8:00 I love how the key marketing strategy in old school ads was to fukken launch the thing off a hill.
Then tow it to the nearest junk yard cause the front end was crushed..
@@SeemzLegit454 You know what they say, "Whatever end's up totaled in a junk yard on Sunday, sells to the oblivious consumer on Monday"
These Up to speed series are literally art.
The third generation Scirocco is a piece of art. I remember when I first saw it in public - at one of the many small parking lots at our private boarding school, with Ferdinand Piëch's wife behind the wheel picking up their son to get home for the weekend. So far, so normal. The crazy thing about this situation: back then the Scirocco wasn't even available, it was still shown at different shows, and I was allowed to sit inside it and have a look at the beautiful beige interior and comfy leather seats. And the wheels were those show-off chrome monsters. I will always remember this day. And also: Rest In Peace Ferdinand Piëch.
That "old guy", Ferdinand Piech, is the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche.

I’ve always been a Scirocco fan and I truly miss my 1980 Scirocco. Even today I will be able to spot a Scirocco on a crowded street. Thanks for this video.
The VR6’s sound is incredible. One of my favorites.
Dude. The Oscar's part was epic. Congratulations
The Scirocco body design was the pinnacle of Volkswagen. It been downhill from there.
I'm going on my 5th ROCC and it never gets old, driving it or watching videos. Awesome video👍🏼
Every thing you need to know to get up to speed on TRD (Toyota racing development)

My father had a Mk1 Scirocco before I was born, he's owned every generatiom of Corvette and Camaro...but he still talks about the build quality of his Scirocco, how well it handled and how smooth the ride was.
He didn't own it for too long though.
He told me the three cars he regrets getting rid of the most are his '76 427 tri-power Corvette, his '59 Vette Roadster and his Mk1 Scirocco.
My first car was a 1982 Scirocco. Loved that thing. I once cleared a bridge landing at least 60 feet later. The best.
Man I love you, you are amazing. Made my day, hope the rest of the year goes the same way
This episode was above and beyond in production! Well done well done
Everything you need to know about to get up to speed on the Nurburgring
.../Nordschleife
Stay Frosty WTF does that mean?
It’s the Nürburgring most people know nicknamed the green hell
@@Glamrock993 its German for north track
They also have a GP track but the one everyone knows is the north track
@@Glamrock993 the Nürburgring is the racetrack. The Nordschleife is a part of it. In fact the big part usualy everybody means when they talk about the Nürburgring. There also is the Nürburgring gp track wich can/will be linked to the 20.8 km Nordschleife in most races to have a ~25km track. And then there was the Südschleife (southloop) wich isnt part of the track anymore. But when someone says Nürburgring they usualy mean the 20.8km Nordschleife (northloop). Otherwise they usualy add gp track to Nürburgring.

Thats awesome man..They stopped production in 2017 unfortunately, i love them so much i had to buy one myself 😄
I have never liked old Volkswagens, until I got to ride in an old Scirocco. It wasn't amazing in the acceleration department. The owner however, could throw it around like it was a go-kart. He did crash it eventually, but it was still fun to drive around in that car.
I discovered my favorite VW, the W12 Nardo, about 3 years ago and I still wish that they produced them.
'He did crash it eventually' 😹😹
@mega catares, Yup, he did crash it into a wall.
I wasn't in the car when he crashed thankfully. But, it was fun.
You lost me @ " I never liked old Volkswagens "......
I might be biased but this is the best up to speed ever!
I love my 2016 Scirocco GT Black Edition so much and finally it’s got a up to speed episode
I first saw the Scirocco while surfing through instagram and i didn't knew something as beautiful as that exists!! God, it was love at first sight. I was so amazed with the looks of it.
Remember this car from the Midnight Club:LA Days. Hope they bring it back sometime
"and the US....didn't!"
That shit destroyed me, I laughed for a good 10 minutes straight. This running joke of US always getting screwed on awesome cars is too good.
It's too funny XD
Actually it was true back then, especially the power was decreased for the US-market, but over here, in Germany, many People were jealous on the Americans, because they usually got better exterior. I think almost any Tuner used US bumpers without the big Space for the license plate and also the turning lights were usually US ones. That trend continued, as far as I know, till 2007 or so. At least US-mods were also a thing for my MK4 Golf from 2002.
Attempting my 1985 Scirocco restoration in the middle of a fricking Pandemic. Love UR show. We'll post when we can - hope You'll watch.
Thank you for the video! Even more proud to be a Scirocco owner!
Do a up to speed on lancia !!

