i think the whole 'quiet creepy guy' was something either because of or for the camera, cause the second the music kicked in and the interview was over he brightened up a bit
Ha, short people shouldnt wear hats? Someone tell Señor Velasquez. This was a damn funny interview. Craig, with his comic boldness and Shakespearean accent is perfect for writers in a late night format!
The whole interview is like one extended (very substantially witty) awkward pause segment. Craig Ferguson is a good sport to play along so well, the key is to not provoke I think. Remember how badly the Michael Parkinson interview with Meg Ryan turned out? Historical (and not very hysterical) awkwardness there.
It's so hard to see a good writer being almost humiliated by this clown who doesn't let him say more than two words ! And people who are told when to laugh even if it's not funny ! Specially when it's not funny ! Here in Europe who do care about talented people and I would be glad to give you links showing Mr Irving being interviewed in France or Switzerland : what a big difference !
Gee, didn’t they do a pre-interview for this? They had nothing real to talk about. And Irving easily could have given Craig the same goofiness back. This just didn’t work
Craig had to try, john appears to be pretty intimidating. With that on top of his deadpan style I imagine it would be hard to get much out of him. I thought it was all hilarious and went well.
OH MY F*CKING GOD!!!!!! Is this for real????? It's my favourite talk show host (of course) and my very most absolutely favourite writer in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!! ok... need to calm down somehow...
Irving is one of my favorite authors, so I was slightly disappointed to watch this. But I think when it comes to writers of his caliber, it makes a little sense. He's created so many words and characters that are marvelous, why should he bother with the "real" world, when the one in his head is much better? It's almost hypnotizing how much he doesn't seem to care or pretend not to. Craig did a great job with this "interviewer's graveyard."
Did the kangaroo give that to you willingly? LOL
omg...my favourite author and the most awsome talk show host in the world? i am in heaven

I don't care what anyone says! this interview is pure genius!
I love John Irving so much. No amount of exposure to Hollywood is ever going to get rid of that New Hampshire grumpy stoicism.
Does anybody else think that Mr. Irving's voice sounds a little bit like Bob Newhart?

craig is really classing it up with the new hair cut a the 3 piece suit
This is hilarious. Only Craig could do this interview without pissing himself.

I loved this guy. "Short people should not wear hats."
when he tells him Kerry Fisher gave him those testicles and John let out that oh I died of laughter
They kind of did. Irving wasn't very happy with the result, so he got them to rename it to "Simon Birch"

John Irving is bloody funny!!! :)
When are they ever going to make "A Prayer For Owen Meany" into a movie?
I've love to see Steven Wright interview John Irving.
Think of Jörg Haiders rants against Ariel Muzhikant.
I think Craig was trying, but I also think he would have tried harder were it one of his Scottish acquaintances sitting there.

Carrie Fisher.

Is it just me or is this interview hilarious? Did they plan it out, or do they both just not want to be there?
