Yeah, I assumed it wasn't the nice, encouraging hanks either perhaps even accompanied with some sign language. Some people, suck - apparently a strong correlation with truckers. LOL

The problem rating something early on as a 10, where do you go if something is even more beautiful or hard later on?

Agreed! The scenery has been breathtaking every day.
There is one overlying thing with the pickup truck support you have received...the likelihood that the driver of a pickup truck can identify with you doing a very difficult job is more likely than the prospect of drivers of other types of vehicles having the same or similar life experiences. So, you would be justified in stereotyping pickup truck drivers acknowledging and giving credit for dedication and determination. We stereotype because in our experiences stereotype typically holds fairly close to being reality.
Yeah, climbing up that big hill, and your in your lowest gear. Then you try and downshift, but that's all your have. Guess what. I've been riding a recumbent since 1991, and I still do that :) So keep on pedaling, you will get there in the end. The more of a rural area your in, pickup truck drivers think they own the road. Well the joke will be on them, when gas prices get over 10 dollars a gallon this summer :) Stay Frosty, and keep your head on a swivel. P.S. From some outdoor stores, you can get "Bottled" Oxygen. Might come in handy. I've pedaled up at 12,000+ feet in Colorado, on Trail Ridge Road. Yeah, there's very little air you there. You have to chase down the air pockets :) The best thing you can do when climbing, is drink water, lots of water.
Thanks for the advice, we just summited Wolf Creek Pass our highest elevation of the trip at 10,850ft. We won't have anything close to that for the remainder of the summer.
@@davidweber9065 Wolf Creek Pass, I've been over it in a car. And yep, your pretty much done with mountains, to you get to the Appalachian mountains. But those should be a piece of cake by then. Stay safe.
