Yea, exactly. I guess it's more of a warning and a heads up to new and veteran players alike. Basically, don't waste resources early because no matter what, you'll always lose to someone in ranked if your star level is lower. I've seen many people upset and sad they lose. They don't know why, they think it's level, they think it's mpr, sometimes they legit have 0 clue. Some say "my stats are higher, why am I losing?" The fact that players wonder why, means the system isn't transparent. If it isn't transparent, why is there a ranked system and a leaderboard to reward players for "playing well". It's rewarding those who have been playing since EA and those who are buying packs. That is not a ranked system, that is not a leaderboard system. That is legit nonsense. I want everyone to be happy to play Speedstorm. I want everyone to always have nice things to say about speedstorm. I want everyone to have the same advantage as everyone else is speedstorm. Right now though, it's obvious they know what they are doing and to hide a boosted stat behind a star level is unacceptable. 😔 I love the game and I put so much time into it. Gameloft can definitely do better and I'm really hoping they remain open minded and really work on what's best for the game and ALL players. Not just those who cash out on packs every release. The whole player base wants to love this game. Come on Gameloft, make it happen.❤️

Man I’ve been suspicious for a while that there was a passive buff with star level. The stats I was getting wouldn’t add up to how much better I performed with that character. Thank you for knowing I’m not crazy
I noticed something similar with my Jafar. I played ranked, two stars, to get him to Multiplayer Rank 16 and stop there. On my way, I got him to three stars. Didn't level him up, because I had no bread. Before I was far behind in multiplayer races. After ranking up to three stars, I suddenly dominated all my races and had no clue what happened there. This made me wonder if the game placed me with worse players or if the stars gave me a hidden stat bonus.
Yes, I've tested it on many characters and classes. Even without crew, you definitely have a boost from staring up. This is pretty much why I felt the ranked system as well as the leaderbard system are rewarding upgrades over skill from the players. I really hope season 5 changes that. That is no way to run ranked/leaderboard events. It's kind of like...the rich get richer? I along with other founders/cashers get more rewards for putting in less work. Whereas players who can't afford to upgrade or straight up can't get less? It's legit to the point where we can just drive straight without drifting and still have higher times on the leaderboard than everyone else AND stomp races in ranked. This was a huge eye-opener for me and I feel it's just not right. I know it seems strange to use the analogy of "rich get richer" but it really feels that way.
@@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 I get what you mean. This Season is when I started and the game trying to pressure me into buying things is noticeable. Materials are limited and hard to come by. Especially red drinks to get your newest characters up to a decent level. My "favourite" part was Chapter 4 or 5 from the Season Tour. You got Beast and Mowgli shards up until you were one shard short to unlock them. Then the next chapter had a path that required a Jungle Book and Beaity and the Beats character. I was sitting at 9 shards for Mowgli and Beats and the missing shard was locked behind both of those challenges. It didn't get better from there but at least the star chaser events were offered but I still had to grind for materials to turn off the cheating AI. It's exhausting and I'm at a point where I don't want to play anymore. Needless to say, I have little to no desire to get Mickey to Level 35 for Chapter 10. Those who already put effort and time into the game since day one don't feel it anymore, probably. As a new player, I had fun at first but the more I play, the more I notice the game wants me to spend a lot of money. I already dubbed it "The monetasation from hell" and the friend I convinced to play with me agrees. There are also other factors, like ranked and the creeping hunch there's a lot of cheating going on. But that's a different issue.

That's why I have way more fun on Regulated than Classification. On Regulated, when you lose it's clear that the rival is either better or got luckier than you with item boxes, and that's totally fine (Jumba exploding you 3 times in a row for example). I hope next season, Regulated gets some love, with a proper ladder, skill based matchmaking and better rewards. A good way to avoid people spamming S tier chars on Regu is to make it completely RANDOM. So you want to climb? After a certain point, all racers will be randomized and there will be bans. Let's say Belle, Jumba and Aladdin are banned. Only the other racers would be available in the randomizer pool.

