  • They don't all go smoothly. The morning started out weird, and went downhill from there LOL. At least the bands cooperated with me today......sort of. Conditions have been ROUGH lately. The first two hours of my activation went all sorts of sideways. Yes, the first two hours. No, they're not in the video. Yes, it was a disaster. You'll see what I mean in the intro to the video. In the end, I got things straightened out and was able to finish my activation. The Venus SW-3B worked great. Definitely a nice little CW rig, especially for the price. Thanks all for watching. I appreciate it! 73

      Thanks! Yeah, we're blessed with a lot of really beautiful state forests here in Upstate NY. Some of them are truly incredible. I'll be working from some later in the spring/summer that are absolutely amazing.

      Thanks! Yeah, I figured I was already there, so I was going to finish the activation even if it required hiking back out, building a new antenna, and hiking back in LOL. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Evan, nice video again! Glad you persevered with the activation despite the considerable challenges. I'm glad that you don't edit the mistakes out of your videos. This type of video goes a long way to encourage and motivate new CW operators to just get out there and do it. It also shows that mistakes are okay and you don't need perfect sending and receiving to get a POTA activation. Thanks for the video!

    Glad you got your 10 contacts. We all have those days when nothing seems to go right, glad you persisted and completed the activation. The SW-3B is a great radio, I enjoy using it too for portable activations, 73

    Nice job Evan. Way to see it through! My SW-3B is working well for me. Conditions have been tough for us in the qrp life. I'm going to play around with half-square antennas that have bi-directional gain patterns. Maybe even a smaller doublet....

      Well, if I wasn't an idiot (and I am) I would have realized the giant tree right next to the one I strung my antenna up in was dead.... When I set up camp for the night I always check for widow makers. I guess I need to start doing that when I set up my antennas too lol

    What speaker is that? I've had one that looks identical since I was in college around 2012. I think the battery is shot in mine after 11 years, but that would work perfect for my practice oscillator that doesn't have a speaker.

    • @EvanK2EJT
      @EvanK2EJT  Год назад

      It's just a little rechargeable speaker I got on Amazon. It is tiny and light and gets the job done. The sound isn't amazing, but it works for what it is. a.co/d/1iQW1sm

    How are you going to remove the wires you left behind in the tree????

    • @EvanK2EJT
      @EvanK2EJT  Год назад

      The short answer is I can't. It's probably about two feet of wire 40' up in a tree miles into the woods. Not optimal, but there's not much I can do about it at this point.

    What brand and model is that little speaker?

    • @EvanK2EJT
      @EvanK2EJT  Год назад

      I got it on Amazon. The brand is Mohoss. It was cheap, it's light, and it works. For a little radio like this it's perfect. The one thing I will say is that the cord is very short.....like 6 inches or so, and it's not removeable. Aside from that, It's a nice little speaker for this kind of stuff for $15.98. Thanks for watching!
