You have the absolute and total respect from someone on the other side of the earth, who wishes he had been involved in this project.

      @gordon quigg said: -in my humble opinion. If you'd get rid of those two ropes hanging down from the wings, it would give you more speed and flight power. Also, a straighter wing, with about 2 degrees of total dihedral, would give 2 times the lift with 1/2 the effort. That super flex wing is spilling off all of your lift, and leaving you with too much drag. You need to have all of the wing lifting 100%, tip to tip. Put more vertical balsa stringers for light weight strength, throughout the wing, especially in the center area of the wing. Cut 5 to 10% off of the tips of the propeller blades, for more torque and pedaling power.
      ALSO, from my point of view, i would add a GEAR box for changing the Gear Ratio when you are already at max speed, so you can shift into 2ºnd gear and 3ºrd gear and Get 2-3 times the power with equally lower strenght required, i think you can fly for as long as your legs want to push (with gears just "gently push") the pedals that way.

    • @chrismofer
      @chrismofer 3 года назад +1

      a lifting gas might not be a bad idea but generally with airplanes you want the wind from the front so that it requires less effort to maintain lift. "going upward" requires far more energy than flying level, i think going up and then gliding actually is less efficient than just flying straight there.

    • @Dr.MSC.W.Krueger

    If the change the tail feathers by adding non moving vertical and horizontal stabilizers with rudder and elevator control surfaces it would be a lot easier to control the pitching. Last instead of relying on rudder they need small ailerons to steer. Rudders don’t steer planes as well as banking.

    if there were lines to the outer part of the wing tied to the main body and across. and a riser on top, . it may reduce flex and produce greater lift

    I feel that the wing longtitidudinal stiffness could be better. Too much lift is lost by such flexing.

    • @miniphase

      The wing isn't stiff enough to use ailerons for roll control. It looks like the main problem they have is a pitch coupling from rudder input.

    Ground effect is lift gained by flying no higher than the wing is wide. If it can't fly higher than that, see Spruce Goose.

    It seems that they lose a lot of power against the wind to bend the wings to the optimal shape that could take him off. Why don't they try to bend the wings before taxing?

    They should use fishing line to reduce the wings deflection just enough to increase lift without sacrificing stability. Less lift will be wasted. Another thing would be to add small vertical winglets on the tips to reduce drag caused be vortices on the tips.

  • @samhouse3593
    @samhouse3593 3 года назад +2

    Maybe add light nylon lines under the wingtips and attach to the fuselage to keep them from bowing, as soon as that bowing started you inevitably lost lift

    • @zekezero12345

      Dihedral improves the roll-axis stability of the aircraft, an important factor when you consider that the wing has no ailerons.
