WotW was shot in high-ISO 35mm to achieve a grittier look, so all that grain is totally there by design. Same with any blowouts in exposure, that's the highISO doing its thing. Some parts are so gritty it looks like 16mm, and I love it. Fits the feel of the film so well. I honestly think it deserves a 10 in the visual department, this exactly how it's supposed to look.
The LFE was better on the Blu-ray with more punch that dug deeper. The DTS on the DVD was even deeper than the Blu-ray. They raised the arms on the Atmos mix but then cut the legs out from under it. Disappointed.
Not sure if you’ve trialed this but do you think it’s worth an upgrade going from 7.1 to 7.1.4 with Atmos Enabled speakers where if you have the perfect ceiling for it or is it really just hype? Everyone I hear talk say it’s not as good as ceiling down firing speakers
Just tested my copy and it really sucks hard. Those moments where the solid kick from the subwoofer used to put you on your toes and transmitted the restless feeling during the movie is all gone! I have to strongly disagree regarding the Audio review value, 9 (!?) I would give it a 6 or 7 at best! The first thunder strike at the beginning of the movie is soulless and the rise of the machine from the ground is also dull in comparison to the FHD audio track. LFE track is a must-have and has a far greater engagement, connection and importance within this type of movies. Height channels are OK but they cannot fill the gap the almost absent LFE channel has. I remember when I started my DIY system and made a 5.0 speaker system, when I added my 15" sub my system had a dynamic like never before, same with the 7.1 and Atmos speakers. But surrounds and heights will never really shake your core as a sub will. And this movie shook my room! Now it doesn't... Imo I strongly disagree with your opinion. It appears as if peoples protested about their subs blowing up and the studio dimmed the LFE channel to satisfy with the complaints.

It's actually quite the opposite. Most movies lack deep bass, but has lots of bass centered around the 30-50hz region. However, you're right in the mixes you mention. Those movies have great sound design all around, even when JK3 has the least bass of the trilogy.
I don't get all the people saying the bass is low. I just watched this the other day and the bass was nuts, particularly in the 1st scene when the ship emerges and kills people. Hell, even the lightning strikes before that sounded insane.
I just played War of Worlds the bluray(DTS.HD-MA) and i have a question to anyone that might know. During the thunder sequence the bass is NOT earth shattering and i have way too much activity from my surrounds. I have a Klipsch R12sw that does not go ultra low, i think down to 25HZ. All this talk about neutered bass has me excited and a bit sad at the same time.
