Anyone still remember the feeling when we thought we clicked on the wrong anime at the beginning and refreshed the page at least 3 times to make sure we aren't wrong
Well I watched the episode on a website but I did think it was weird that that start of the show looked different but I wasn’t complaining I was just confused but the first episode was hilarious I can’t wait to watch the rest.
The god of eurobeat shows up in the fake op so I knew what was going on lol

Pop Team Epic is what happens when animators are stuck working on generic romcoms for years and they're let out of their cage with some creative freedom.

The real reason is probably funnier. Bkub Okawa, the original manga author actually made up the fake romcom to show people that he could actually draw and was a real artist since the rest of the Pop Team Epic manga is just small 4 panel stories that look like simple memes and shitposts.
Lets just take time to realize how the animators made that opening to be used just ONCE. It probably was a very hard prank to pull of lmao.
The manga artist did the same thing. Made it to beleive he was capable of creating that S teir style manga but said fuck that non sense and made 4 panel mangas

Yh that nearly made me go off when I was first watching it because I thought it was the wrong anime but after I figured out the anime trolled me I was just more interested and invested in it. Pretty smart, probably took up a lot of the budget tho but I think it was worth it as a first impression.
Well it's the other way around for me.. I'm finding the two girls who's voiced by two girls and two boys with the same scenes. When I watched the first episode I panicked thinking why is it a normal anime?

That's part of the joke. The main running gag of the show is that it's split in half, with one half having female VAs voice the girls, and the other half being the exact same jokes, but with male VAs! And it's a different set for every episode!
I think what's more funny is the fact that after Hoshiiro girldrop actually did get a legit manga during the PTE's run
So many people want Hoshiiro Girldrop because they wanted to know what the fuck happened when the girl died.

Comments here are missing part of the joke. All advertisements for the show said that it was going to be Hoshiiro Girldrop, there was no mention of Pop Team Epic at all, so when people watched this on TV they thought it was the first episode of Hoshiiro Girldrop

I know that _Hoshiiro Girldrop_ is meant to be a running joke, but I am genuinely invested in Daichi and Sosogu’s budding romance. So much so that one of my ongoing mental fanfics is about the Drop Stars and Daichi making a last stand against Pipi P. and her army of Popu-chin clones from _Pop Team Epic_ S1E3.
When I was reading weekly reviews from ANN, the ANN reviewer for pop team epic managed to predict the ending of hoshiiro girldrop. I'm pretty sure they're even more surprised than I am. A recommened read, for bearing witness to a mind being melted.
