I love the scenic beauty of Savannah Georgia, and all the wonderful old architecture. They claim that Savannah is one of the most haunted places in America.
Your lovely video has inspired me to rewatch the movie. Thanks for sharing this with us Steve, peace...

I made a train trip out to Savannah in 1998. Loved the book and my trip out to Savannah. The movie is good but edited to include things that are part of Savannah history but not necessarily related to the story. Thanks for showing Danny's final resting place. I want to see where Jim is laid to rest. Thanks again for your video.

Love Johnny Mercer and Savannah GA! I've been to Bonaventure Cemetery. Did you tour the Mercer House? So beautiful inside with amazing oil paintings some as large as 8 ft mounted on the walls! The house is privately owned by a family who reside in a section not open to the public. I read the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, never seen the film. Book is amazing! 😃

      @@theretiredlifewithsteve my pleasure.
I am a history nut, amateur archeologist and I grew up in the SF Bay area (Really the San Jose Bay Area, but besides Dionne Warwick and tech bros no one thinks about us), so I have a bit of a fascination with graves and cemeteries especially since San Francisco was covered in them. And when I came across your videos looking up more info about the true events from the book and film, I decided to take a look.
If you are interested in other graves, I got one for you. She's not really a LGBT icon, but if you aren't familiar with her and your ever back in Colma, look up Big Alma Spreckels... The God Mother of San Francisco. She was a bit of a wild woman and brought fine art to San Francisco. She built the Palace of Fine Arts, the Legion of Honor and other museums. Coined the phrase "Sugar daddy", her husband was the heir to the Spreckels sugar fortune, and the popular myth is that's her on top of the Union Square plinth... Besides Charles Howard, she is one of my favorite San Franciscans because to me she represents the old SF spirit (which i desperately miss, so don't get me started on modern sf transplant culture lol).
Speaking of the Legion of Honor, here's a creepy cemetery story... When they moved the cemeteries out of San Francisco to Colma, a lot of the graves just had the stones moved, not the bodies and many of those bodies were dumped in mass graves under Lincoln Park, where the Legion of Honor sits today. There could be as many as 10,000 bodies under the park... So, in a way, Big Alma's Legion of Honor is one of the nicest and most art filled tomb stones in the word...
But it's not the only one in San Francisco... The other is the Asian art museum in the civic center... But that story involves body snatching, turning human remains into soap and selling the soap to unsuspecting San Franciscans... lol
Sorry I went off on a tangent.

Nicely done, I really liked the book and had totally forgotten it was a true story. Thanks for making the characters real again. Cheers and best wishes. 🎶🦘
