*I live in an area where I have about 12" of hardpan about 12" down so it was a difficult **MyBest.Tools** and back breaking task to dig a hole to plant a tree. This thing works great, breaks up the hardpan easily and quickly. Still not easy to plant a tree but the time and effort is greatly reduced. For the money it is well worth it. The case is cheap and easily cracks but the tool is good.*

Great review, I've just bought the 18v bi turbo sds plus, 5.8 joules of impact energy (or around 4.3 ft pounds) I've always found bosch drill bits to perform well and last for ages.

I wish someone did this level of testing between the Milwaukee Red Helix Cobalt & Bosch CO21B Cobalt M42 drill bits.

NIce break down appreciate your hard work, I actually just started buying bits and I chose bosch because they were cheaper and basically looked like the Milwaukees, I didn't realize they were better but it's good to know you get the best bang for your buck with them, and that's what most of us Diyer's and weekend warriors are looking for,

I've heard from within the industries that Bosch, Milwaukee and Hilti are all made in the same factory. Perhaps it's just the different specifications and head design?

I know that milwuakee also makes ridgid, and dewalt and blackn decker are the same company but I don't know about hilti

The only question I have is the bit design. You did not show the bit tips. That can make a big difference in drilling performance and longevity. I have replaced a bunch of my bits with hilti te-cx which is a four cutter design simply because of performance and longevity even though the other bits I have are still usable. I believe that many of the previous bits that I have were Bosch because they really dominated the market at the time aside from Hilti. I have found the Hilti 4 cutter drill much faster. Milwaukee was not really around as much in that market then. Many of the bits out there only have the 2 cutter or one blade across design. At least many others have a nub or carbide hitter on the alternate sides. If you are a contractor than you should not be trying to skimp or save just because hilti bits are more expensive unless they do not perform better. You have a job to do, and you should do it right and make your job easier even if it means higher cost.

I found in my own head to head, force controlled, testing that the Hilti 2-cutter was faster than the 4-cutter (22.77 seconds/ 8" depth vs 27.60 seconds/ 8" depth, 3/4" diameter. Three trials of each under force control into the same concrete using a Hilti TE70 and new bits.

With any brand, I too find the 2 cutter faster as well as more durable. I purchased one of those special 4-cutter Hilti bits they claim will cut through rebar. I roasted the bit within the first hole and had to resort to the cheaper 2-cutter which finished the job of over 100 14" holes with rebar. I find that the 4-cutter will cut straighter than the 2-cutter, and that's probably why it got roasted so fast as it wanted to go through the rebar, where as the 2-cutter will skip past it.
