The National Parks Expedition Challenge: Haleakalā National Park

Dr. Drizzle and Ranger Honeygirl encourage students to help them solve challenges they face as a park. A notable threat to Haleakalā National Park is alien species (non-native plants and animals not naturally occurring on the island). Preventing the initial introduction is the best way to combat this threat. They face a major problem with mosquitoes in Hawai'i. Some of their most endangered birds are being ravaged by these mosquitoes. What is your plan for this park and your community? Devise a plan to keep your waterways clean. Watch out for standing water in your community and empty pots and basins that may contain water because still water is a favorite of mosquitoes.
