Anybody who’s watched Legion on FX knows that Dan Stevens is INSANELY talented as an actor who can do everything from serious to hilarious.
Facts
Legion is soooo underrated
He's been a favorite of mine since The Guest. He's just fun to watch
The Guest too
He was great in the guest as well
To be fair in the original Dracula novel it did take the heroes in that story a while to figure out what we the reader have been yelling at them since page 1!
Stoker did use that masterfully. Great observation.
Yeah, but Bram Stoker didn't advertise it in a newspaper or sth. Honestly it's annoying when the trailer just spoils the movie.
another reference to Dracula was Swan Lake's OP 2 which is heavily used in this film. used originally in Bela Lugosi's 1931 classic
@@hotglassfilms That is really cool. I am really looking forward to this movie.
Quite true.
Imagine if the marketing for this was us afraid for Abigail being kidnapped. To then in the movie twist it into her being the monster
Somehow someway I feel someone could have edited the trailer to still be GOOD and interesting without giving away that she is a vampire. When I saw the trailer I was interested but as soon as I saw literally what she was my interest dropped a lot!!
It's tricky though, because some people would probably be disappointed then, since they were expecting a thriller drama about a kidnapping, and not a monster movie.
I think the best way to do it would be to show that there's something "wrong" with the situation, or Abagail, but not explicity say that she's a vampire.
But then, I guess people might think it's an "exorcism" movie... Marketing movies is hard.
But I still might check it out, despite knowing she's a vampire, so maybe the marketing did it right anyway?
I just don't see how that could have been done if most of the scenes are of Abigail in her vampire form
@@ahmedhathouttthere is 45 minutes of footage leading up the reveal. I am sure if they wanted they could have made a trailer and not FULLY revealed what she is.
I know WHY they revealed it because people want to know prior to seeing it. Me...I would rather not fully know what she is so I can be in the dark just like the characters.
Take a look at Barbarian trailer it gave NOTHING away and was better for it.
@@jcaashby3I feel the exact same way
M3GAN vs Abigail. Let's go!
I actually think they would be pals.
Murderous, dancing, pals.

True that lets do it . They did with alien and the Terminator
dont tempt them!
TBF to the marketing team, I probably would have given this a miss if I didn't know the girl was a Vampire. The premise of the movie is definitely why i'm going to buy a ticket
I get that, but I agree with his comment on if we know because of the trailers and the whole first half of the movie the characters don’t it can be annoying. I’m glad barbarian did the trailers how it did because watching that movie in theaters was some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time watching a horror movie and a lot of it is because I had no idea where the movie was going due to the trailers revealing so little.
@@LoXHumaNI am with you on this and loved Barbarian. I would have liked if they at least TRIED to make a trailer that hinted at her being more than a little girl but not straight up give it away in the trailer.
Over-intellectualizing the fact that the trailer screwed up.
If they just showed that there is something happening to the kidnappers without revealing it, that would have been better.
@@jcaashby3 yeah, I feel like the name of the movie being her name and a little more ambiguity would have been cool. Because it would be enough to peak a lot of people’s curiosity, I’m still on the fence about going to watch this, I’ll leave it up to my fiance to decide if we watch this or something else next weekend.
The set-up with the kidnapper characters essentially makes this "Reservoir Dogs" with a vampire.
There's a "From Dusk Till Dawn" joke in there somewhere.
I read that as Reservation Dogs and was like I don't remember that episodes
Chris grew up with Abigail
Not really because in RDogs they ALL were in on a robbery and one of them was a cop.
Abigail is a kid and not part of this group.
The one similarity is the group doesn't know each other.
I don’t see the similarities
Kind of like how the first time I ever saw From Dusk till Dawn I already knew it was vampires due to commercials, but the movie itself took it’s time and didn’t hint at it until it happened
That is true and I love that movie myself.
I went into From Dusk Till Dawn not knowing about the twist. That was definitely a WTF??!! moment and I loved it!
