This genuinely makes me cry. It's the one tune every man loves. And it sounds like a Broadway showstopper. Just an amazing talent. Thank you for your service, sir.
Just...bloody....superb......The quality of this music speaks for itself when a cheer can go up from a crowd like that for a forty year old composition that was originally classed as 'library music'. Pure class.
There's something so magical about a guy who composed and recorded the great tv themes of our lives from a studio improvising a solo on stage decades later
Today I looked up who Alan Hawkshaw is. I was thrilled! Amazing what he did! But then also today I learnt of his death. To be elevated and devastated within a minute is so cruel.
Mansfield is a legend - he also composed Wimbledon, The Athletics theme (BBC) and The Big Match (ITV), as well as many other 60's/70's instrumental classics.
Speaking as an incurable geek, this is without doubt one of the most wonderful things I have ever witnessed in my entire life :) AND Michael McDonald on bass sax too :)
It's actually a baritone sax - the bend of the bass sax protrudes higher above the mouthpiece, and its bell is fatter. The saxophonist does resemble Michael McDonald, I agree!
I’m playing this (I’m English) in my cafe in Sydney Australia which is on a Construction site, and there’s a fair few English here, and they’ve all just been dancing around to this as I played it!! So funny. I might make it a regular thing!
All British people can remember the elation or heartbreak this tune did bring at 17:10 every Saturday evening depending on whether your team had won or lost...🤔
Alan Hawkshaw & Brian Bennett: thanks for making all that fantastic music on the label "Bruton Music" thanks for "beautify" the world, I love drinking coffee at night and listen to your music, I hope you are well! I'm excited to see them still playing, eternally through! greetings from Argentina.
Alan Hawkshaw was a legend! A friend of mine knew him and said he was a really nice chap. I didn’t get the chance to meet him, but I played a gig in Wokingham with a friend back in 2008 and Keith Mansfield was in attendance and he gave us a nice compliment, which made my day.
Still sport on a Saturday afternoon on the BBC, and often on ITV. But not as we knew it. BBC need to get the horse racing and golf back for any hope of a return to the good old days. They still have the rights to athletics, tennis, Wimbledon, rugby internationals and a number of other minority sports they used to show on Grandstand but without the horse racing and golf we are still stuck with too much Bargain Hunt. Bargain Hunt doesn't sit right on BBC1 on a Saturday afternoon. Neither does what ITV shows on Sarurday afternoons of mass non sporting content and that has been going on for 35 years since they axed World of Sport.
I just stood in my kitchen at home after too many glasses of wine and pretended I was the conductor, waving my arms about , conducting this piece... and my neighbour walked by the window. Now I look totally crazy to my neighbour. Damn! Lol
God, would have loved to have been there - must have been an awesome night. Pity we can't see the legendary Brian Bennett in the vid but I'm not complaining honestly - so grateful that you recorded the gig at all.
Just a piece of music that will live forever. Love it! Takes me back to Saturday afternoons in the summer knowing all kids TV has finished for the day and is time to go out and have some fun....! Without playing the XBOX etc......! Real life real music! RESPECT DUE for this creation!
I heard this song for the first time playing FIFA Manager 2007 or 08 maybe just a masterpiece and live version is even better. Thank you sor Alan. I hope you are jamming in heavens...
Hard pressed to find two harder working musicians back in the 60's. KPM 1000 series contains the best library music ever. It helped etch a massive form in the british 60's TV music style. Not forgetting Brian Bennett, Syd Dale, John Cameron, Duncan Lamont, Johnny Pearson, Dave Lindup & Johnny Hawksworth. Sensational.
Somehow I ended up back here, but that is no surprise - sad to hear of the passing of Alan - I would have crawled across broken glass to have been there on that evening. Amazing rendition, I so wish I was there. Hope Keith is OK... Rather interesting to note that the recent repeats of Top Of The Pops on BBC4 from 1992 featured the track "It's A FIne Day" by Opus III - fronted by Kirsty, daughter of Alan, being incredibly beautiful and unique. Hope she's doing OK too.
My word what a piece of music. Just as said by "staglerstyle" this is a piece of music that will live in my heart for a very very long time. Just takes me back to Saturday afternoon in the summer months thinking its time to go out after all the kids stuff on TV. JUST RESPECT DUE for this creation.......!
rest in peace Mr. Hawkshaw 🕯
This genuinely makes me cry. It's the one tune every man loves. And it sounds like a Broadway showstopper. Just an amazing talent. Thank you for your service, sir.
i know what you mean, it brings a tear to my eye
Every time I hear it.....including right now ❤
@@jamiew1664 Doesnt it just 🥲.

