  • I don't like hauling around a purse but my favorite leather jacket had no inside pockets. This is a TK tutorial on how I added a pocket.

RUclips needs more of this type of video. Modifying an existing jacket to add pockets. Very nice!

Thank you. I was looking for a way to sew a pocket in the lining of my jacket and I just found ones that were to sew a pocket on a piece of cloth. But I have an already existing jacket with lining. I was not about to take apart my jacket. Btw I bought a nice jacket/coat but didn't realize it had no pocket inside. So thank you for showing how to do this in other then just a practice cloth that can be sewn on.

Man, am I glad I found this! My brother wants me to add inside pockets to his vest, and I was fretting over how in the world to do that without taking the thing apart. THAT wasn't gonna happen! Now I can try this, and if it doesn't work I just won't give him his vest back. LOL

I was looking for a tutorial exactly like this, so thank you for posting it. Also, you made me realise I want a pocket on both sides, not just one for my phone.

Hiiii this is a very useful tutorial, thank you, I was also wondering about how structurally sound this is, like would I need to add some interfacing or some other type of support to make sure it doesn't droop on the outside? I'm doing it on a varsity type jacket. Thanks again!!!

Yes use interfacing for that type of jacket. I did have one pocket unravel a bit. Next time, I would go around again with the hand stitching. Otherwise the pockets are still working well. Happy sewing.

I got the concept from watching the video. It would have been nice if more verbal instructions of what you were doing. All in all I was able to figure it out.

Thanks so much for the tutorial! What stitch did you use to sew the pocket onto the jacket?

    • @teamklutzy5652

Welcome. I did a hidden long whip stitch. Bring the needle through the fabric , tuck in the knot, go over about an 1/8 of an inch behind the fabric, back up and repeat.
