John and Catherine are a husband and wife team from Redding, Connecticut. We grow food and flowers on just under 2 acres of property, but we just bought 40 acres of land and are working on building our small farm from the ground up using reclaimed materials whenever possible.
Buying baby ducks back in the 90's convinced me to write ducks off for life! Never again! Love this predator proof run in the water!
I'm with you we had ducks once and never will again. This was a build for a friend. Ducks make too big of a mess!
I love how the beginning of this video is like an infomercial 😂
note to self, Krissy you will never get ducks, LOL! John I watched till the end and I wanted to see the ducks in all their glory, show us the damn ducks in the enclosure, LOL! BTW it looks great!
LOL sorry, next video, promise !! but yes, don't get ducks. save yourself.
I love the idea! I've been brainstorming a way to get our ducks onto the pond safely. We also have several predators to protect them from and need to figure out how to keep their section free of ice come winter. Now my mind is racing with ideas!
Ducks are excellent eating tho ~ THAT 1 thing i love about ducks ~ "Ain't no rest for the wicked" ~ Life must go on! I got bills to pay, things to do, and a little bit of play! 😆 Some one love ducks he hee ~ mine never did stink, nor dirty, they did more good than bad ~ Humans poop more than ducks do, Look at all the good fertilizer there spreading ~ Up by the Great Lakes, man tried to build things into there natural territory ! Warehouse, offices buildings, homes, ect. They poop all over every thing they built 👍 idk how many billions of dollars was lost? It now, all lays in ruins, today!
Oh how neat! Wow! Wendy Hardnack Farms❤️🧚🏻🐞
Killing it buddy! That thing is great and your right ducks never stop pooping like ever! We had ducks once upon a time and they were crazy messy
raccoons will go true the chicken wire
it happened to me
i used wired mesh
cool looking and very well done Johnny Boy!!!
Wow! So much thought and work!! Sure hopes Eileen appreciates what she got!
I love my ducks!
I'm glad! We never liked having our own ducks that much so we were happy to work on someone else's duck projects and not have our own for now.
That is seriously so cool! Ive never seen anything like it before. We gotta see a video of the ducks in it! 🦆🦆🦆
Hah yes we will add some footage with the ducks into the next video for sure
Does your Emue require some kind of grind up shells or gravel ect? like chickens and ducks? to help digest there foods? We had plenty of sand for them to eat too, but they needed the sharp shells, and pea gravel
They don't actually do all that much pooping in the water. Ducks are 'filter feeders' and will scoop up mud and dirt in their mouths, and swish through the water to filter out tiny things like seeds, tiny invertebrates, etc. The dirt comes out and the edibles stay in. But yes, it absolutely makes a huge mess of the water! SO MUCH MUDDY SLUDGE!
But this is a gorgeous duck palace. My guys would love to be able to access my swamp out back from their run, but there are 20+ of them, so it wouldn't work really well, unfortunately.
That’s the truth! Ours are super messy as well! Like the idea for sure! I don’t think the coop area would be big enough for our ducks. Will you be doing a follow up video with the ducks in it!?
That’s AMAZING !!!
Don't forgot that nasty thing where they make those mud slurry puddles by moving their heads back and forth and making that nasty sound, and then drink it!
There just cleaning the water from snails, water bugs and bad things
@@426superbee4 mine would do it to fresh water right out of the tap - spill it out onto the ground, make a mud hole, and eat it.
@@HallHomestead he hee got to love em. That ducks for you, they love water and mud.. That how they get grit into there stomachs , to digest there food. like chickens eat ground up shells and pea gravel and things
Hah, good point! Ducks are super gross for tons of reasons.
Now I want a Shangrila duck pond and coop😂
This is a great idea! 😀 maybe show us an update video of the ducks in it to see how they like it.
Geese. They out poop the ducks here in the Mitt. I do like your duck sanctuary; had a similar duck-run plotted out for a property I was looking at a couple of years ago😉👍
Hah well if geese poop more than ducks then geese will never be for me! They also look so mean ! hard pass over there.
great video.
There are many species of ducks that aren't loud but all ducks are messy lol.
Sand works great for keeping the mud down in their pens wherever they can get into water and make a mess.
why did you put the wire on the inside vs on the outside of the pen?
I put the wire on the inside vs outside just for aesthetics, so that you wouldn't see the fasteners and seams from the outside
5 minutes your being generous I think it is closer to 5 seconds and the water is gross 😉
Hah yes you're probably right. Ducks are messy little devils
Interesting idea. Depending on how many ducks there are and how much they are fed, it might work without fouling the pond to badly, at least when the water level is high. The pond appears to be largely covered by duckweed. Whatever reaches into range of the ducks will make an excellent food source and could reduce the need for purchased food.
Yah the ducks have def. Kept that one little section of pond clear of duck weed which has been nice.
This thing is ridiculously cool!!
Thank you !
That is freakin amazing.. Sorry I’ve been mia, life has been crazy hectic here for me. But seriously I absolutely think this coop and run is brilliant.
Never need to apologize for crazy life! Its so hard to keep up !
Cool idea!
Thanks!
How awesome is this ? Great job 👍
Thank you 🤗
Love it! Amazing!
Thank you!!
This is brilliant! I bet you could get paid to make more of these for other people.
This was actually a paid build for someone else! We don't have ducks any more. Glad you liked it !
looks like a great set up. how do you really feel about ducks??
This is amazing.
Where's the ducks???????
Great job
Thank you
How did this hold up? Also, have you been struck by duck math? Lol i have! I have 20, most i hatched myself after most of my chicken flock was wiped out by a weasel! It killed my Drake and seriously injured my 2 girls (pekins). So I gathered every egg i could find and incubated them. I love my ducks, i was there when they were "born" 😂
Very cool. Only criticism is that you used chicken wire and not hardware cloth. Chicken wire is to contain chicken or in the case, ducks, it does not protect them from predators. Snakes, minks, weasels, mice, rats, etc can all get in that enclosure.
Also the pond needs an aerator.
Yup I hear you! This was built for someone who was paying to have it built, not at my own property. Budgets sometimes dictate materials.
YOU BETTER STOP BEING SO EXTRA!!!
Can't stop won't stop 😂
That chickenwire is worthless against predators.
Oh darn, I was waiting to see the ducks in it. Raccoons can rip chicken wire and they have no grass, sand, little rocks which they need.
Don’t need to watch you listen to your self…..
yourself is only one word.