You’re totally right mate. Great comment.
RIP Alan.
Thank you for the music.
Beautiful tribute there from Randy McKnob
You soundtracked my whole childhood, Alan Harkshaw. Rest In Peace

RIP Mr Alan Hawkshaw :(
Alan, thanks for the memories. R.I.P.
this was one of the legendary nights at the Jazz Cafe.
The next "new blood" for MedSchool ^^
@Ulleskelf
Some of us are old enough to remember the teleprinter,,,
Mansfield is a legend - he also composed Wimbledon, The Athletics theme (BBC) and The Big Match (ITV), as well as many other 60's/70's instrumental classics.
I think he also composed the music that Granada TV used to use for closedowns at night.
Speaking as an incurable geek, this is without doubt one of the most wonderful things I have ever witnessed in my entire life :) AND Michael McDonald on bass sax too :)

Excellent Hammond solo from Alan!
I begged my music teacher at high school to have the Big Band play this! Sounds great, I love this tune
this music gives me Goosebumps what a great theme tune.
Rest in peace Alan, thank you for so many, many great tunes.
Just fantastic to see this performed live.
I always come back here for a little joy when I need it.

classic theme - now sadly departed from our tv..
All British people can remember the elation or heartbreak this tune did bring at 17:10 every Saturday evening depending on whether your team had won or lost...🤔
And just hope the score versus your side was written out in LETTERS - dear oh dear. . . .
football isn't a sport
And the rest of us enjoy the music for what it is and thank our lucky stars we aren't British.
RIP Mr. Hawkshaw. Thank you for the memories!
R.I.P. Alan Hawkshaw.
I LOVED this theme tune every Saturday.... *sigh*... the memories!
Wish I'd been there that night!
Anthems to our lives and loves that's music and songs
What a legendary piece of music and played live so brilliantly !!
Alan Hawkshaw RIP. Gutted to learn of his death today.
Absolutely fantastic! One of, if not THE best theme tunes ever written for television.
RIP Grandstand!
RIP Alan Hawkshaw
Alan is THE library musician/composer, such great Hammond playing, his family must be very proud of him.
Cheers Alan, wonderful Music which will live on!
Rest In Peace Alan.
My dads fav tune ever reminds him of his childhood.. amazing
These guys are legends, and tv themes would be much poorer without their talents (like they are today I guess).
Cool as a cucumber. Brilliant music

I think Alan was mainly on KPM, but yes Brian did tons of stuff on Bruton.

Aw man, I wish i was there. The crowd go nuts, i'm clapping along in my living room :)
Brilliant, so full of joy and part of British heritage! Love it!!!
Love this clip. Always makes people smile and watching his concentration and love of playing is just brilliant 👌

The crowd loved that! Hearing this from the TV meant that you weren't at work and it was Saturday. Bliss...
Just bloody wonderful.
With Brian Bennett on Drums fabulous
need to bring it back. Sadly missed

I spend a lot of my downtime listening to tracks on RUclips by Hawkshaw, Bennett, Mansfield et al. I would have loved to have been there.

Banging tune 👌🏻
Love the way this music builds and releases tension.
Legend. My school band launched into this at a jazz festival one time, the best reception we ever got for any piece ever!
Legendary 💯
Absolutely brilliant. I love it :)
Also used in NFL Football Highlight Films here in the United States. Excellent Piece by Keith Mansfield.!
Awesome lads. The stuff of legend
Outstanding
Thats insanely good!!!
Wow, I'd love it if a band i went to watch suddenly broke out into one of my fave tv themes, spot on!...
You've expressed it much better than I ever could have. It's lovely to find it is "normal" music.
Wow, what a show, Keith Manshaw and James Clarke, wish I could of been there! just needed Alan Hawkshaw!
haha that's fantastic! I was at this gig and hadn't thought about it for years! nice one for uploading :D
