I find it amazing at how much water clarity effects anglers more than it does the fish! Guys around here are so used to fishing gin clear waters that when we get even some light stain, those same anglers are stuck like statues. It's like they've suddenly completely forgotten how to fish. I've also seen the reverse to be true. Guys who are used to fishing muddy rivers or stained waters and they come to my area and they don't have a clue how to fish those waters.

A darker color for stained water like June bug or black an blue. A smoked shad or plumb color works great in clear water. Regardless of water clarity I generally use 3 casts per spot. Straight left then right into water I fish. Try using a reaction retrieve to get fish to react. Reel soft plastic fast for 3 seconds, pause 1 second an repeat the whole way back to starting point. Also, can do 1 reel turn fast 1 second pause repeat 1 more time then 1 reel turn slow or moderate speed. Also you can try 3 seconds reel turn moderate or slow pause 8 seconds 1 reel turn slow. Then mix it up next time you retrieve 2 seconds slow pause 2 seconds then 1 reel turn fast pause 1 second. Then repeat 2 to 3 more times. Then back to 3 seconds reel turn slow or moderate pause 4 seconds. Then 1 reel turn slow. Pause 1 second. Repeat 2 to 3 more times mixing retrieve an pause

I"m the exact opposite! I have a lot more confidence fishing stained water than clear water.

Thanks Tyler. I find wind is huge almost anytime. Dead calm can be as bad as it gets.
Lure speed in clear water, you don't want that bass to study your lure. Keeping the sun at your back makes the bass look into the sun. It's not always possible but can help.
I wish I had your topwater confidence.

Great video and good advices. Clear water is the most horrible thing to me when you are going to fish any fish specie . It is quite complicated to catch fish and many lures are useless very often.

Clear water can definitely be very difficult. It’s especially hard in a kayak when are not able to anchor. Great video!

Why can’t you anchor? I’ve been anchoring kayaks for like 20 years. These days I use spot lock.

@@stevenbillington1753 I do anchor from time to time but it tends to be a hassle. Did you just have 2 loose anchors? What did your system look like?

@@FullTimeFishing you can see my whole set up on my channel. I didn’t realize I was under my personal YT account. @penguinoutdoors is my channel. My set up these days is to just use the trolling motor spot lock. Prior to that I always used an anchor trolly with anchors or stake out poles. The anchor trolly allows you to adjust position without moving the anchor. YakAttack LeverLoc is the best one IMO.

A few things I can say about clear water are: cover water, speed it up, and try to get those reaction strikes.

I fish these deep and clear rock mines down here in Florida, and I always catch dinks. Definitely going to apply these tricks and tips for when I go back out. The biggest I’ve caught there is a five pounder and I’ve seen a couple of other big ones roaming around but I can never get them to eat. People always say that the top water baits like a walking bait or a whopper plopper catch the bigs. Thanks a ton brotha hopefully this will help me catch more quality fish out there and I can get better content for my channel. 👊💯

I certainly noticed when I'm river fishing especially.. I'd you cast I to the wind.... nothing...but if I turn and throw into it, seem to get more bites & fish.
If it goes completely calm, I throw a topwater, a shallow spook...or now the hybrid hunter ( mostly the Jr) ... usually something noisy cuz it's a river.
Seems to work ok...then again, I'm no "angler" just a guy trying to re-adapt to the sport. And fully addicted , so...maybe one day the next couple yrs I'll give a tournament a shot. But, I got alot of learning, and a whole lot more catching to get the confidence for that.

My lake for big fish is difficult because of the clarity. In the shallow parts the water is tea colored but deeper it’s like staring into a great void of black and blue. I can’t understand it at all