I somehow saw that movie and did not know about the vampires. So imagine my shock when sexy Salma Hayek head turned into what I thought at the time was a damn SNAKE HEAD demon LMAO!!!
Only movie i ever watched and soon as it finished I put it straight back on, was like what the hell did i just watch, have to see that again.
Dusk till Dawn Meets M3GAN Meets Home Alone Meets Breaking Bad Meets Vampire

Bro the whole movie i kept saying this lmaoo
. hahaha!!! Yes! Very good observation.
With the amount of problems going on with Scream 7, I am glad that Radio Silence is able to get out and do their own films! Excited to see what they have next!
The movie was in the works back in April 2023, that’s way before all the issues with Scream 7
It's a conundrum. It would have been a lot more effective - and probably more fun - if I hadn't know the twist. But I admit, I might not have seen it in theatre in the first place.
i was in the theater.
The whole Room for me, i was alone.
Looking forward to seeing this movie
Melissa Barrera and Kathryn newton back on the big screen again this year
I was at the world premiere for this at Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans. I have to say, this movie is an absolute blast and a half, especially when you watch it with a crowd. There were some amazing bits in it that got the crowd roaring! Excited to see it again.
Terrible film. Melissa Barrera is a terrible actress. she can’t act. she plays the same role in every movie and has no acting range. Playing a typical boring girl boss who can overpower the kevin durand character and she is suppose to be a former junkie. does she look like a former junkie. lol. She’s miscast in every movie.
sick of the terrible writing. All men are treated like they are dumb and all the women are girl bosses and insufferable.
great to see Kevin Durand here, he's always killed it especially in baddie roles was worried Hollywood forgot about him
He was funny in wild hogs and smoking aces
He was great in dead like me too!
And Walking Tall!
well, he's been busy managing twitter and tesla
Lord Zipacna in Stargate SG1 and Vasiliy Fet in The Strain
in my opinion, i was SOLD the moment the trailer said "it's a ballerina vampire" and even my partner turned and said, "that will be a fun one"
i think that the marketing wanted to lean on the fun and wacky side of it and stay away from "twists" since we're kind of getting tired of that and sometimes we should watch movies just for fun 🤷🏽♀️ i bought my tickets a while back and support Melissa Barrera on this project 🇲🇽🍉
Same. Child monsters , especially child vampires are scary asf bc they are so twisted .
I had fun with this movie, but it really bothers me how vampires can’t just have 2 or 4 fangs anymore like they used to. Having all sharp teeth just isn’t a vampire to me. My opinion 🤷🏻♂️. I would have liked it a lot more if she just had 2 or 4 fangs in her mouth.
Chris has been reviewing movies nearly every day, meaning so many good movies this year by far.
Yeah, the common sense 😅
*so many movies this year by far.
Yeah, but he bailed on a true critique of Madame Web .. just call out bad films , PERIOD. He wont be demonetized and he will have integrity. Sad how people have to dance around obvious stinkers to defend directors .. just call it like it is Chris.
@SuperOmnicronsj44 I remembered years ago that he's not going to criticize movies. He only reviews movies he enjoys. He's trying to be a filmmaker. It's rare to be a filmmaker and film critic.
Well said as usual! I agree, the trailer shouldn’t have revealed that she was a vampire. That would’ve been a fun reveal to an audience that didn’t already know it
yeah at least in Barbarian you don't know what is going on in the basement, I legit didn't see the twist in Barbarian coming
I still remember going to the movie one day to watch an generic action flick with my dad. We made a mistake and bought tickets to the movie "The Edge", with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. Were were totally blown away and had an amazing time with a movie we didn't even know existed before going in.
It's a rare treat but it's always extra fun to be surprised by a story that just unfolds before you without any preconceived notion.
I don't know why Abigail suddenly became a protagonist at the end, she literally killed everyone else in that house including peter and sammy and the movie tries to make me sympathize with her?? Even though Frank had a whole 180 for some reason 乁( •_• )ㄏ, I ended up actually rooting for Frank so he could kill Abigail
By the end I just hope our final girl could get out alive, lmao.