What a cool video, you actually made me think a lot about this situation, i always lost for high level players but i never think about how they beat me, i always assume that was the level difference or luck, but what if the fact the racer have more stars gave them really a hidden better stats? That would change everything, everyone should see this video tho
I was listening in the background to the video so when my Speedstorm/PS Tag was mentioned, "Coolsonic099" I was jumpscared quite a bit. Interesting video though. I was not expecting stars to have such a strong impact. You've been a major source of Speedstorm tips for a bit now so thanks in general. @@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 I can't remember if this was a race I got stunned a lot in, but I have noticed times where I am just severely outspeeding everyone or they seem way faster than me even if I'm doing my best. The former sometimes made me unsure if everyone was just on Arbee Drive for some reason but if everyone was just lower stars that would explain a lot. I will probably be a lot more conscious to check that when matches seem too easy or impossibly rough.
That was jaw dropping not gonna lie. Though levels still matter a bit in terms of doing event races as the AI clearly cares only about your level and a single one in right "difficulty" range can decide between a cakewalk and sweating your bones off to win x.x
Interesting. I have 4 3 star racers and i started week 4 of alladin. The free stuff u get has gotten way better in that short time as well. I have 3 star alladin and he is really good. I got sooo lucky with the alladin coins

I wasn't aware you could star up characters without levelling them first, or was that changed in a recent patch? I play on the PS version of the game and I didn't see any way of just increasing the stars without levelling.
I think a lot of that might have to do with the fact that you are using a defender class for Buzz and Jumba. But still very impressive! I just finished getting all 37 of my characters to Diamond. I’ve found level 28 to be the sweet spot after getting to Emerald in terms of finding lobbies
I've done it with every class, you know me. I like to make sure I test as much as possible! Every class will win out most of the time if it's higher in stars. Also, congratz on getting them all to diamond!
This game it's funny but if you don't gonna put money into it, gonna be really frustrating to rank up. It's the only thing I don't like about it, cause the rankeds don't show real competition, just which wallet it's bigger. But also I understand why it's like that. First, because it's from Disney and also the same company that did asphalt, and second because it's free-to-play. Personally, i prefer to pay for a game, that a free-to-play game with micro payments and that doesnt' have a good ranked system.

No wonder its harder to win races even at higher lvl. I always use the resources i have and sometimes i have nothing left to upgrade them. I feel lost at ranked, and cant grind higher amd often losing. I just wonder how to get more shards to star them up 🤔

This video is amazing! I have Meg at 4 stars, level 40, and it's SO hard to win ranked races :( I know I got the skill. So what's preventing me from getting Meg to reach Diamond? 🤔
Sometimes if you notice someone is racing at a different skill level, check their profile on the end screen. I've lost to players who didn't drift or take shortcuts, only to notice they were a star or two ahead. Also, abilities that level when you star up make some racers just unbearable to deal with. (crew that levels their other abilities also make it more of a pain) This design would make sense for like a frantic mode or something where we're really having fun and earning rewards. But for more personally, ranked is where you try hard. I want to have it as evenly matched as possible.
Had a race last night where 1st place was just walking away on the last lap then, they came to a dead stop right before the finish line so my friend and I took 1st/2nd place…..so confused

