Thunderstorms might be just noise, but that's the thing about fears; they sometimes don't make a lot of sense, we know that they're sound irrational, but that doesn't change the fact that they are real and scary to us. The best thing we can do for someone in this situation is listen to them and not treat their fear like something stupid or irrational, and let them know that you are taking them seriously. Find a way to make them feel comfortable, and to work through the situation, like maintaining eye contact or talking about something to take their mind of things, and remember that we're all afraid of something, no matter how irrational it may seem.
