- This was an old demo I was working on for fun that seemed to drum up a bit of attention, glad people are into it. A few of you are asking to add their own vocals over this, feel free to do so, I just ask you don't claim the instrumentals as your own, please. Tuning is in drop c#, I believe. Not really looking to sell this instrumental, the quality is kind of shitty, anyway.

You wrote all the parts? That's amazing. I've been trying to start a band for forever but can't meet people into the same music as I am. I wanna do it all myself but it's hard.

I like how it sound like it was recorded in a garage or basement. Some things are best kept raw

I'm currently in a pop/punk experimental type band and this sounds strikingly similar to something we would do it's jaw dropping haha I am very interested in using this for my bands ep. t train I have some stuff i'm not planning to do anything with. Just stuff I've written just for the sake of making something. I couldn't imagine charging anyone for the stuff I make though. The quality isn't that great, as I can't afford decent recording/production software haha. This is my soundcloud. how do you come up with your instrumentals ?
Ant meister Usually, I think up a riff, or an idea for a chorus or something, and I'll map the drum track for that part first using a drum machine program called Hydrogen. From there, I mess around with different guitar ideas, and build more of the drum track until I have a drum track for an entire song. From there, I export it into an mp3 track, then import it, using a recording program called Audacity. I then plug my amp into my laptop, it has a direct usb port, and record the guitars and bass over the drum track. This gives me a scratch track that I can jam to, and come up with new ideas or change things around. From there, I take the original drum track, make whatever changes, humanize the drums, as I no longer have a drum kit, and then pretty much repeat the process, this time taking guitar tones in mind. Afterwards, I mix the tracks, the best I can, volumes, effects and the like, and that gives me a pretty solid demo track. It's really hard to get a professional sounding mix with this setup, as all of the programs I use are freeware, very watered down versions of their counterparts, but it's definitely a decent enough setup to get ideas across to my band and whatnot.

Ant meister Sorry for the late reply. Riffs tend to come to me most when I'm at work, I have a job where I can have the music I listen to playing. It's kind of hard to force something out, at least for me. The idea for this song came to me when I was out skating, I kind of heard the chorus in my head after listening to a song by Brand New, then I came home and started working on it. In short, it works for me to find inspiration in what I listen to, and don't over think things, I guess? Sorry, I wish I could be of more help haha.
Ant meister Jamming along to songs helps a lot too. You should definitely give Hydrogen and Audacity a try, they're totally free, pretty easy to pick up on with a little experimenting, and they don't require high specs to run. My desktop from 2002 runs them without any problem.