I understand that star power is fondumental but how can a player raise a character at 4-5 stars? By paying ofc! I started playing a couple of weeks ago and my best racer is Genie at lv30 and 3 stars and idk where i can find more fragments of him except for the ranked, how can i possibly raise him to higher stars??
You get more stars by buying shards or earning them. (not all shards can be earned) Wait for events, roll loot boxes, do the racer boost event, or buy them in the shop with game currency or money.
Hey man, love your content. Got into DSS about 3 weeks ago and been consumed in your material - alll in haha. Games a blast. Whats the best way to star up? I know universal boxes, daily boxes etc and also ranked levels like 8, 15 etc. Still seems more a resisted grind..is that the way or am I missing something? Keep crushing brother
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the content, I always try my best! 1. Make sure you own the character (if you don't this won't work i believe). 2. Wait your shop out, eventually one of the characters you want shards for will pop up for coins. 3. Another way is to rank them up in multiplayer, but I'm sure you already know that. 4. Do every regulated, it's not a lot of shards, but it's something. 5. Get yourself to platinum on all racers, you don't need to place first and you can still rank up (you can even turn Arbee on and just passive rank up). Once it's on, watch a show, go do something, etc and rank up for basically afking. They will give you free cash, which is GREAT for when the character you don't own comes into the shop. I personally never use the universal boxes, they cost too much and it takes away from the shards you could potentially buy from the rotating shop. You only get a limited amount of yellow coins (at this current time), and even more so if you can't finish out the entire season tour due to character or level constraints. I'd only suggest using them if you don't already own the character. As most of the time, there is no way to get them without an event. I hope this helped!

Hey i just subscribed and on my PS5 and switch versions I need help getting characters to 2 stars most if the characters I have are under 10 shards so to get them to base 20 they NEED to get to emerald but 16 on for each character just to get to MPR 18 for character shards is tough place 5 you lose 5 points you place 6 you lose 10 points you get place 7 you lose 15 points and you place 8 you lose 20 points. I fear my next after in platinum I might lose more points and just 1st-3rd are the only rankings to get right now in MPR16 as long as I stay in 1-4th I’m safe but as I put next rank up I might need to stay between 1st-3rd or even 1st-2nd
@@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 I do but some characters I have need MPR 18 for 2 stars and others need to emerald MPR 23 and I think some need diamond MPR 28. I check their MPR when I get them from 00 shards onwards but it’s nice they now have a racer to get shards every 20 hours give or take after that it’s 750 tokens to replay any racer again. I’m using real money just to buy racers I missed now the only old racer I need to unlock is hades but he’s not available right now and the limited events are still running multiplayer coins not tokens. Waiting for the tokens in the cups but right now my only option for tokens is a 100 dollar card for 13,500 but that’s not enough for anything that I need anymore I don’t buy the Star up packs for anyone I try to get the Star up naturally. For the old characters I hope for shards to star up characters from the universal box the frozen characters on switch I have all but Elsa on PS5 I have all but Anna. What happens when you level a character up to 5 stars? The limited event it all started with a mouse is the easiest way to 5 Star Mickey
If you level a character to 5 stars, they are really fast. They also have insane character ability and skill power. That's one of the reasons this game has some really low, lows. Whether you're high or low rank, the system makes people take a break from the game quite often.
Multiplayer on free to play games will often have pay to win mechanics to make people spend money. Otherwise, they just don't make enough money from selling only cosmetics. I hate to see it but, I think its necessary to keep the game from shutting down. Do high-level players not play regulated multiplayer? its supposed to be balanced
There are a lot of free-to-play games that make money with a balanced system. I think what happened is they built the system a certain way and because it's been there for so long, changing it drastically might cause complications. The game was early access and you couldn't purchase shards or buy upgrades, you had to play and earn them. (although this still kind of means stars win out) Founds purchased multiple prices for the game and if they wanted to go that route they could have. League of Legends, Overwatch, Mario Kart (even though it's paid), and Kart Riders are free. I think free isn't really an excuse for unbalanced ranked play. I don't know, just an opinion and how I feel though.
Funny you mentioned that. I actually tested this. I raced with a level 1, 1 star. I also did it with a level 1, 4 star. Ironically, the "speed" doesn't actually matter in bot play. They are coded to sit with you and if you're under-leveled, one is coded to take off as SOON as you take your eyes off it. (it rounds a corner or anything like that where your screen can't see it). So essencially, levels don't really have a merit in how bot matches are handled. It's just a..."qualification" as you will, for an easier match. The higher the levels, the more the bots will ease up and let you win.

