Just as I noted on my vid on the CZ-V, it just doesn't sound like the CZ synths I had (1000 & 3000). This is like an idealized version of what PD would have been if it wasn't what it was. Arturia's is a nice sounding synth for sure. I was happy to sit there hearing you play it.

Great video, love this synth if only the original hardware CZ101 had 32 voices and all the features of the Arturia for the same price. 😁would have blown most everything else out the water, would definately buy it if Casio or someone else decided to make an updated version. Sadly never got a chance to play with an original CZ101 back the day, but grabbed a DX7 in 1990 for about $700 my first real synth loved and it hated too, until programmer software started to appear but PD is wicked.

Definitely an under appreciated instrument in its time.

at 0:47 you say that Yamaha's DX7 uses phase distortion but usually the core of DX7 it's called frequency modulation. are those 2 things that same concept?

That's an excellent question! Yamaha DX synths use what is called "FM synthesis", but in reality they are modulating the phase using the operators in the algorithm. This is similar to true FM, but not identical.

CatSynth TV alright so i guess CZ and DX7 are doing pretty much the same thing. a difference might be that CZ (from Arturia) allows you to draw your own wave, while DX7 has more flexibility since it has more operators right?
thank you very much for the answer, i really appreciate it 🙌🏻

I have the Casio physical version and they are SO FREAKIN NOISY. I don’t mind that, it’s apart of their charm. Half of me wishes it was loud and clear. But that’s how every new poly analog is rn. Loud and clear, I don’t wanna be like every other synth dude. I wanna be myself. My Casio is broken idk how else to type this comment up hahahah.

Interesting. I got to borrow and play around with a CZ 101 back in the day, but I didn't properly appreciate its synthesis engine at the time. I can't recall its noise level, but wouldn't be surprised if it was noisy, too.

nice, what dcw stands for ?

DCW = Digital Controlled Wave. It how the CZ 101 implements and presents phase modulation/distortion.
