I did this trip last November in the snow (not much though) with temps between 10-30 F without wind chills. Man, we had to haul to preserve sunlight to next camp. The elevation gain/loss was a great challenge on the will power when you don't do many hikes (completed it in a Fri-Sun weekend). I loved testing out the gear though. It was my first trip with my Hammock Gear polysil nylon tarp and first night was 30+ mi winds at night and worked like a champ! Also pushed my 20F quilts (Hammock Gear as well) 10 more degrees which felt like a huge victory for me (Was worried it was going to be very cold weekend). Such neat views/vistas on that trip. I hope to get back during warmer weather (and longer days). Thank you for capturing this trip specifically!

Thanks for introducing me to the TrailWinder UQ a few videos ago, I just picked one up a few weeks ago. It's great for the NE Ohio-Western PA weather I mostly experience. It's nice to have some piece of mind when it's wet and cold. Thanks for your videos of PA as well, it's what got me back out here after decades of injuries. No pain compares to being out and away, and spending the night in a hammock.
That's great to here Scott. Glad the TrailWinder's working well for you. I'm really like mine a lot. I pushed the Climashield 3.6 version down to almost 30° on this trip and it did a great job. It's pretty awesome for 16 oz, considering it's not down.
Really needed this. I've watched your videos for years but I've been struggling lately being coop'd up in the house with the kiddos and this was a welcome virtual break.
Another great one Sean. I've only driven the interstates around that area but was amazed at the "wilds" of PA. Even though it was logged heavily back in the day, I feel it is slowly returning to a sort of wilderness between some heavily populated areas. Keep on keepin on.

Great 3 day loop and very well described here by Sintax77. **Just be advised** the bridge is out again and Pleasant Stream Road is CLOSED approaching Masten from the east. Take Masten Rd to get to the trailhead. Also, parking is blocked off and limited in Masten due to tree removal.
Love the video man. About to go on my first backpacking trip in later this month to the Sipsey Wilderness. Do a little hammock set up for a weekend. Can't wait. Thank you for all the vids, it has really help me prepare for this trip.

Thanks for all the content. You are an inspiration. I'm currently planning my first backpacking trip and found the budget videos you did extremely helpful for setting some guidelines on what I have acquired to make the trip.
My last hike I started having breakfast on the trail stopping after a few miles in the morning. I love that pace. Get up, get going then stop for a break. Also gets the blood moving when temps are below freezing.
That view from the picnic table about 1:13:30 minutes into the video of the valley and cloudy sky was beautiful. Looked like a picture postcard. Love the long videos would love to have seen more. Kelly from Texas.
Love it. We did OLP clockwise last year. The only down side was June mosquitos. Yellow dog run was a lot deeper too. Not so easily crossed. We used the shelters as our base camps and hung near them.