Yuuup, basically I just level one racer per collection. Then save my materials until I really need them. I know everyone can't really do that, but yea. You are forced to level if you're doing bot content.

Honestly Im curious as too how much the stars actually matter. Last season i grinded my 1 star lv 15 steamboat pete to mpr 23 to get hin to 2 stars. I noticed in order to win or atleast gain points i would have to be in a race with racers lv 29 and bellow and i would have to be a better player then everone else. I feel like staring up is probably a much bigger deal on characters with a speed boosting ability such as aladin or Buzz. For example i bet a lv1 aladin or a lv1 buzz 4 stars would beat their lv 25 counter part if that lv 25 is 2 stars. But im woundering if a character who dosnt have a speed boosting ability would have as easy a chance such as a lv 25 2 star Jafar vs a lv1 4 star Jafar.
I've tested it with all classes and multiple characters. It'll remain the same, if someone is a star above you, you most likely will lose. However, if someone is a star above, but you're capped out on levels and they are not, you'll have more of a chance. Stars give way more of a boost toward 5 stars. I do think the gap between 1 star and 2 isn't as major as 3/4/5. (that's just my personal experience and skill level, an average player most likely will not win regardless) If a player is one star ahead AND they cap their level, the person a star below will most likely take the L no matter how great they drive. I hope that clarifies my findings. I said in the video that I used other characters and classes, even specified a couple, but I know I didn't emphasize that point so a lot of people most likely could have missed it.

Yes, levels only matter in bot play. However, it's more of a qualification number. Basically, the higher the level, the more the bots will ease up and let you win. The lower the level, you'll notice you'll be focused more and there is one racer that just goes crazy fast when your camera can't see them anymore.

nothing presented in this video indicates that you shouldn't level up also there is a certain difference between diamond and mpr 32 1on1s against level 50 max crew tryhards
I did have some characters I gave up on cause I didn't have enough shards. Had to grind that box. My highest is Jessie. She's at level 41. I do think it's better to level up though. Those increases in stats do matter after awhile.
They don't matter when someone is at a higher star level. That's the thing I was stressing more or less about in the video. Basically, no reason to level up unless you already have star investment. If you're 2 star 25 and someone is 3 star 25, you're most likely going to lose. It's better not to waste the materials and save them for when you need them. The stat increase is not enough to justify putting levels into your characters. ESPECIALLY for the amount of materials needed. That's pretty much the main point of the video. Yes, levels add stats, but they are pretty negligible until like 5 star grand champion races. Which majority of players don't care about or don't plan on getting to. As a personal example, most of my diamonds are like 25 or below. That's because I know my star level will carry the race. That is not cool and not fair to anyone. Especially when the game makes you THINK it matters. 😔
Shouldnt level up? What the hell are you talking about? If you don't level up, you dont win. Because enemies are higher leveled than you. And you need multiple stars on your characters, otherwise youre not leveling up past lvl15.
Grand Champion should be easier as well. Ultimate champ is where everyone is 5 stars and it's honestly imo not worth the stress of low lobbies and repeated players.@@cjabrams8803
Can a level one racer win all them races too ultimate champion you either using buzz lightyear or defender racer because its impossible to get a hard on the level up because crossover play makes it impossible too win yes multiplayer is 100% rigged till they 100% fixed this problem in the game because how can you not level up still win races because on the multiplayer you going against people with higher ranks then you i don't maybe some people cheated the system in this game ik it's 100% rigged in multiplayer
Doesn't matter the class or character. More stars will most likely win out. To answer the Ultimate Champion question, no. Once everyone is on the same star level and same racer level, the better character will most likely win. However, you can most likely get to champion with being level one if you really want to. If not, just put in levels as you feel it, don't overdo it.

maybe it can be that the game was not that optimize to handle with low lv with higher stars, which player are supposed to lv up & RP lv in thier progress. I think sometimes Gameloft let you do your own skills and manage as you like, but it's depends on game/creations, sometimes they can get a bit issue with buff or Nerf

