We had to replace our hay barn roof last year. We are using the old pieces of metal roofing inside my barn as a ceiling. I was so sick of birds coming in and nesting, shitting all over my stalls, in the horse's feed buckets, etc. Also, originally, I had three see through panels because that barn doesn't have electricity. They were in the worst shape! So now it is darker and cooler in there, and I put some solar string lights in there so if I have to venture in after dark, there's a bit of light. We may go to the Reuseit store and get a window, but it's not a big deal. EDITED TO ADD: It's never a bad idea to have another place to live if your house burns down, etc. I have a shed with my 'canning' kitchen, but I also built big wide shelves that can be used for sleeping. When I'm not sleeping out there (camping on my own property), they hold canning jars, etc. A friend of mine had to stay in a crappy motel when her house burnt down, and it was awful. But they had to pick a motel near their property because their barn was fine, and she had to do chores just like usual.

I've been a big believer of learning as many thing's as possible in life.
A carpenter by trade , but i do many other things which are the following areas , stone mason , electrical work, cast bullets, can make gun powder & primers , reload ammunition in pistol, rifle & shotgun , firearms instructor , fix motorcycles & cars , forge edge weapons like knives, swords , spear heads , axe heads , I've garden every year since i was around 7 years old.
    I hunt , fish , trap & can food .
Can sew & tan hide if needed .
Learned how to ride a horse .
Have almost everything to survive SHTF .
Just need a bunker & like minded people to community with , which is hard these days .
Most of the people i know are lazy & have no life skills, 95% of them don't prep for anything
They expect hand outs & the government to help them when things go south.
I feel they are useless eaters in the end of days.
Most of them will die with no planing for the future , within 1 to 2 weeks at most.
    I do what i can with limited fund$ .
I'm in my early 60's now , life is slowly fading away , wife not doing to well with 2 major strokes last year.
Hoping to live past 80 if possible, time will tell.
Stay blessed , be blessed daily in your walk in life you all.
Living the life one day at a time with Gods love & mercy.
Repent of your sins & pray daily !

Jason, I am a landlord I owned four properties and sold two and still own two homes. Unless your laws are much more favorable too the owner/investor than it is here in Communist-fornia, which gets democrat worse by the second, I will NEVER recommend rental property. Perhaps storage lots versus single family rentals. Seriously consider storage units, RV Parking as a first option.

We are busy building a storage unit in the back garden. Not huge but decent sized, also using old roofing sheets. We've cast a concrete base and put in the supporting poles which we have also put into concrete so they aren't directly in the ground. We have the windows which are saved from an old building, so just need to figure out what to do about the door. We will be catching the rainwater runoff into water tanks.

G'day Jason.! (5.32am). Being Jack of all Trade & Master of None is better than Jackshit. We did what you're doing decades ago, slowly but surely. We did everything except the foundations. Hubby is good but he's not that good. You will be surprised how many folks would like to Get Away from the Hussle & Bussle of the city & just relaxing in Nowhere Land. It is worth the effort, pain & hardship, speaking of which, the girls have finally recovered from their survival challenge. It was more of an ordeal really considering they opted for 5 days instead of 3. Needless to say, that they were truly ripe when they got home & not liking it when told to use the outside shower before coming in. Understand their dislike, it's winter over here. Averi & Jackson (dogs) didn't complaint. Atleast now they slightly know how the Depression era feels like with lack of everything. We're not hard parents, just foreseeing what's to come & when. The girls will tell you their adventure when they're ready or rather recovered. We won't be having this conversation if you're not making a difference with our angels. BTW they like your ER but won't send their bikes for you to fix.! You will do well mate. Cheers cobber.!
