    At the point where you noted that your floor was essentially wood directly on slab, it was obvious that there would be zero difference. SVS themselves say that the isolation feet are most applicable for solid wood floors that are open underneath - i.e., a room where floor resonance is a problem. No matter what is between your sub and the floor, if the floor has zero to minimal resonance then the mechanical motion simply won't be transferred.
    Things aren't rattling because of the subs contact with the floor, they're rattling because of the sound waves traveling through the air... Likewise, the subwoofer's performance won't be affected because it isn't generating any resonance through the floor - you simply won't hear or measure a difference when you have a solid slab directly beneath the sub like you (and I) have :)

      @@COGuyStuff Yeah, I see that - glad they addressed it. I s'pose they should have sooner but a friend and I discussed the isolators when they came out and came to the conclusion that you'd have to have a fairly resonant floor for them to make a substantial improvement to the sound...

      @@shawnhamer7823 I've already brought it up 3 years ago at avsforum in the SVS owners thread, they didn't dare acknowledge it at the time. Then subwoofer 101 made a review about them and I brought it up to him, sure enough he mentioned it as well. SVS has always been kinda bullshitting people about the isolation feets.

    Svs isolation feet work well. I use them on my paradigm sub 15 along with my two sb4000 and my pb12/2. My paradigm sub 15 feet would constantly rattle loose and make rattling noises. It did also change how much stuff rattled in the room too. They are a pretty cheap upgrade really and can be used with any sub.

    • @slimjim1104
      @slimjim1104 4 года назад +2

      my room is in my basement on a slab.the main reason I got my first pair was due to my paradigm sub feet coming loose after loud listening. The Svs feet never come loose. I also like how much room they give between the floor and bottom of the sub.compared to standard feet. I dont think it changed the sound in any way but I did notice with my first pair of svs feet on my paradigm it changed at what volume things rattled in my basement and what rattled. I use them on all my subs after that. I just really like how beefy they are and the clearance they give.

    I just ordered SVS PB-1000 Pro sub with the feet. Saw a vid where SVS was talking about how they designed them. Guy said they were mainly for people who are on a wood floor above an open space, which is me so I bought them. Sure the squishy feet are good for protecting floors and easier to pick up sub and could also help in other situations, but some more then others.

    Which kind of isolation would you recommend based on your experience?

  • @elduderino1329
    @elduderino1329 4 года назад +1

    The microphone was in your listening position in ear height in the air. The furniture took over the vibration from the floor mostly not from the air. I know your floor is very solid but it still transfers some vibration from the subwoofer if it is not isolated. The rattling is a proof of it. The graph won't show the difference because the vibration in the air (the sound) was the same. The isolation helps to block the vibration going into the floor but it seems it doesn't do too much (it doesn't have to) with the sound. If you could check the vibration in the floor with and without the isolation you would see a much bigger difference. Bottom line is the claim from SVS that their isolation changes the sound is not true but the claim that it stops the rattling is true. Because the second part is true it effects your experience positively because you cancel one big annoyance. This gives you the illusion that the sound is better although the graph can't confirm it. This is good enough for me to buy(or build) isolation. In my case the difference will be bigger because my floor is not solid like yours.

    Perhaps I am waaaaaay late to this video party, but have you done any test with the mic, using same test scenario but on the other side of your glass doors or partitions? I would be curious to see what is passing though versus reflected. It appears that your testing is very thorough but I wasn't sure if measuring on the other side of the glass would have any impact using stock versus the new SVS rubber feet. I use these on my SVS subs as well and I too notice a huge reduction in vibrations to items hanging on the walls. I only have sealed subs in my room, so it was interesting to see these test on the various subs. Good job.

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  8 месяцев назад +1

      It depends on your floor construction, not the sub, if you need any kind of isolation. If it’s concrete slab you need nothing other than whatever you want for looks or ease of moving. Otherwise 6 svs feet would be great.

  • @meles3740

    Nicely done. I don't suppose you heard a difference? Any cork sniffing sonic comments? I spiked a seperate subwoofer amplifier into concrete and boy did that sound bad. The built in isobaric subwoofer liked cones a lot, but it was full range speaker so not the same. Your results have convinced me to leave standard feet on SVS.
    I'll add that in tweaking the positioning of my two less SVS subwoofers that with music (Atmos) one could hear subtle differences by moving the sub around in its chosen area and finding the best spot down to the MM (no measured difference on REW of course). REW got me in the area, but still worth a little time if you have the patience to find the best spot by ear.
    Seems like your are close to trying minidsp HD unit or maybe some the SVS parametric settings. Are you on LFE mode to bypass these?

      @@TheNLHAZE What is it you want exactly more bass, tighter bass? A large driver in a large box will generally give you more sensitivity and less distortion than a smaller driver in a smaller box so louder with less power. I prefer two very large subs (I use two 21" in stereo and two 24" in Home Theater) instead of say four smaller ones. I find the bass driver disappears and bass sounds larger and blends better with the left and right speaker.

    I only recently found your channel, great stuff! i use the SVS feet on a fully sealed custom sub. measurement wise there's very little difference between feet and spikes but i do see a significant reduction in window rattles that are proximate to the sub location.
    i wonder if the SVS feet would make any difference on your PSA subs? they have decent feet on them anyway and the sheer sound pressure those PSA's can produce is probably beyond what the SVS feet could remedy but if you still had a set it might be an interesting experiment to see if it could further silence room rattles?

    With that said, I'm using my small svs sb1000 subwoofer in a tiny room for a basic home theatre and it spews out too much deep bass especially in movie mode that you wall, floor and everything vibrating. Neighbours aren't impressed.
    I've placed underneath the subwoofer a quality soft gel pad (originally intended for in car seat back support) to help isolate the vibration. This trick hasn't made too much of any difference and if it does then it could be very little.
