The SG is by far my all time favorite guitar, it’s super comfortable, it’s light in weight, and it has that Gibson sound 🤙 I own three of them currently and love all three. None of mine are custom shop either, perhaps some day.
I have all the Custom shop Gibson "Satan's Guitars". They're prettier and much more expensive than the stock ones but still don't play or sound any better.
The SG is an amazingly great instrument. Truly an unsung hero. The V is my first love and the first Gibson I got new in 1976. It was stolen. I've only discovered how amazing the SG is in the past couple of years. I picked up a black standard from the demo shop and I absolutely love it! It has 490's in it! I've realized I'm a 50's -neck profile guy. I love the rounded necks. I do have a couple of 60's profile Pauls and they are really nice, but not my preference. The SG an awesome guitar! I also own 5 Pauls and a 67 V. The SG is right up there and even better.
I bought an sg epiphone as a first guitar and then switched to a les paul ... traded it in because i couldnt get used to the figured top ... and been an sg player ever since .
The SG is the guitar shape that I absolutely love to use, so this video is fantastic for me 🤩 they are all beautiful guitars with an incredible sound, after having bought several Epiphone SGs which also sound very good in some models, I bought a standard black Gibson SG like the one you tried in the video. What to say ? Overall, a wonderful guitar and valuable in every part, the electronics are truly a feather in the cap, I didn't think so. Practically now I can't sleep away from her at a distance of less than 5 metres, think a few days ago I had to do some small maintenance on her and I told my trusted luthier to do it within 24 hours otherwise I would have gone crazy 😂😂😂
I recently purchased the EPIPHONE SG Classic Worn Cherry with P 90s, I really didn't know what to expect??? But to my amazement, the sound , feel and build has been above and beyond all expectations, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. And it won't be my last SG , your reaction s and reviews are always spot on , you have great communication skills which many on you tube lack. On a personal preference, I Love the Full Bat Wing pick guard.
I like this dudes playing and style. He knows what he’s doing but makes it look very natural and with a cool vibe And I am absolutely f€&kin Lovin that Mustard/Yellow Finish 🙌🤘
I am really fighting the temptation to buy one. They are amazing. At $1,599, however, they are like double what they were a decade ago and I can’t stomach that. If they were $1,200 I would have one now. I bought my 2017 SG Standard new for like $1,200 and that wasn’t that long ago.
@@jcwoodstl same here, guitar and instrument prices in general are going crazy across the board. I'm debating buying the tv yellow standard, but if they made one with p90s or a tv yellow special I would hop on it asap.
I’ve wanted to get an SG for quite some time now and I’m actually glad I waited . I truly love the look , sound and feel of the ‘61 in Cardinal Red Burst . Not that the Pelham Blue Burst doesn’t call out to me as well but , between the two , I like the red better . Which is odd as I’ve never really been a fan of red anything . Some things just look good in red and an SG is one of those things . Maybe later on I can add the blue one . This will be my first Gibson and I’m hoping all the QC issues have been dealt with . Take care everyone , rock on !
I know that few people use them this way, (check out Phil Miller and Phil Lee for two examples, particularly with Hatfield & The North and Gilgamesh) but the SG, like the Les Paul, has GLORIOUS clean tones. Thank you for demonstrating that here.
I own several vintage SGs but the modern ones are great guitars with a lot of potential. I really like the version with the lyre maestro vibrola. First thing I would do is rip out the electronics and put some nice Pots by Vintage Inspired Pickups in it. They are hard to get at the moment but they have ratings about 550k, so they will give you a lot more clarity. Modern Gibsons tend to be really fat and they tend to miss the transparency and the single coilish vibe of the vintage examples. So get some nice low output pickups without wax. Check out the Mojotone 59 Clone in the Low Output version, which are really affordable. I have a set of Mid60s-PatentNumber Pickups and the Mojotones come pretty close. 50s wiring is necessary. A bass cut with a little trim pot is a great addition for the neck pickup, especially on a SG.