That's why I have way more fun on Regulated than Classification.
On Regulated, when you lose it's clear that the rival is either better or got luckier than you with item boxes, and that's totally fine (Jumba exploding you 3 times in a row for example).
I hope next season, Regulated gets some love, with a proper ladder, skill based matchmaking and better rewards.
A good way to avoid people spamming S tier chars on Regu is to make it completely RANDOM. So you want to climb? After a certain point, all racers will be randomized and there will be bans.
Let's say Belle, Jumba and Aladdin are banned. Only the other racers would be available in the randomizer pool.

What a cool video, you actually made me think a lot about this situation, i always lost for high level players but i never think about how they beat me, i always assume that was the level difference or luck, but what if the fact the racer have more stars gave them really a hidden better stats? That would change everything, everyone should see this video tho
Sadly, it's not a what if. It actually does give you a speed boost. It's a large amount as well.
I was listening in the background to the video so when my Speedstorm/PS Tag was mentioned, "Coolsonic099" I was jumpscared quite a bit. Interesting video though. I was not expecting stars to have such a strong impact. You've been a major source of Speedstorm tips for a bit now so thanks in general. @@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 I can't remember if this was a race I got stunned a lot in, but I have noticed times where I am just severely outspeeding everyone or they seem way faster than me even if I'm doing my best. The former sometimes made me unsure if everyone was just on Arbee Drive for some reason but if everyone was just lower stars that would explain a lot. I will probably be a lot more conscious to check that when matches seem too easy or impossibly rough.
That was jaw dropping not gonna lie. Though levels still matter a bit in terms of doing event races as the AI clearly cares only about your level and a single one in right "difficulty" range can decide between a cakewalk and sweating your bones off to win x.x

Interesting. I have 4 3 star racers and i started week 4 of alladin. The free stuff u get has gotten way better in that short time as well. I have 3 star alladin and he is really good. I got sooo lucky with the alladin coins

I wasn't aware you could star up characters without levelling them first, or was that changed in a recent patch? I play on the PS version of the game and I didn't see any way of just increasing the stars without levelling.

I think a lot of that might have to do with the fact that you are using a defender class for Buzz and Jumba. But still very impressive! I just finished getting all 37 of my characters to Diamond. I’ve found level 28 to be the sweet spot after getting to Emerald in terms of finding lobbies
I've done it with every class, you know me. I like to make sure I test as much as possible! Every class will win out most of the time if it's higher in stars.

This game it's funny but if you don't gonna put money into it, gonna be really frustrating to rank up. It's the only thing I don't like about it, cause the rankeds don't show real competition, just which wallet it's bigger.
But also I understand why it's like that. First, because it's from Disney and also the same company that did asphalt, and second because it's free-to-play. Personally, i prefer to pay for a game, that a free-to-play game with micro payments and that doesnt' have a good ranked system.

I always use the resources i have and sometimes i have nothing left to upgrade them. I feel lost at ranked, and cant grind higher amd often losing. I just wonder how to get more shards to star them up 🤔

This video is amazing! I have Meg at 4 stars, level 40, and it's SO hard to win ranked races :( I know I got the skill. So what's preventing me from getting Meg to reach Diamond? 🤔
Sometimes if you notice someone is racing at a different skill level, check their profile on the end screen. I've lost to players who didn't drift or take shortcuts, only to notice they were a star or two ahead.
Also, abilities that level when you star up make some racers just unbearable to deal with. (crew that levels their other abilities also make it more of a pain)
This design would make sense for like a frantic mode or something where we're really having fun and earning rewards.
But for more personally, ranked is where you try hard. I want to have it as evenly matched as possible.

I understand that star power is fondumental but how can a player raise a character at 4-5 stars? By paying ofc! I started playing a couple of weeks ago and my best racer is Genie at lv30 and 3 stars and idk where i can find more fragments of him except for the ranked, how can i possibly raise him to higher stars??
Yea, it's a little rough. Check the "mikermass" comment. I gave some tips on how to get shards if you're missing some.

