He actually was one of the first with an NP upgrade. Along with Waver, he was one that got completely reworked without any quest and was just a general patch. Originally, the poison damage was additive to the general NP damage (and inflicted poison otherwise). After the update the poison damage is multiplicative and the poison debuff was shifted to Sabotage.
Kid Gil was used specifically for his support capabilities. Party 21% Attack up, 10 Stars per turn for 3 turns, and he has a Star Bomb CE as well. And you know, he's an Archer. Has class advantage to protect him from the Fergus smash buttons.
On that turn Robin will kill any so it's better to do the brave chain for robin np gain and on the 4th turn Fergus has big damage cut so doing damage isn't an option making quick chain for stars better

On water field, only attack buffs get blocked. Defensive buffs are fine.

Don’t be fooled by the def up. It ignores def pierce. My Fugino still deals 0 damage even with her skill.
Def pierce doesn’t go through Damage Cut, weirdly enough. Just ignores literal Defense Up.
It's dmg cut not def up so yeah, ignore def skill definitely doesnt work there
