"Well, the inspiration really started, with the 'Valley of the Dolls' and all the great jazz music of the 60s. One of my favorite artists is Nancy Wilson, and I just feel like she was so poised and, you know, beautiful. And her voice is just very peaceful to me when I'm stressed out, I kind of listen to her. So it's been a stressful year. So I was listening to a lot of Nancy Wilson. And so this one particular song called 'The Good Life' was really the biggest inspiration for the collection. I just wanted to give people something beautiful to look at, women, something beautiful to wear, something that would make them happy, with the colors, that I use, it's just an ode to women, as always."

"I'm Launching menswear this season. So, you know, that's a great surprise for everybody. I've been getting requests for years now, so we're going to see how that does. Trying to translate the aesthetic over to menswear."

"You know, with the, inspiration of the collection I didn't want to do, like, a traditional runway show. I wanted to do something more intimate. Well, intimate for me is still, you know, (laughs) kind of a lot of people. But I wanted the space to feel intimate and feel more like an actual room instead of just like a runway show."

"We've seen Sergio dress the former first lady, Michelle Obama. I think that was a seminal moment in his career. I've certainly worn him many times. Doctor Jill Biden, the current first lady, wears him. He knows how to make you feel like a boss. As a woman. And, I wear his suits very often on the show. My favorite suit is a white suit that I interviewed the current, Vice President in and so very special. And it's a suit that I hope to wear again soon."

STORYLINE:
Sergio Hudson said his latest New York Fashion Week collection was inspired by the 1967 film, "Valley of the Dolls" and jazz singer, Nancy Wilson.
Hudson presented bright colored, perfectly tailored dresses, gowns and suits Saturday at an intimate venue in lower Manhattan. Classic jazz music played as the models slowly walked_ pausing to let guests take in every detail of each look _ down the concrete runway.
For the first time, the designer also had menswear on the runway.
"I've been getting requests for years now, so we're going to see how that does."
Hudson's "power suits" have been worn by many powerful women including Vice President Kamala Harris, Dr. Jill Biden and Michelle Obama.
"He knows how to make you feel like a boss," explained TV personality Sunny Hostin.
New York Fashion Week runs through Sept. 11.
