In the mid 1960's, Dave Hartman, like many surfers from Maryland, made the switch from riding a canvas matt, to stand up surfing. As surfing became more popular, Dave travelled extensively looking for better waves. In a recent conversation, I asked him how he dealt with other surfers when on the road. His solution was to look for an uncrowded point break, knowing that the reward will be greater than any problems encountered along the way.
This movie features Dave surfing a very uncrowded wave at Punta Mango El Salvador in 1975. Occasionally you can see one of Dave's traveling companions in the lineup.
After a point in time, Dave befriended some of the local residents, who he credits as some of the most generous people he ever knew.
