If I'm being honest, outside of Asus, am I crazy or did everyone just agree these cards should all be ugly as shit? Especially EVGA. Why on earth would you put colored cheap looking accents on your card in 2020? I thought we all agreed at this point that the card be either neutral black/silver or neutral white and you let the RGB add whatever color the end buyer wants. I've honestly not had much opinion of EVGA coolers before but dear god that thing is awful looking. It looks like It's from the early 2010's and that's obviously not a compliment.
It would be nice to see a CLEAR plastic used - so you can see all the bits in the cards. a clear PCB board and fans would make the circuits float in a web of connections - and the lighting up of clear PCB boards would look amazing. No more green or black, go clear - be different.
When MSI says “Ample Thermal Pads” they mean that they will stack 2 layers of thermal pads to touch the air cooler because they are too lazy to make a proper air cooler. See? Ample amounts of thermal pads.

Man I bought a 2080ti about a year ago and I'm a little bummed out. Back when a 1080ti and 2080ti were about ~$100-200 difference. Probably going to wait for 40 series before I buy again, hopefully the lower price trend sticks. These 30 series cards look great though!
Bought a 2080ti last black friday sales for 900 USD in preparation for cyberpunk 2077, assembled system a week before the delay was announced. Im not too annoyed as i also got a 3440x1440 120hz ultrawide and my old 970 would not have been up to the task for a large amount of games i have played since then, i also got a good deal on the 2080ti. Another thing to consider is that its going to be extremely hard to actually buy these cards because they will sell out so damn fast, even if i sold my 2080ti to upgrade I have no idea if i would actually be able to buy a card in stock before cyberpunk release date anyway.
Anyone who bought a 2080ti since like March is just dumb. It was rumored for them to come out around now since then, and it was a guarantee they were gonna come out around now no matter what, really.
Bought mine 2 years ago - almost at launch. Got good use out of it and I don't regret buying it one bit. It was a great card till yesterday :D Will keep it around till 4000 series comes out. My wife's system has a 1080Ti which needs an upgrade though. Will get the 3090 for it.
12:15 "Hi Steve, we noticed that you spoke about our website in a poor light. Could you please take down this video? We are willing to compensate you for removing this video" -MSI
Andrew In my experience any of the custom coolers don’t exhaust anything out the back. They always dump air inside the case. That’s why you need a case with good airflow. Shouldn’t be an issue with my O11 Dynamic XL
I've always loved EVGA FTW's card and I think my 1080 ftw still looks beautiful so I don't really know who at evga thought those red accents would be a great idea, I think they will clash with a lot of setups... Moreover I feel the design is so tacky... After years of their gpu I'm thinking to switch to another AIB or even to a reference design
agree my first choice was to move to the 3080ftw3 but I am not sure maybe it will grow on me or maybe I dont care enough but I really like the 10x0 look of the cards.
The EVGA 3090 Hydro Copper is the one I will get. Do not care what it looks like (this ain’t no fashion show) I only care how reliable it is and overclocking headroom. EVGA stuff has always been good for me over the years.

@@LuckyBeepo it used to be $350 once AMD cards came out for the same generation, except for 970 that was $330 and sat there for its entire life. The 1070 was $450 and had no competition for over a year and only then dropped to $399, though that was also partly due to mining. The 3070 is still stupid overpriced, just like the 1070 and 2070 before it, only difference to the 2070 is that it actually comes with an expected generational improvment in performance making it only slighly worse than the already bad 1070.

With how much partners decided to leave unpunched, I wonder if the reference cooler will, for once, be superior. It's case design struggles all over again, lotsa fans but then obstructed with sheets of whatever just because looks.
hellterminator Who could spend $1200+ on a gpu can probably spend as much for a faster one today. They will sell it for cheap just to keep it from collecting dust. I would probably consider a 2080 ti for $300-400 since rtx doesn’t interest me.
@@Shadow__133 From my rather extensive experience with the second hand market, I can tell you few people think that way. Even today there still are many delusional people trying to sell their 1080 (not ti!) for $500+. They can't get over the fact that a rather expensive thing they bought has lost 2/3 of its value over the last few years. That's why I buy second hand almost exclusively - used hardware keeps its value much better and even if there is a rare awesome launch that renders it completely obsolete, you're still not losing that much.

