    420% increase in prizepool in just ten years is absolutely off the charts.
    I honestly didn't know he was building himself up in his young years for baseball. I can't imagine what the sports world would look like if he had done baseball instead of golf. I'm sure Tiger would've been great, but in baseball you get judged really weirdly since your success depends so much on eight other people around you. In golf, if you're better than everybody else, you win. And boy did he win.

    • @aaronchan1088

      long before tiger's pga tour debut, the winner's share of the prize money was as low as 5-figures. now, some tournaments net winners as much as 2M-plus. e.g. 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational Bryson DeChambeau (1st) 2.7M Lee Westwood (2nd): 1.6M; 2021 PGA Championship: Phil Mickelson (1st): 2.16M Brooks Koepka & Luis Oosthuizen (T-2nd): 1.056M; 2018 TOUR Championship Tiger Woods (1st): 1.62M Billy Horschel (2nd): 972k; 2019 Masters Tiger Woods (1st): 2.07M Johnson, Schauffele, Koepka (T-2nd): 858,667k Tiger revolutionized the sport, and the prize money shot thru the roof since his debut in 1996. greats like the golden bear, the king, the great hawk made their impact on the game of golf, setting the stage for tiger, which made the biggest impact on the game... his feats like completing his first career grand slam at just 24 years old at the 2000 open at St Andrews (he finished with -19 while thomas bjorn and ernie els finished 8 shots back at -11),winning two-thirds of his 15 majors in his 20s, and the non-calendar grand slam may never be duplicated (only his son charle has any hope of achieving pga's first ever calendar grand-slam (winning all 4 majors in the same calendar year... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). if anyone can best tiger's accolades, it's his son charlie. whether or not we'll see a golfer reach the century mark in wins remains to be seen.

    It's a little thing by Tiger's standards, but all you need to do is look at the fact that Tiger not only built a public course nicer than most private country clubs could dream of, but he named it after Payne Stewart. He's human and he's made his fair share of mistakes. Don't EVER say he doesn't have class and respect. He's clearly tried everyday to represent the game of golf with honor and the historic aspect of it being a "gentleman's" game. He's truly a gentleman and has my utmost respect. He changed the game in all the RIGHT ways. Totally unrelated... but as pertains to my username, here's a pretty unknown fact about Tiger. In the early 2000's Tiger was invited to Australia to take part in a Celebrity Pro/Am dirt track auto race. He spanked everyone including the pro drivers. Kicked their butts all night long. It was an absolute thing of BEAUTY!

    With all respect to Jack Nicklaus, Tiger is without a question the greatest golfer of all time. Except Majors, Jack got Nothing against Tiger. Most records, most PGA wins, but more important is what he did for golf, he single handedly made Golf greater then any other Golfer before and after him, that includes equipment technology, Tournament purses and getting people into the sport.
    Not only did he beat the best during his prime, but he have won agains beasts like DJ, Rory, Bryson, Rose etc in the current era. Tiger had far harder competeters against him. no matter if he was injury free, or comming back after several surgeries, he beat them all.
    Michael Jordan does not have most rings, but still he is without a doubt the best basketball player to ever have lived, same goes with Tiger, Major 1st is the only thing he lacks, EVERYTHING ELSE he have dominated.
    So if you dont agree with this there are other reasons, such as the color of his skin, or from a personal view for example his personal scandal some years ago, but from a golf perspective, there is no doubt, TIGER IS THE GOAT!!!

    The first time seeing Tiger was when his dad was a guest on Johnny Carson. Johnny talked to Earl Woods about his career and life, but said what he will be remembered for was teaching his son Tiger the game of golf. Earl asked Johnny to draw circles on a white canvas stage background at all various heights the size of a softball/a couple size of tennis ball. They introduced Tiger, he came out, a 4 or 5 year old cute kid with his own golf clubs. They colored the golfballs in paints and told Tiger to hit the circles. I watched him hit each one bullseye, except one was half in- half out of the circle, my eyes bugged out knowing I was watching someone that will be a golf legend in the making. Years went by, one weekend flipping channels, I hesitated on golf tournament that happened to have a few amateurs, one a remarkable amateur. I seen him before, he looked kinda familiar. Then with some commentators about this amateur, it all fell in place, this is the kid from the Johnny Carson show 12+ years gone by. I was hooked, caught every moment my work would allow. Even got my mom to watch him when I had to work to keep me filled in. Remarkable athlete. Earl will be remembered for the game he taught his son.

    Loved Tiger - fav golfer (apart from Greg Norman because I’m an Aussie) by far. Went off him when he lost his mind and his marriage because he couldn’t control himself. But I think he’s learned many lessons from that train wreck.
    My grandfather used to say, “It takes a steady hand to hold a full cup.” You can apply that to all sorts of people in situations - but Tiger probably couldn’t handle the adulation - I think I’ve realised that probably no one could and that Tiger is human after all.
    I am now much more gracious toward Tiger and have loved to see him back and winning a couple of times. My hope is his body recovers enough to win once or twice more.

    13:28 - Justin Rose is an absolutely dominant player. He's also such a gentleman for giving Tiger so much credit.
    Rose is legit one of my favorite players on tour because of this attitude. Golf is a gentleman's game, and Rose is one of the last of that old guard.

    The reason he won so much was he was not only the longest off the tee, he was also the best iron player, had the best short game, and was the best putter. That mix will yield a lot of victories. Even today, he would still have won more than anyone else, but perhaps not with the same frequency as he did back in his prime!

    • @collinjamesguitar
      @collinjamesguitar 2 года назад +1

      Honestly, he’d be as dominant today as he was then. His irons and his short game/putting. Nobody then or now was/is even close.

      He was long but irratic off the tee. He was the best iron player of all time by far. He was the best at recoveries, Top 3 in short game and the best clutch putter.

      @@CSpad He really only became irratic off the tee after Hank Haney, where he paradoxically because more precise with his irons... In the Harmon days he had like a 70% Fairways hit... So, that right neer the top of the PGA tour!

    The greatness of Tiger Woods summarized in one tournament, given all he has been through, was the 2019 Masters Tournament. I have never seen anything like that and I still watch it from time to time. We know it might be too much to ask of him, given what happened to him additionally in 2021, but still many hope to see some of that 2019 Tiger in the future. In fact, already in 2022.

    Tiger has done more for golf than Arnold has ever done. Tiger is why professional golf is seeing such revenue, period! He brought a audience that thought it wasn’t for them but once they saw Tiger, it’s open the flood gates…. The stage was set for those that don’t look like Tiger, and those that didn’t want Tiger playing. He was told to go home, we don’t want you here, so many need to learn the history of this country before you say many have paved the way for Tiger, they paved it but not for ppl that look like Tiger. Tiger paved his own way! Tiger is the best golfer ever!

      Sam Snead also had 82 Tour wins and Nicklaus has 18 professional majors. It's really that simple.

      @dubp123 10 месяцев назад

      @@siobob1 neither one of those guys has both 82 wins and 15 majors. As you know, Slamming Sammy had 7/82 PGA wins. Jack had 18/73 PGA victories. In my opinion, Tigers health & personal issues are the only reason why he doesn’t have more majors & total victories. I would also argue that he has been his own worse enemy. But his record, combined with his impact on the sport from an interest and financial standpoint is unmatched.
