I never understand these. By the time the running back is in a position to receive the ball, the conflict defender hasn't taken a step. He's barely shifted his center of gravity. What is the quarterback reading?
If he doesn’t move at all he’s never going to be able to make it to that slant window in time. They are taught if he crashes or sits still throw the ball. Only If he bails will it be a handoff
@@Him-bl9kx I understand what you're saying, although I was always taught that slants are thrown to vacated LB spots. The slant is for when the LB blitzes or plays the run: if he just holds position you hand the ball off. A slant would get knocked down, or intercepted. And yet QBs who do the rpo well almost always choose correctly.
@@jessejordache1869 the LB has to read and then step in the way of the throw to be in position for the slant, he doesn't start in position to play the slant because the receiver is too wide for the LB to play the slant and if he freezes and doesn't move to get there as soon as the ball is snapped or plays the run that means the window for the slant is open.

@@Jaedennm So it's more of a PRO then? It's a pass UNLESS the conflict defender drops to cover the slant, is what you're saying.
@@jessejordache1869 Yes. You’re making it so much harder than it is. It’s pretty simple