Unless it's regulated, you have no chance unless you match their star power or sit just below.

Yup, exactly. If your star level is higher, you can get to that % with less work than someone else. I've ALSO tested that.
How to you get more stars?
You get more stars by buying shards or earning them. (not all shards can be earned)
Wait for events, roll loot boxes, do the racer boost event, or buy them in the shop with game currency or money.

I know universal boxes, daily boxes etc and also ranked levels like 8, 15 etc. Still seems more a resisted grind..is that the way or am I missing something? Keep crushing brother

1. Make sure you own the character (if you don't this won't work i believe).
2. Wait your shop out, eventually one of the characters you want shards for will pop up for coins.
3. Another way is to rank them up in multiplayer, but I'm sure you already know that.
4. Do every regulated, it's not a lot of shards, but it's something.
5. Get yourself to platinum on all racers, you don't need to place first and you can still rank up (you can even turn Arbee on and just passive rank up). Once it's on, watch a show, go do something, etc and rank up for basically afking. They will give you free cash, which is GREAT for when the character you don't own comes into the shop.
I personally never use the universal boxes, they cost too much and it takes away from the shards you could potentially buy from the rotating shop. You only get a limited amount of yellow coins (at this current time), and even more so if you can't finish out the entire season tour due to character or level constraints.
I'd only suggest using them if you don't already own the character. As most of the time, there is no way to get them without an event.

Hey i just subscribed and on my PS5 and switch versions I need help getting characters to 2 stars most if the characters I have are under 10 shards so to get them to base 20 they NEED to get to emerald but 16 on for each character just to get to MPR 18 for character shards is tough place 5 you lose 5 points you place 6 you lose 10 points you get place 7 you lose 15 points and you place 8 you lose 20 points. I fear my next after in platinum I might lose more points and just 1st-3rd are the only rankings to get right now in MPR16 as long as I stay in 1-4th I’m safe but as I put next rank up I might need to stay between 1st-3rd or even 1st-2nd
Yea, it's a little rough. That's one of the main reasons for the video.
Try doing your booster event, it should help. Check shop a lot too.
@@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 I do but some characters I have need MPR 18 for 2 stars and others need to emerald MPR 23 and I think some need diamond MPR 28. I check their MPR when I get them from 00 shards onwards but it’s nice they now have a racer to get shards every 20 hours give or take after that it’s 750 tokens to replay any racer again. I’m using real money just to buy racers I missed now the only old racer I need to unlock is hades but he’s not available right now and the limited events are still running multiplayer coins not tokens. Waiting for the tokens in the cups but right now my only option for tokens is a 100 dollar card for 13,500 but that’s not enough for anything that I need anymore I don’t buy the Star up packs for anyone I try to get the Star up naturally. For the old characters I hope for shards to star up characters from the universal box the frozen characters on switch I have all but Elsa on PS5 I have all but Anna. What happens when you level a character up to 5 stars? The limited event it all started with a mouse is the easiest way to 5 Star Mickey
If you level a character to 5 stars, they are really fast. They also have insane character ability and skill power. That's one of the reasons this game has some really low, lows. Whether you're high or low rank, the system makes people take a break from the game quite often.

Multiplayer on free to play games will often have pay to win mechanics to make people spend money. Otherwise, they just don't make enough money from selling only cosmetics. I hate to see it but, I think its necessary to keep the game from shutting down. Do high-level players not play regulated multiplayer? its supposed to be balanced
There are a lot of free-to-play games that make money with a balanced system. I think what happened is they built the system a certain way and because it's been there for so long, changing it drastically might cause complications.
The game was early access and you couldn't purchase shards or buy upgrades, you had to play and earn them. (although this still kind of means stars win out)
Founds purchased multiple prices for the game and if they wanted to go that route they could have. League of Legends, Overwatch, Mario Kart (even though it's paid), and Kart Riders are free. I think free isn't really an excuse for unbalanced ranked play.