Hi! I'm Paolo from Italy... I love you Gibson Sg! And with these colors you're tempting me adding some new guitars to my little collection... thanks for existing!
The SG is such a great guitar! The sounds, the feel, the ergonomics, the look, the weight… it has nothing to envy from other models, it has it all. Rock, blues, metal, jazz… there is nothing you can't play on an SG. I own two of these beauties. A 2002 Standard HC and a 2023 61 Standard VC. Quite different guitars actually: body shapes, necks, neck joints, humbuckers, electronics […] are different. Each has a unique voice, that's for sure. Both sound amazing!
Although I'd seen/heard a few SG players (Santana et al.), it was Rod Price of Foghat that inspired me to own a Red SG. Man, that SG looked so cool on him - and the tone! I've owned a couple in the past, and currently own a Standard in Heritage Cherry. I used to think the half pickguard, like on the '61s, was cooler. Between the five I played in the store; two were '61 reissues. I'm glad I settled on the Standard with the full pickguard. Thanks for the content.
QUESTION: Is this Rounded profile the same as you'd see on the Tribute series? I'm very excited to get that Pelham Blue Burst!! Been waiting FOREVER for a guitar like this :D
What immediately turned me of to the modern SG Standard with 490 pickups was seeing it had a circuit board in the control cavity instead of wiring for the pots and capacitors. No Way!
Whenever I play SGs with the “slim taper” neck I find they feel different than Les Paul’s with the same neck shape - are they different specs, or is it more a perception thing because the guitars sit better due to the SG being more “forward” with its bridge position?
SG is my favorite body shape by miles, no other body shape comes close. I adore the neck of my SG modern which is the best playing neck I've ever touched, but prefer the body thickness on my '61 reissue since the moderns are a bit thicker. I would kill for AAA quilted or flame bodies. I'm a bit tired of cherry, ebony and the other regular stand by SG colors.
A flying V and Explorer without the pick gaurd wooooo, looks so clean, SGs are just beautiful, sparkling burgundy is got a Christmas vibe! Everyone should have an SG, I would like the one with a vibrola, Adrian Smith from Maiden plays an SG, my favorite player. In my opinion, you win and cant go wrong with Gibson, killer tone machines.
If SG’s feel weird when you pick them up just give them a bit. You get used to it and come to realize that they are truly the best guitars. I still love my Les Paul/PRS/Tele/Strat/etc but the SG is my favorite.
Dinesh and Gibson, thank you for these gear guide series! Much appreciated and love learning about the differences between models! Funny was watching the Andertons factory walk through and saw the silver mist color on the line and I was like "hold the phones", where do you get that color! Now I know, LOL!!!!
I just got a silver mist with a really dark rosewood board. You'd think it was ebony. Not just dark, really smooth too. There's nothing worse than a cheap, dry looking, light rosewood. Unfortunately Gibson has many of those so I never blind buy one. The silverburst batwing version at Guitar Center has an ebony fretboard if you like the regular SG standard.
You're correct. The Standard comes with PCB. The 61 and special have orange drop caps. At least, according to the Gibson website. I was thinking the same as you so I wanted to go check.
Love this post! Stellar playing and commentary make it a joy to watch and LISTEN to, no doubt many more views in my future! Like learning more about an old friend...awesome.
we know its coming. the custom colour for SG.All colour are epic, hard to pick one. sometimes, i wonder if LP have LITE why dont SG have a Thick version.
SG Supreme is best version. That and a standard are best of both worlds. Not sold on the 24 fret modern neck diver. Tone better on supreme due to AAA maple cap and better pickups.
So it has TEN tones to go through total? Man this thing loaded to the gills. I have my eye on a 61SG Standard. It does classic rock better than most guitars out there.
Discontinuing the SG Tribute was a stupid mistake. Can't believe you stopped making the best SG in the lineup but then it was the best price. The new colours are alright, I mean it's better than black and red but they don't make me go "Yes I need that!“. Pelham blue not in a burst would be amazing. Maybe a light pink, a nice jade green etc. Gibson, doing what the fans don't want again.

