up. That caused you to be very loud and the video to be not quite loud enough. Most reactions balance both. As per Lucy’s rendition, in the comments, Lucy wanted to pay homage to the great Whitney. She purposely kept it true to the original. It’s also important to realize that this very talented singer was half the age of Whitney when she recorded this. I have been on this earth for a while and have never heard a 17 year old sing that well. I truly believe that Lucy Thomas will be one of the greatest if not the greatest singer that ever lived. So does her millions of fans. At her current age of 20 and as great as she is now, she still has between 7 and 14 years before reaching her prime. How amazing that will be!
Great Reaction Pharaoh! Lucy has such a clear, pure, full, rich voice. And Lucy was only 17! Please play and react to: “ALL BY MYSELF"; (So powerful!); - Age 18 - ruclips.net/video/4Y1ThLEezys/видео.html And: “UNCHAINED MELODY” (So beautiful); - Age 20 - ruclips.net/video/mqkx7Av6yMg/видео.html Enjoy, Hopelessly Addicted in Arizona
Lucy is amazing. She's right there with my top four current female singers. Lucy, Jackie Evancho, Sarah Brightman and Ellen Williams. I just discovered Ellen and she has a spectacular voice. I didn't think that the sax solo was odd at all. Having grown up in the '50s and '60s the saz solo was very common in the music of the era. Also, how could she have sung it any differently than she did? It's such a classic song that to sing it any way that didn't sound like Whitney's version would be criticized as not being true to the song. If you love a song, why would you want to hear it sung differently?
Lucy Thomas did this song as a tribute to Whitney Huston, that is why it it is so close to the original version. A lot of reactors do not do their home work, and find out this a tribute, so you get them saying oh, this is just like the original, or why did Lucy not make it her own. Common people do so fact checking before putting the song on.
This song by Whitney is in my car's playlist cause mumsy loves it .. I do think Whitney is still best at it. If Sydnie Christmas singing this she'd be even better ✨
Could you react to a Dan Vasc song? Amazing grace is my favorite but I love I'll make a man out of you also. He is a metal singer on youtube. All of his music is great
