    Hey Skylar congratulations on the next step of your journey! I’m currently about to finish college and plan on starting flight school this year, wanted to ask about the loan process; did you having a school loan out affect you in any way while securing the flight school loan ?

    • @flyhighwithsky
      @flyhighwithsky  8 месяцев назад

      Hey! Thank you, and no it did not. They were separate lending companies. I went through the American Airlines credit union to secure my loan for flight school. I wanted to apply for it as an individual, and you need a credit score of 650 or better. I thought I didn’t have a credit score as I had never had a credit card, but it turns out the monthly payments I was making to my loan for college built up a credit score for me, and it was above 650 so I was pumped about that!

    Looking for clarity.
    You apply, get accepted, and pay for flight training thru CFII.
    The benefit of this program is your "gauranteed" an FO position at their regional after getting your ATP.
    Am I correct? Im just trying to find the benefit of speding all this money for Ppl, IFR, and CFI ratings with them instead of going part 61 on your own.
    Thanks for the feedback.

    • @flyhighwithsky
      @flyhighwithsky  4 месяца назад

      Yes so American just changed their contract so any new students coming in will have this contract. Once you have done the application process and have done your interview to get into the academy, that is the last interview you’ll ever have to do.
      Before, it was just a guaranteed interview to try to get a job with one of the wholly owned regionals, now it’s a guaranteed job offer if you get accepted into the program. Of course throughout training you have to follow and meet the requirements (one is not failing three checkrides).
      You pick what regional you would like to fly for (envoy, PSA or Piedmont) and they will do their best to place you with them. It’s a pretty nice gig.

    • @jamess4688
      @jamess4688 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for the feedback. I would love to see more as you get to that point. I haven't heard much candid, balanced feedback on these cadet programs. Seems like folks hate it or love it, but I haven't heard much from those who are actually hired with a regional aftet they get their hours.

      There's usually a new group every month or every other month. They have cut back a little on the number of students per month I've heard. It used to be 12-15, now I think they're trying to keep it around 5 or so.

    I just stumbled across your video. Sorry if others asked these questions - or related.
    While you are in the cadet program, how are you paying your bills? Is the program full or part time? In short, does AA pay you something as you are going through this interesting endeavor?
    Again, congratulations, and best of luck. Take care and be safe.
    - Matthew

    • @flyhighwithsky
      @flyhighwithsky  Год назад +3

      Hi Matthew! Thanks for reaching out. You would have to apply for a loan (students usually go through the American Credit Union or Discover) to pay for the program.
      You can choose different options but I chose the tuition option with housing and a monthly stipend. That covered everything when living in student housing so I don’t have to worry about bills which is nice. The stipend is $400 per month that I use for gas and food. This is most definitely a full time immersive program so a lot of students can’t get a job.
      It sure would be nice if they paid us! We don’t get paid anything for being in the program, we’re the ones doing all the paying. However it gives you every certificate needed to finish here and go out and get a CFI job to start paying back the loan.
      Hope that answered all of your questions!

      I’ve heard different things about ATP. Some people really like it some don’t it’s really personal preference. For me I think 7 months to get all of your certificates is a really short time frame so it just wasn’t for me but it works for some people. Before I came to the American program I had about 35 hours and a solo from back home.

Ground school is a set number of weeks, usually about a month and a half, 3-4 days a week usually for 3hr periods. Flying wise, the average time to get your private, that I’ve heard, is 4-5 months. Personally it took me a month and a half to get through private because I came in with student pilot experience so that definitely helped my learning.