Funny you mentioned that. I actually tested this.
I raced with a level 1, 1 star. I also did it with a level 1, 4 star. Ironically, the "speed" doesn't actually matter in bot play.
They are coded to sit with you and if you're under-leveled, one is coded to take off as SOON as you take your eyes off it. (it rounds a corner or anything like that where your screen can't see it).
So essencially, levels don't really have a merit in how bot matches are handled. It's just a..."qualification" as you will, for an easier match.
The higher the levels, the more the bots will ease up and let you win.

Yuuup, basically I just level one racer per collection. Then save my materials until I really need them. I know everyone can't really do that, but yea. You are forced to level if you're doing bot content.

1. LMAO, yes. There is a lot you have to "figure out", once you do though, the process becomes easier on knowning what you should and shouldn't do.

Honestly Im curious as too how much the stars actually matter. Last season i grinded my 1 star lv 15 steamboat pete to mpr 23 to get hin to 2 stars. I noticed in order to win or atleast gain points i would have to be in a race with racers lv 29 and bellow and i would have to be a better player then everone else. I feel like staring up is probably a much bigger deal on characters with a speed boosting ability such as aladin or Buzz. For example i bet a lv1 aladin or a lv1 buzz 4 stars would beat their lv 25 counter part if that lv 25 is 2 stars. But im woundering if a character who dosnt have a speed boosting ability would have as easy a chance such as a lv 25 2 star Jafar vs a lv1 4 star Jafar.
I've tested it with all classes and multiple characters. It'll remain the same, if someone is a star above you, you most likely will lose. However, if someone is a star above, but you're capped out on levels and they are not, you'll have more of a chance.
Stars give way more of a boost toward 5 stars. I do think the gap between 1 star and 2 isn't as major as 3/4/5. (that's just my personal experience and skill level, an average player most likely will not win regardless)
If a player is one star ahead AND they cap their level, the person a star below will most likely take the L no matter how great they drive.
I hope that clarifies my findings. I said in the video that I used other characters and classes, even specified a couple, but I know I didn't emphasize that point so a lot of people most likely could have missed it.

Yes, levels only matter in bot play. However, it's more of a qualification number. Basically, the higher the level, the more the bots will ease up and let you win.
The lower the level, you'll notice you'll be focused more and there is one racer that just goes crazy fast when your camera can't see them anymore.

I did have some characters I gave up on cause I didn't have enough shards. Had to grind that box. My highest is Jessie. She's at level 41.
I do think it's better to level up though. Those increases in stats do matter after awhile.
They don't matter when someone is at a higher star level. That's the thing I was stressing more or less about in the video.
Basically, no reason to level up unless you already have star investment. If you're 2 star 25 and someone is 3 star 25, you're most likely going to lose.
It's better not to waste the materials and save them for when you need them. The stat increase is not enough to justify putting levels into your characters. ESPECIALLY for the amount of materials needed.
That's pretty much the main point of the video. Yes, levels add stats, but they are pretty negligible until like 5 star grand champion races. Which majority of players don't care about or don't plan on getting to.
As a personal example, most of my diamonds are like 25 or below. That's because I know my star level will carry the race. That is not cool and not fair to anyone. Especially when the game makes you THINK it matters. 😔

Doesn't matter the class or character. More stars will most likely win out.
To answer the Ultimate Champion question, no. Once everyone is on the same star level and same racer level, the better character will most likely win.
However, you can most likely get to champion with being level one if you really want to. If not, just put in levels as you feel it, don't overdo it.

maybe it can be that the game was not that optimize to handle with low lv with higher stars, which player are supposed to lv up & RP lv in thier progress. I think sometimes Gameloft let you do your own skills and manage as you like, but it's depends on game/creations, sometimes they can get a bit issue with buff or Nerf
