- Hi everyone! This is episode five of my Thailand series. In this video, I explore the popular seaside holiday spot of Pattaya, situated on the Gulf of Thailand.
Pattaya does have a bit of a reputation for being a party and entertainment city, and not always in a positive way. In this video, I aim to explore for myself whether or not there is more to the city than what I read in the media. Alternatively put, I want to explore the real Pattaya, away from the red-light district and the shady bars.
The video starts with me walking on the beach and talking briefly about the recent history, before I walk down the famous Beach Road. Along the way, I form various impressions of the city and notice the huge amount of bars, restaurants, massage parlours and activities around the beach.
I briefly visit the Central Pattaya mall, where I get a tourist map of the city, and decide have lunch at the McDonald's. Afterwards, I treat myself to a refreshing smoothie from a local seller.
Armed with a map and a nutritional kick, I walk further down Beach Road and eventually stumble upon the infamous Walking Street, where I give a short tour. Following this, I visit Pattaya Pier and the surrounding area, to get an idea of the boat prices to Koh Larn, a nearby island. Along the pier, I also have some fabulous views of Pattaya and treat myself to a Durian ice cream.
I then set out to get to the top of Pattaya. After asking for some directions and avoiding a 100 Baht fee from a motorcyclist, I set off on foot towards the Big Buddha temple. Along the way I walk through a beautiful park and notice the cleaner air compared to Bangkok.
I visit the impressive Big Buddha temple complex which also has a great view of the city. Afterwards, I walk back towards the city through a residential area, where I get an idea of how people live in the city. I visit another beach during sunset and make my way back to Beach Road via motorcycle, which is where the vlog ends.
I hope this video gives you an idea of Pattaya and what the city is like, especially away from the entertainment areas. There are some very interesting experiences to be had in Pattaya and it caters for lovers of architecture, nature and culture.

You know what, Willie, when I was researching my trip to Thailand last October, I did consider maybe doing a day trip to Pattaya. But all the RUclips videos I watched convinced me not to bother. The vloggers just hadn't portrayed it in a way that made it appeal to my personal interests. But now I'm wishing that you'd gone to Thailand before me, because watching this has made me wish that I had gone to Pattaya after all! I don't think I'd want to stay there long, but it certainly looks like there are some places worth exploring.
Nice one, mate...bring on the next one! 😊
Cheers Andy! Thailand has so much to offer, hence it is actually quite a difficult country to plan a trip to. Like you, I've watched many videos and read a lot of reviews & blogs who discouraged me from going there. So I was very sceptical at first. However, I had less than two weeks to work with on this trip, so I did not want to spend too much time on the road, and wanted to stay relatively close to Bangkok. So Pattaya made a lot of sense from that perspective. It also is a great gateway to nearby Koh Larn, which was probably the deciding factor. I thought that if I could fit in Bangkok, another big city and a small island in one trip, that could be a worthwhile adventure. Really appreciate all your support my friend!
I've heard mixed reviews about Pattaya as a tourist spot, but as always you manage to bring out the beauty of a place in your own unique way. Now I know there are lots to see away from the bars and naughty areas that other videos don't showcase. Thanks for this!
My pleasure and thanks for your comment! Yes I was a bit sceptical upon arrival, but soon found some interesting places away from the tourist trail.

What amazing place Willie, Sensation view from the Big Buddha Temple complex. The Scooters are a dime a dozen, but then a good way to get around. Thank you Willie enjoyed the journey and walk about: Kiwi from Virginia

Hey Willie Pattaya is awesome , Too bad the beach was dirty one can't take full advantage of it but I'm sure there are cleaner beaches around Pattaya also that mall looked really fancy the food court was super nice and clean , Overall I liked Pattaya keep up the good work brother 💪👊👍
Cheers my friend, always a pleasure having you travel with me virtually like this. Appreciate your support and encouragement!
Excellent advice on what size currency bills to carry. I hadn’t considered that.
Makes travelling and budgeting a lot easier!
Entertaining vlog as always, Willie but personally, I did not like the look of Pattaya at all. Litter and most likely motorcycle oil everywhere on that beautiful beach. That ice cream seller clearly had something to hide😂.
Cheers Sheila, definitely an interesting cup of tea this, which will surely divide opinion. I guess I've travelled enough to find pockets of beauty but there are definitely some negatives too. I didn't get a good vibe from that ice cream seller - he flat out ignored me for some reason at first and was more interested in the groups of people that walked past. But I got the ice cream in the end! Hope all is well on your side :)
Willie ek hou vna Pattaya dis n vreemde bietjie seedy Plek. Groete!
Hou duimvas!@@willieexplore
What was up with the ice cream seller at 26:30?
Yeah he was not in the mood for conversation. But it's all good, I got my ice cream in the end!
I carry my own re-useable metal eating utensils w me including
Fork, spoon, knife, straw, and chopsticks(decor-wood)...fill up my own reuseable cup when I buy a beverage, reuseable water container...
Imagine impact if everyone tried to make this a habit- taking care of our One Earth🌎🌊
Thank you alot Willie for sharing travels and information
That is the way to go I believe! The impact would be profound.
Always a pleasure and a privilege! Appreciate your support!