Yes! The integrale or delta or anything by them would be awesome

Keep the Le mans under rated or there wont be any to buy😭
First car I fell for, my dads friend had a MK2 Scirocco in Tornado red with the 16v engine, stunning car. I now own a Corrado VR6 which is a project car and a TDI 2010 Scirocco, may have had more an impact on me than I would like to admit.
I love seeing what power manufacturers can squeeze out of 4 cylinders. Love the brz. 205 with no turbo isn’t bad.

Thanks, very much overlooked cars. I bought a low mile 1980 white GT model back in 82' that had an overheated engine for $1800, and found a 79's diesel rabbit engine with 5,000 miles for $500 bucks and dropped it in, and found out the performance was about the same. I then Added a Turbo, performance exhaust and suspension, some ground effects, and adapted a Mercedes 300SD fuel enrichment actuator and methanol20%/80%water injection, and was getting around 100hp, and 60mpg. I drove for years and 150,000 miles with no issues. Even today it would be a fun and remarkable car.

Up to Speed Dodge Challenger pls. ( 1970-2019 ). :)))
ABF 16v will always be one of my favorite motors. Too bad we never had them here in the states, just the 1.8l PL and 9A 2.0l. A PL head on a 9A block is a worthwhile mod, especially with the 50mm intake manifold and 'euro' intake cam. Ahhhhhh back in the days of Techtonics, and Autotech were some of the only tuners. Another cool trick is to get a spare exhaust cam and chop the end off it and run it in place of the intake cam. BOOM, an OEM part that can be used to stay within class rules that only allow factory parts. Its funny how many people are intimidated by CIS but I love it, having turning wrenches on so many CIS cars back in the day. Couple other good upgrades for the 16v CIS cars are the Audi 5000 throttle body, airflow plate and fuel dizzy. They all bolt up and work. 👍🤙😎
Correct on all accounts. We can be friends ;)
I was stationed in Bavaria in 2009 and saw this 3rd gen scirocco on post. Man it sweet!! Wished it could have been brought to the states.

I live here in the States, and had a 1980 Scirocco GTI, which had a 1.8L engine, and the single wiper like the '77 models. It came with another odd VW in a purchase. The 1984 Jetta GLI, another rare VW (4K transmission), I bought to build into a Rally car. I raced it from '95 through '99.

4:44 that was totally my car. Bosch fog lights, metallic green. Extremely fun car (when all the other cars out there were boring and a Mustang GT would make 135hp and be a PITA to drive), though reliability was non-existent.
The rubber timing belt broke within a year. It didn't break, but the rubber teeth got chewed off in one spot. The speedo broke, valve seals didn't seal, muffler pipe broke open, pin holding a rear shock popped off, rear window and driver window allowed rain to pour in, air pump filter rusted and fell off, and carb was in one of two states constantly: lean or rich. LOL, I had parts of that car held together with ribbon that I found in the street. But the body, I kept that perfect, so it looked great. When I traded it in the salesman said "and I know that the drivetrain is in as good a shape as the body" and I gave a deadpan "no". He thought I was joking.
The dual wipers came back with 85, not 84. The bigger spoiler appeared in 85, the 16v shared the same spoiler.
The mid 70s car market was obsessed by fuel efficiency and Detroit tried to turn the public against Washington by only offering boring low powered cars. That's how a 70 hp Scirocco could be perceived as a performance car. By the mid 80s things had changed, the Mustangs and Camaros were over the 200hp level, RX7s, and Supras abounded, and an upsized, upengined Scirocco would have taken a huge investment to compete in a saturated market. And gas was so cheap that small cars fell out of favor with the public.
Just got my wisdom teeth removed, so this was a nice surprise to see after waking up, thank you donut
