- For quantitative research, it's very important to understand the classification of variables and measurement scales. In this video, I have explained:
(1). difference between Categorical and Continuous Variables
(2). Four types of measurement scales - Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, and Ratio
Amjad, thanks. You brought up an important issues around the number zero. It enabled me to appreciate descriptive statistics. Just because one gets "zero" in their grades. The zero (value) does not take away the fact that the student does not have a grade (property of a feature).
You use simple english that everyone can understand easily. Very Informative.
Thank you
very excellent and detail explanation
effective presentation. Keep it up and explain all the fundamentals of research methodology.
Happy to know you liked it. You are welcome. Yes I will keep uploading more useful videos. Keep watching.
Great presentation, worth of learning.

Amazing explanation i really liked your teaching you explained very deeply and easy to understand, same topics i tried with IITM teaching videos not even a single thing I understand, after seeing your video only I'm able to understand the scales of measurement
Thank you for the detailed comment and your very good feedback. Really appreciate it

(specifically for Plant Science).
2. Identify each of the following data sets as either a population or a sample:
a. The grade point averages (GPAs) of all students at a college.
b. The GPAs of a randomly selected group of students on a college campus.
c. The gender of every second customer who enters a movie theater.
d. The lengths of Atlantic croakers caught on a fishing trip to the beach.
3. A researcher wishes to estimate the average amount spent per person by visitors to a
theme park. He takes a random sample of 30 visitors and obtains an average of 280
birr per person
a. What is the population of interest?
b. What is the parameter of interest?
c. Based on this sample, do we know the average amount spent per person by
visitors to the park? Explain fully.
4. If you have an open-end continuous series, which measures of central tendency do
you recommend representing this series? Why?
5. If we have frequency distribution which is almost, but not quite, symmetrical and
whose mean and mode are 27 and 29 respectively, what will be the appropriate value
of the median?
6. Scores on a final exam taken by 150 students have a symmetric distribution with
mean 72 and standard deviation 9. What is the median score on the exam?
7. The average score of a special test of knowledge of wood refinishing has a mean of
53 and standard deviation of 6. Find the range of values in which at least 75% the
scores will lie.
8. In a moderately asymmetrical distribution, the mode minus the mean is 2.4 the
coefficient of variation and skewness are 20% and -0.5 respectively.
i.
Is the distribution positively or negatively skewed? Why?
ii.
Find
a) The mode
b) the median

Sir, if we are looking at the profit figures of multiple firms will it be internal based or ratio based scale?
Depending on how you measure it. Normally it should fall under ratio
Thanks

nominal and ordinal go under categorical, but what about ratio and interval? I'm confused about this part. can you please explain
Nominal and ordinal are categorial variables (mainly non-parametric) whereas interval and ratio are continuous variables (parametric).
@Stat Lessons for Free yes numerical either discrete or continuous
Spr sir