You sound like a distortion pedal, good demo of whatever distortion pedal you were using
If you offer V's and Explorers in these finishes I bet you'd sell a buttload of them.... especially if you offer them with and without pickguards.
Honestly just more colors other than black and white would be a great start it's a shame
Pelham blue burst on an explorer 🥵
nope.

Interesting guide: after many years of modern superstrats, i'm going to switch to SG: the modern. It's amazing

Because Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Ac/DC will alwaybs be > > > Gnr / Slash and the likes.....😉🤟
It also looks super amazing
I love my 61 SG with the maestro! I’ve wanted one since I was 12. Got it when I was 30. Really digging that TV Yellow SG!
TV yellow seems to be the winner here!

I got lucky and found a Guitar Center exclusive from 2008 in Blue Mist with an ebony board and rounded neck profile. It's a keeper.

I like this guy - super personable and I dig his playing. Great job by the Gibson team who produced this and the other 2024 buyers guide series.
Thank you so much! These are the wholesome comments we love to see :)
The SG is my favorite Gibson, and the Special my favorite SG, two P90 in an SG is a magic tone, one of the best.

I went with the SG 61 Maestro. Closest I could get to the original 60s models.

I will definitely buy one when they make a left handed one in those new colors
Nice they’ve introduced some other colours but a darker cherry would’ve been nice

You're correct. The Standard comes with PCB. The 61 and special have orange drop caps. At least, according to the Gibson website. I was thinking the same as you so I wanted to go check.
I’ve always wondered how well those tremolo arms would stay in tune?
Amazing guitar playing 👏🏻
The Standard is amazing. But it could have an ebony fingerboard. Then it would be absolutely perfect.
Ebony fretboards should be reserved for custom if you ask me.
Interesting that you’re reviewing it on a Boogie amp. I own a Boogie mark IV and am seriously considering a 61 SG of one type or another.
Will the translucent teal be available for left-handed?
Hi ! All stock can be seen at Gibson.com including lefties

Please 🙏🏼 do this Custom Colors on es 335s too! I want a white 335 since decades 😩
I see that Sideways Vibro hanging in the background...it should have been included in this video!
The Choice isn‘t easy😀
All fine and well, but when will we see the re-release of the Victory series?
Can we get some custom color
SG Specials? Would love to see Disco Static ,Translucent Teal and Metallic Sunset as options! 😈
I dont like the any of the historic correct vibrato systems , but man do they look cool .
So, the $1799 SG Standard doesn't even get a Hard Case?
BOOOOOOO!!!...that's some serious bs on Gibsons part
There's just something special about solid mahogany! The SG is a beast! Just ask Angus! & Dinesh! 😂👍🎸

we know its coming. the custom colour for SG.All colour are epic, hard to pick one. sometimes, i wonder if LP have LITE why dont SG have a Thick version.
The Gibson demo shop had a wild silver sparkle SG & that color just about blew my mind!
Wasn't the Gibson Diablo slightly thicker? Wonder if they will ever release a Phil X SG, as he likes a slightly thicker SG body.
61 Standard in classic white, please!
I was borne in 61
Like the new green one
Teal.....looks like Green to me 💪🏻😍
Can we get the 80s explorer in classic white please?
Shouldn’t have gotten ride of the ‘budget’ Tribute SGs as they were basically perfect….and I was going to buy one had you’d made them this year. 🙃
SG Supreme is best version. That and a standard are best of both worlds. Not sold on the 24 fret modern neck diver. Tone better on supreme due to AAA maple cap and better pickups.
Great demo. Great playing and explaining the guitars! SG is my favorite.
Rock on!
I just got 61 sg. Damn woulda got that blue fade for sure if i knew it was gonna come out! Haha
Need a 61 in black!
So it has TEN tones to go through total? Man this thing loaded to the gills. I have my eye on a 61SG Standard. It does classic rock better than most guitars out there.
Interesting that on the SG modern you mention P90 tones with push pull feature. Avoid mentioning strat tones at all costs. lol
After two Gibsons showing up at my house with horrible QC, the best SG for me was the Guild Polara.
Hoping theres a tv yellow epiphone version in 2024 🙏
I'll ask the team :)
No more SG Junior?
I wish the 61 models were available left handed
The vibrolas are beautiful, but the guitars that have them can't stay in tune long enough to get through a bar.
How totally different from anything Gibson have been milking for the last 70 years! Wow! Creative, innovative, new… really worth thousands a piece!

The SG is the greatest electric guitar ever produced.
Still waiting on a 61 Maestro Vibrola in a different colorway

Damn you Gibson! Now I will have to buy another guitar I do not need! TV yellow sg with half bat wing pick guard. I HAVE to have it
i dont know if i would say the sg is the underdog, who doesnt like an sg
You fired the other guy? The problem isn’t the guy reading the script it’s the guys writing it clearly
If you use a leather strap the fabled neck dive magically disappears. Go figure.
The SG needs to come with Floyd Rose.
An FRX, they look so cool, but with a non locking nut and locking tuners.
I didn't find this very helpful. No information on the prices?
Hi there! Check description for links with current pricing :)
Did he say PEL HAM Blue? lol
That amp sounds terrible. "Let's hear a bit more"... no, let's hear them through and Marshall and Fender style circuits please.
Who chose these colors? So disappointing. Those burst just look cheap. Should’ve just gone for straight up Pelham blue…