The cop has never been nice at all, he played nice only to survive. It makes sense he would stop playing nice once he feels like he doesn't have to anymore.
This is from my view, Abigail found a light of hope and realization from Joey that even though she's centuries old, deep down buried inside her is still a 10 year old girl who was turned by his own father and never got to experience what a normal child is nor be loved by a father as any father would normally do. That's why on the last clip where his father arrived who was about to munch on Joey but Abigail stood upfront and realized his daughter through her eyes that she was still a 10year old girl inside despite being immortal for more than centuries. Thus I could understand your sentiment how Abigail suddenly became goody goody because I feel like there're so many cut scenes that could've answered your sentiments as to how she became a last minute protagonist. For me though, as someone who's got a very high standard for movies and series, I'd give this movie an 8, probably because this is by far the only Vamp movie this 2024 but also the only vampire movie within the last 5years that has a story that would leave you intrigued on their vampire back story on how it all began and how it went. I hope this gets chance of a sequel if not a prequel.
@@johnsegura2139that’s cope
@@JamesT094 no it isn't. If you try and understand the story deeper than what is being portrayed, you would learn the same. Cut scenes in movies isn't knew, and those cut scenes are essential piece to the story, without it, it'd be looking like a rush story telling, thus this movie is no exmption to it.

@@newbeginning7829the guy who plays Dean in the movie, he passed away July of last year
Rip 🪦 Mac Miller
Aaaaaaaaaaaand Rip Melissa Barrera's Career.
I wish studios would create/release two different trailers. One that is more obscure and plays to those who don't want to know the twists and every major plot point and one that is essentially a spoiler trailer for those who want to know more going in. I think it would do wonders for getting more people into the theatres in this streaming climate
Yeah, name it like a Hidden trailer and a Reveal trailer or something? I'd love that idea!
It'd bring us back to the early days of late 70s and early 80s teaser trailers, that pretty much revealed nothing but only built suspense instead. Like the teaser trailers for the original Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing. Super intriguing trailers that spoil nothing.
Many horror trailers these days are awful. They give away the big plot points so you almost don't even need to see the movie. The trailer for The Black Phone is a perfect example. They revealed everything in that trailer. It is monumentally stupid when movie companies do this. Leave some things for the audience to discover, folks.
BINGO, this is my pet peeve with Hollywood! It reeks of desperation on the studio's behalf. Like, they have ZERO CLUE how to intrigue the audience without blatantly spoiling details, it's pathetic! 🙄
They did leave a lot for the audience to discover in this movie.
They make people not want to go to the movies because more often then not it’s going to be boring and annoying. They are killing their own industry with their greed. They don’t care if you enjoy the movie they just want to get you in there. No thank you.
Do you remember when the trailer for "The Matrix" didn't spoil anything and the only question was "What is the Matrix?" and that was enough to make the movie a Blockbuster?
Why can't they do that anymore?
The quality of movies was better back then. Now you assume you are going to be bored.
Trailers are just way to long nowadays a minute or less is all you really need/
i was the viewer who didnt watch the trailer. i was on my seat like who dafuk is the killer and when the first guy died i was like is it a ghost and the ballerina vampire reveal was fantastic because of it. i think the best part of the movie for me was seeing how the turned the typical vampire trope on its head. i also cant forget to mention how the score was top of the top when ever she was in ballerina mode.
Kevin Durant will be a good choice for the inevitable Elon Musk movie.
Kevin Durant is a black NBA star.
The guy's name is Durand.
I still remember seeing From Dusk Till Dawn in the theater back in the day. I knew absolutely nothing about the movie, only that a friend of mine really wanted me to see it. The whole time I really thought it was only this stylish movie about two crazy kidnappers. When the reveal happens it blew my mind. It was amazing! So yeah ... there is a case for knowing what you get into, so you don't waste your time, but there is also a strong case for not knowing and getting hella surprised!
