The lake I said I would have to look up, turns out to be Dorney Lake. It is a purpose built rowing lake in Buckinghamshire about 3km in length just west of Windsor. The lake was privately funded by Eton College who spent about £17m developing it. Thanks for watching.
Hi Tim, Great trip and brilliant view of the landing back at base . I live approx 1500 Metres from the finish line (Southern end) of the lake on the Windsor side. To drive there it's probably about 5 Miles?. During the Olympic torch relay my son Coxed the crew carrying the torch down the lake.
Now that’s one of the reasons it’s great to fly! Saving 8 hours in the car! The RV has a lovely paint job. I’ve never visited Popham but flown over many times. Looks better than I expected!
It has an interesting paint scheme. The dark colour is not always good for heating up the fuel tanks! Popham is a good place to visit. An interesting approach around the garage for the other runway!
Blimey, could have used John's skills when I had many problems with my '76 Midget a few years back. Only flew into Popham once - landing on rwy 26 with the dogleg approach to avoid the service station. Certainly captured my attention, but what a great place. Nice video
That looked a very pleasant flight Tim.. via some very busy airspace. I fly Tatenhill to Lydd and Maypole and it's always an interesting 'corner' to negotiate, always busy! Some lovely filming 👌👍
Thank you very much for that Kevin. It is never easy filming from the back of the RV but I wanted to try and record the trip as it was such a nice day and I thought it might be a bit different. Are they flights you do regularly?
@@JodelFlyer I came back to flying last year Tim, after a 10-year enforced break. I've just reached the standard where I'm happy to make the journey on my own from Tatenhil, where I have a share in a Rockwell Commander. My kids and grandkids live near Canterbury, so it's great to make the trip, but hard work negotiating around that busy area and remaining under the London airspace. I've only managed one trip to each to date, but looking forward a lot more in the future!
Kevin Chilton - I am glad you are back in the air again. The Rockwell Commander is a very fancy machine, although I have only seen them from outside. Hope we can all get some more flying in before winter sets in (and we both get to fly to see our grandchildren! 🙂 )
Thank you very much for watching and the comment. both much appreciated. Not that easy to get good footage with a hand held GoPro but it did capture the day! :)
It certainly does beat driving . I enjoyed seeing Popham again , it’s been many years since I was last there , and what a beautiful day for it too . We’ve had wind gusts up to 54Kts at Sydney Airport this afternoon , and 67Kts at my local field , a lot of white knuckles from the heavy jet pilots I guess . Thanks for posting Tim .
Great to see you both on the day, in happier circumstances than last time. Keep the videos coming, the champ has an engine problem so I am going to need some videos from you lads to keep me smiling ! Dave
Sorry I’m a bit behind with your videos but I can’t wait to do some catching up this weekend, starting with this one! Love that rv. And popham does look great! Yes you see that rowing lake from train heading to London! You look right down it’s length, quite impressive! Lovely bit of flying and weather you had. All the best
Did you know that there is a Jodel based at Popham? It is a DR105 Ambassadeur, registration G-AXLS. My friend owns a share in it and I have flown with him from Popham a couple of times.
Thanks for watching and the comment David. Yes, I know that Jodel well. John's son Matt has a share in it as well. ruclips.net/video/oYK6SX1_rFk/видео.html is one of the trips he made in it to Nayland.

Gordan Milne - Thats very interesting. Small world! 🙂 I just saw it glinting in the sunshine and pointed it out to John. I had to look it up.
The perfect day out! Several of my favourite aeroplanes and cars.
Glad you enjoyed the content. 👍

It looked like a nice day to pop to Popham. It is times like that when an aeroplane shows itself to be a great mode of transport.
Nice trip and very true Robert. That road trip can be nightmare!.

I am still learning to fly and Popham will be one of the destination airfields for the XC flights so it was nice to see it.
I am sure you will enjoy the flight there. A very nice airfield.

It was a nice trip David in glorious weather. Wind forecast here today is 50mph + Take care and stay safe
That RV4 looks like fun to fly! Nice vid, Tim!
Thanks for watching Jolmer and the comment. The RV is a fun aircraft and very fast!
@@JodelFlyer What is the speed range of the RV?
ForFunFlyer - it has a very wide speed envelope between about 55mph to over 200mph
@@JodelFlyer That's insane?! 😀👍🏻

What is wrong with the Champ's engine Dave? We will do our best to keep you smiling..
Possibly crank bearings or oil pump on way out, investigating further.
The Doc - Good luck with the investigation!

@@JodelFlyer I thought that you would probably know the plane. Thanks for the link - it is good to see the air to air views.
Hello Tim curious to know why you had a mask on but John did not ?
I wore the mask as I was not using the radio and we were having static/squelch issues so he took it off.
Nice climb rate out of nayland. so what is the total fuel the RV4 can carry? - thanks for sharing, have a great weekend
Thank you Tim. I think the two wing tanks carry a total of about 130 litres. Maybe John will confirm this?
Hi Tim. What was your route to Popham after Elstree.
South of Wycombe, west of White Waltham and around Odiham all under the TMA
Jodel Flyer I could have driven out & given you a wave as you passed north of Denham.
please let your vidios com in the futere
I will try to keep the weekly content coming despite lockdown here!