I'm glad there was no press pre-brief. I know it's more work for you guys, but it was fun seeing everyone's immediate reaction and first-takes of the announcements.
I’d really like to see Steve’s thoughts on this. I think we need to stress airflow on gpu makers like we stressed it on case makers. The zotac and the Asus rog look like they give little thought as to where the air will exhaust at. The msi 2080ti gaming x trio was really bad at this. Even with fans at full speed you could barely feel the air coming off the card because of the plastic pieces that covered the side. It seemed to have similar thermals and noise to evga’s xc ultra which had very little to block exhaust but was a 2 fan card. Having 3 fans on a massive heatsink with nowhere for the air to go seems just as dumb as case fans behind glass. The second fan on the founders card that pulls air through the fins might give it an edge over everyone else with their fin-stack blocking logos and Rgb.
The Zotac "transluscent flourish" bit had me in stitches. Gotta love the sass in this video! Keep trucking GN, looking forward to your coverage of this, as always
No mention of the 3x 8-pin on the Asus 3090? On their announcement video they talk about it as a PSU power delivery management with 3 LEDs on top of the connectors to warn you if your PSu can't keep up with your card demands. I think that's an amazing feature to troubleshoot an eventual crash!! 👍🏼
It's a video card, not a line of fashion clothing. They all look fine. How good is the cooling? How do they perform? That's all that really matters. Gimme a plain black card with a good hybrid CLC cooler and I'm happy.
Exactly. We just need coolers that try to be as quiet as possible while efficiently removing the heat while not looking gaudy. I’m fine with RGB but most of the time it’s poorly done and ugly to look at.
Red Devil and Sapphire are the only ones I am interested in other than the standard card, those two have always looked the best for me, I have the Sapphire Nitro+ 5700xt and it looks great. As an AMD fan I am very tempted to get a 3080 tbh, but going to force myself to wait and see what AMD does bring before I do just incase, we havent got any benchmarks on these 3000s yet but they're looking impressive, AMD has shown on the CPU side that they can pull it out the bag, so it's possible they could do it with GPUs, we don't have any news on them so who knows.
Even though you didn't touch much on the EVGA Hybrid model I'm looking forward to it's review as it's the one that I'm most interested in for my upcoming build.
Same here. I had 2 1080 evga hybrids sli and have a 2080ti hybrid now. If I upgrade (big if), will do the same again probably (wifes rig would get the 2080ti).
Not for the rest of the year probably lol. First nvidia cards, then RDNA 2 cards, then Zen 3 CPUs. Not too mention two crazy consoles launching, what a year for hardware
That was my Zotac 1080 Ti I sent in a few years back. Based on your awesome review, I did end up returning it and got the refund after following your instructions on reattaching the original heatshrink in place of the appropriate height pads you left on for me. Thank you again for being thorough and sharing your methodology.
@Chad Reynolds Inferior cooling, yeah, you're right, but the stock cooling seems pretty okay this time. As for overclocking, I have never felt the need to overclock my gpu in any game, ever. My performance was always good enough. But if this is what you're into, then yeah of course the FE sucks. Considering most aftermarket GPUs cost 50-150 more than the FE, and they frankly look like shit (I mean, look at that EVGA abomination.. would you honestly pay for that?) I'm fine settling with a lower base clock.
Anyone else think on the RTX 3080 founders editions, that top instake fan is going to mess around negatively with cpu temps? Especially if you’re air cooling.
It will increase ram and cpu temps for air cooling but it will make it so that there is less hot air re-corculation in the case. I could link a video by Russian dude in which he modeled airflow in solidworks
I haven't known any EVGA cards design or it's controversy before but I need to say: Yes, wth is that?! That thing looks like an RGB neonstrip UV-light carnival accident or however it was called! And I love RGB and colorful lights.. They clearly should go back to their first design. xD (These red line edges and lines are the bad part of this.)
Just a personal opinion, I would love it if the beginning of the video you just showed each card, and pictures of them, Because I don't know very much about specs, and I just wanted to see how they looked, Thanks!
It’s so important to the market to have a truly independent, competent, and popular reviewer. Every one of these companies knows their product is going to get dissected on the table and that any shortcuts that are taken will be laid bare. While some companies will “be mad” at this channel for that service, the companies that aren’t cutting corners are probably thankful that their work will be appreciated, turning a vicious cycle of laziness and cutting corners into a virtuous cycle of innovation and quality. Looking forward to your recommendations so much, especially as the water cooled variants of the 3090 start hitting the streets. Much respect to you @op.

Few years ago, I though the CUDA count of titan V is extreme. 3 years later, they launched the 3090 with 10k CUDA. Technology flies fast...
What’s crazy is the CUDA core count in the 3070 compared to the rtx Titan.
Sadly it's more 5K than 10k...
Aren't they being measured differently now? I thought you had to halve the new numbers to compare to the older cards? I could be quite wrong though.
@@daweitao2668 nvidia mindshare did its magic again...
@@daweitao2668 yeah you are true but even then you cant compare that because of the new architecture and more performance watt and so on. Its nearly impossible to compare them because they are working differently. We can only compare the real performance now.

Can we just take a minute and light some candles for everyone impatient who recently bought one or more 2080 ti's?

Thank you for the effort Steve. Excited about this launch.
This has to be the worst FTW3 design ive seen.
Heh
Thankfully the XC3 is genuinely beautiful
What, you don't like addressable RGB mismatched with red accents????

Same. Kinda upset it doesnt resemble my 2070 XC Ultra more.. The red accents are a huge turn off.
It's kinda hilarious how basically everyone is stealing PowerColor's Red Devil design
The Zotac "transluscent flourish" bit had me in stitches. Gotta love the sass in this video! Keep trucking GN, looking forward to your coverage of this, as always
Seeing the prices of used 20 series cards after this announcement today is bringing me endless joy.
Tbh the founders solution still has me the most interested, let’s hope it lives up to marketing.
MSI is supposedly also doing 3x8-pin as per the press release that showed up yesterday.
Hopefully more info on their stream thing tomorrow.
In my opinion the EVGA 1080 FTW is the most beautiful video card ever made.
I just love the progress indicator and the video contents list with time.
That Asus TUF card looks like the old school Classified cards 👍🏼 sexy

I just hope pre-order folks don't get a defective founders card right out of the box like what happened with the rtx 2000 series release
I forgot about that. Certainly hampered Turing's success
Looking forward to your reviews on the cards! Also curious about the upcoming Navi cards. What a time to be alive!

@Chad Reynolds ... how?
Yeah, thankfully the 3070 FE is the regular style of air cooling.
It will increase ram and cpu temps for air cooling but it will make it so that there is less hot air re-corculation in the case. I could link a video by Russian dude in which he modeled airflow in solidworks