Same! That movie is a perfect example of this.
It's literally the same premise as Abigail and did what Chris is describing. The movie builds itself up as a kidnipping/on the run movie; then suddenly, bam! It's a vampire monster flick. So surprising and so good!
Whoever was on Hereditary's or Barbarian's marketing team really need to be hired more. They did such a great job hiding the twists and it would have been amazing for this film.
I saw it without knowing anything... my sister just called my and invited me to "a movie".... I 100% agree with you. I knew nothing and REALLY, REALLY, REALLY liked it... not knowing anything made it even better...

Loved Ready or Not. Looking forward to this one. I think Poor Things had the best modern movie trailer. Having seen the trailer several times and watching yours's and others reviews I thought knew what I was in for. It wasn't even close to how insane that movie gets.
I *still* have no idea what Poor Things is about!
Had the opportunity to watch an early screening of the film and had no idea what it was about but the reveal was amazing and the film itself was such a blast.
Felt very 2000’s ish in theme and I mean that in the best way possible!!
The movie was stuck in a difficult position because it would have been great if they didn't reveal the 'plot twist', but they knew it might not have sold tickets if people thought it was just another jump scare kidnap film. I can speak for myself and say I wouldn't have watched it had I not known the girl was a vampire. That would have been a shame because I would have missed experiencing one of the best films I have seen quite a while. The young actress put on one of the best performances I have seen in years.
just came back from theaters and my god RIP Angus Cloud carried the comedy scenes perfectly loved it his role wish he had more screentime. life doesnt even feel real i loved him in everything he played in love ya ANG rest easy 💔

good review as always, just hoping you'd do a reaction-ish on the passing of Akira Toriyama
I didn't watch the trailer so had no idea what the premise was about. Wish Chris told us to watch it blind without spoiling it then maybe we could have had a different experience.
I haven't looked up Abigail but Stuckmann is my favorite RUclipsr.
Not mine i couldn’t care less about Chris Stuckfuck lmfao 🤣 bruh
I’m really excited to see this movie! Thank you for the review!!
Would love you to do a video on the process of script to screen from a storytelling process. Ive often thought about how the things that hook a first time reader and make them push a script into development, will more than likely not function the same way for an audience member down the line after marketing has taken over.
I hadn't watched the trailers and would have preferred if haven't told me the secret.
oh it's the rat catcher from The Strain! I love him.
I love watching movies without watching any trailers or knowing anything about them. I watched Dune 1 and 2 like that and my mind was blown away.
Stuckmann you are the best, been watching for years don't ever change and if you do make it only for the better...cheers to your contused success!
For a blind person when we come across a trailer like this, it’s actually a good thing they marketed it this way. My eyes don’t work so I can’t see what is going on on the screen around me so when a trailer comes on that doesn’t tell you anything it’s like OK. What is this? That said I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I heard about it. And I wanna go see it with my aunt.
Not usually one for horror movies, but I'm excited to see this in my local cinema. Just hoping someone gets turned during the movie as no good vamp flick goes without that!
💯 true 😊
As time has gone by my Outlook on spoilers has shifted. I used to not want spoilers, go in mostly blind, and let the movie unfold. But I have found lately that the anxiety or the suspense of worrying about certain plot points horse story lines to tracks from the overall experience of enjoying the movie. Often I will read a full synopsis before going to see a film just so I can not worry about those things and enjoy what the filmmakers have produced for me.
I absolutely LOVED Ready or Not, so I know I will LOVE this.
I’m upset that I’m gonna miss a free advanced screening of this movie 😭
i watched it in the cinema
i was the ONLY one in the whole theatre room XD
Is that Elon Musk???
One of the best movie-going experiences I had was In Bruges. I went alone to the theatre not knowing what I wanted to see or even really what was playing. I saw the poster for this starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes that said "Shoot first, sightsee later" and that was the first I'd heard of the movie. Then Colin Farrell's opening monologue hits over a dark screen and ends with "It's in Belgium" and from that point on, I had a fantastic time.
Glad to hear that this is good. I look forward to watching it.
so excited for this!! always here for my girl MELISSA BARRERA!
One of the best vampire movies…I highly recommend it. RIP Angus you always was yourself. You was a rare actor, you stayed being yourself. You will greatly be missed.
I'm one of those people. I avoided all trailers and info about this movie. Heard it was getting good reviews, watched it on a whim. The first 45 minutes were thrilling for me because I had no idea where it was going. I would call this solid horror fun.
Same here. Just watched the trailer after the movie. Definatly wouldn't be the same feeling if i knew Abigail was the henchmen at the start
Thanks for the review. Was a bit tentative about this one, but I might give it a go.
I don’t need to be spoiled by trailers, stuckman does it for me without warning
I hope I don't come off in a bad way but probably most reviews of this film will give that aspect away as the marketing already did so I would maybe recommend seeing a film without watching a lot of reviews if at all. Like I said I don't want to come off badly in any way just giving off a suggestion
I just saw the movie, i didn't even watch a single trailer nor any reviews so i think i was pretty lucky
This is an interesting premise for a horror movie. Great set up.
This movie was so much fun. Probably won't appeal to everyone though. The trailer definitely spoiled the "surprise", but I still enjoyed it. I would have enjoyed it a little more if I didn't see the trailer. I agree with you that some trailers, like Barbarian, are smart enough to give you enough not to spoil it. My advice: if there's a horror movie you're anxious to see in theaters based on buzz, word of mouth, ect,...avoid the trailers/reviews, take a chance, and go see it. Hopefully you'll enjoy something about it. Remember...not all horror movies are created equal. You're gonna see some great ones like the recent Late Night With the Devil...and some bad ones like The Nun 🤣. I did watch some early teaser trailers on RUclips for the new upcoming horror movie Longlegs because I couldn't help myself, and luckily there isn't too much revealed. However, one of the trailers before I watched Abigail in the theater was a longer trailer for Longlegs. I was like "NOPE! UH-UH!" and I just kept my head down the whole time 🤣. I'm hoping that movie is good. It kinda has a creepy Sinister/Se7en vibe to it. Here's to a continued great 2024 for horror fans...CHEERS! 👻😈💀
I imagine if more PR teams followed the lead of No One will save you, and Nope it would benefit the movie more. We knew the trope of the monster, but the subversion and how they handled it, made the movie that much more interesting. It's like seeing a haunted house versus walking through one. You know something of what you will experience, but only when you go through it and see everyone's reactions, do you really enjoy it.
Ayo! When I saw the trailer my initial thought was "why did they show she was a vampire at all? That just sort of ruined the movie!" like, yup. I dont wanna pay to go see a movie I know whats going to happen like 30 minutes in. Ive noticed lately trailers are giving to much away that it either says that 1, there arnt any decent people working in the industry with any real experience in their jobs, or 2, these studios do not have faith in their projects or trust in the audience.
I think it’s laziness and elitist. It doesn’t want to make you give them your hard earned money. It reals of Neopotism. No thanks. They used to be very vague in the trailers. Often the preview was narrated. People were more motivated to go the movies because movies were much better and there were no other options.
I didn't realize Elon Musk acted.. he got yoked for this role.
Fun Tibit: The names they have are based off of the Rat Pack (Joey is from Joey Bishop, Dan Stevens' Frank is Frank Sinatra)
I was the type of person who get emotionally so quick but not any more now😅 thanks ❤for the review I am going to watch this tonight

lmao then ur gonna miss out on good Cinema. Suck it up! watch the movie bc there’s more to it then her being a vampire! Like Shesh. Booooo hooo buddy. So soft.
What's interesting is I don't watch trailers so I don't get spoiled and watch reviews to see if I'll be interested in the movie, yet the review is what spoiled the movie.
yeah it's ironic he's talking about how he doesn't like movies spoiled but assumes people have seen the trailers and spoils the movie himself
@@Nevernew we'll if you've been to a movie in the last six months this trailer played. I've seen it so many times, just having gone to the movies.

What an interesting reflection! The way to sell a movie vs. The way to enjoy it the most
You just described 99.1% of horror movie trailers these days that give away too much.
i miss a 70 Seconds trailer, not those 200 Monsters...
One interesting fact about Abigail: It's general plot (robbers + vampire girl) is very similar to a Kim Newman short story, "No Gold in the Grey Mountains", that was published in the Warhammer anthology book Silver Nails.
Hey Chris what is the update on your horror movie??? I remember you were showing a lot of behind the scenes and all the sudden I haven’t heard anything about it for a while.
I saw TALK TO ME with no prior knowledge about it. It was so amazing and I was very pleasantly surprised!
People who wanna know about a movie before seeing the movie just wanna spoil it for everyone else. It’s best that no one knows what the movie is really about.
Kevin Durand always delivers. He can be comedic, he can be intimidating, he can be sleazy, he can be sympathetic. Just a chameleon of an actor who doesn't get enough recognition. Maybe he's selective with his roles, idk. But he is definitely one of the top underrated performers of the last 20 years.
This does open in my local AMC around my birthday so I'll be having fun on this birthday vacation weekend waching this, Spy Family: Code White and Civil War one day at a time.
Actually, first seeing the trailer and I was already interested.
Not gonna lie, I'm more surprised that that's the same actress who played Matilda in the Musical version on Netflix, which I liked that movie myself.
You are very right about the marketing/trailer aspect and the suspense/surprise element. I walked into a cinema in Vegas in 1999, knowing nothing about the movie. It was one of the most intense movie experiences I ever had and the rest of Vegas was mwoah in comparison. After that the movie came out in the Netherlands , where I live and everybody knew what it was about and there was a surprise at the ending. And everybody bragged how they saw the ending coming and laughed at me, being so naive. I always was sure I had the better movie experience.
Of course the movie was the Sixth Sense.
Nice reviews Chris!
They said this about the movie "Prey" also, it was supposed to be advertised as an historical action movie with something mysterious happening, only revealing the "Predator" about 45 minutes into the movie. It would've been much better for the viewer, but how many people would've gone to see a historical action movie without the "Predator" involved.
That sounds made up. The predator aspects show up almost immediately. The ship is the opening credits.
Anyone know when Chris’s movie is coming out? Shelby Oaks
Im not sure it is...
I wish trailers weren’t so revealing, I agree with you on the point of the less you know the better the experience.
Hi Chris, can you please do the review on ‘Exhuma’ as well?
I didn't learn that she was a vampire from the trailers - I learnt it from film reviewers!
Love your vids Chris but did anyone else feel like this review gave way too much away even though he didn't outright say explicit spoilers? Like he goes *in detail* about the plot, the individual characters and how they interact with each other, etc etc.
Thanks for the no warning spoiler. I didn't know. What a maroon.

No, Kevin Durand is hot. Elon musk is a pale, blobular, thin-lipped husk of a man
Abigail grew up with Chris Stuckmann
Why do you keep needing to make this comment in every video he makes? The joke is old
I absolutely agree with the trailer thing, it takes away the fun of guessing the mystery behind and surprise of revelation! However it also is the trailer that pokes my inrerest to go into the theatre.
I think there is a better way to put the trailer. Maybe hint it in a way that the identity / family background of this little girl is somehow doing with all the things go wrong, but not just straight up telling everyone she is a vampire. I will still buy it cause horror & suspense movies are totally up my ally.
Anyway I still enjoyed it! There are some twists that I kinda see it but not see it coming 😂 I especially love how it gradually explores and reveals characters’ backstories and personalities. The mix between scare, gory and laughs is really good. The bloody scenes are fun and satisfying... (just personally I'm not that scared to this kind of graphics, doesn't mean that they are not brutal).
Chris Stuckman is gross and. Nothing he says is smart.
Agreed 👍🏻