Thanks for the recent highlights in NEPA - We've been blessed with beautiful hiking and hammocking weather the last several weeks. Looking forward to COVID restrictions easing up so we can get out to the Black Forest Trail and finish the Western end of the Loyalsock Trail.
Some feedback: I love watching the experience because I'm just starting out with camping as I need to spend at least one night while metal detecting. I find that these videos not just for Sintax but for most others that the gear promotion is really for their benefit. Of course, they are content creators but more time is spent on explaining the gear and how it works than the actual experience. So, like myself I get caught up on gear. Name brands here are important and I find that it's not fair because there are thousands of small companies that offer good stuff too. I live in Croatia so I don't have access to the typical gear that these people advertise, but I did learn how to judge or evaluate whether I can use it in my world which by the way is much different than the Northern regions of the planet like the US, Canada and Northern Europe. I love Sintax because he does go into great details but he's always presenting new shit on each trip and of course, he gets it from the companies but for us normal people. we get the impression that name brand is important. It's not. Almost everything is made in China and I have purchased no name brand gear or gear that is not known to everyone and is better quality than the expensive name brands. Shop around long time, I made that mistake of rushing and ended up with things that either were crap or didn't need. Just my 2 cents worth, I don't mean to devalue the content, it's great but in honesty, most of that gear isn't useful in my country.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful hiking areas that I have ever seen you go through but that is just my opinion. I love it so much because it has so much variety and is also user friendly and not a test of endurance. After your picnic bench breakfast near the end, you would have gone through a rocky section with views. There is a rattle snake den in that area and I had the fortunate occasion to meet the whole family after I stepped over one of the parents sunning itself on the rock steps. As I approached the rocky section, I planted my left hiking pole right next to one coiled up. I continued on without stopping and noticed one below a step wrapped around a small bush, so I stopped and turned to look at it. That is when I noticed I had just stepped over one laying across the rock I stepped down on. I looked at the spaced out rocks to the view side and noticed a lot of little beedy eyes looking back at me. Lo and behold, a den with a whole lot of young rattlers. The one wrapped around the bush lifted about half it's body length to look at the babies and then swung around to go across the trail right next to my feet and disappear into the forest. That was an awesome encounter.
Great video thanks for sharing. Nice to see you get out to this trail. No rattlesnake sightings? The one outcrop you would have seen it on your second day houses a good population of them. I ended up hiking this twice last year once in each direction. I'm still a fan of the counter clockwise direction.
This was the first overnight and first multidday hike I ever did, two years ago with a almost 30lb pack and loved every second of it. I need to do this one again now that I rock a 13lb base and know a lot more about backpacking! Love reliving it through your eyes.
Hiked in vans hi tops. sucked bad. better than the flip flops I drove in to the trailhead. 4 hours and no nearby stores. vans it is. thankfully they were in the trunk.
I picked up a GO! OUTDOORS "landing pad"... Every hiker should have one, great to keep your stuff off the wet ground, store items in, use as a pack cover or liner. So many uses.
OLP was my first milti night hike i ever did, got to trail head in masten at 11 at night, got lost for a bit, found a camp, did most of the trail that next day. Then finished it up the following, nice seeing some familiar places on your channel.
@@sintax77 at this rate, rolling in lates my style, got to west rim trail at 10 at night, should probably sleep in the truck but we usually hike in a mile or two then camp.
Just finished putting the Burrow 40 custom with the enlightened equipment revolt 40 short to the test!. Slight breeze generated by cooling air at a valley bottom and I'm looking forward to an extra 5 degrees summer temps!. Been using the Kumo 36 loading out with a 3 night full weight at the start of 18 lbs. Lots of oatmeal! I have the loggers path, donut hole, Blackwell Midstate trail/ west rim to pine creek outfitters and finishing the summer with the black forest trail . Maybe I see you. Happy trails!
What an awesome spot ! I love to see those far off spaces. I did a video last weekend that was 3 + miles out and found a cave which I had no balls to enter being by myself lol.
I’ve done this trail both directions. My group only had the weekend to do it, so we started both trips on Saturday morning. Three days would be much better, two kicks your butt.
Just curious...while walking in the woods do you ever see tree structures or hear whooping night sounds? Have you ever done an upload where you talk about some of the scarier stories you must have? Would love to hear it!
Outstanding video Sintax even afraid I groaned in the beginning when I saw its length, but I am so happy that I endured. Sorry, I haven't watched you in a while but I had gotten hooked on AT Thru hikers. I have also followed Kurt Zitzelman Outdoors who does a lot of trips in that area. I look forward to next time. I am thinking about coming out that way some time I is probably 3 hour drive for me ugh I just checked 5 hours. I think I will stick to the Pinchot Trail. Take Care

And/or maybe some insight into some of the settings or techniques you're using during filming and post production? I'm planning to record a couple of trail guide videos later this year and I'm trying to do as much research as possible now so that I'll be able to hit the ground running. Hi Sintax77, We'd love to see your take on hiking the 'Minister Creek Trail' at Allegheny National Forest; the trail connects with 'North Country Trail'. It's only about 7 miles, but some do it in 3 days just to take it all in. You would do such a great job providing us with map info, historical data, wildlife / plants, campsite locations and detail, and the lay of the land. Minister Creek has been on my bucket list for years, I am visually impaired and don't know anyone who is into backpacking, and nobody will trust me to just drop me off so I can go it alone. Do you have any plans for backpacking the ANF? Thanks for all you do!

What is the name of the base layer pants at 50:57 ? They seem much more convient to take off when it gets too hot to hike in them compared to regular base layers
Listen to the rhythm of the rain pants...da da da da. Sorry, Syntax. That was a beautiful hike, however at odarkthirty my head smashed my keyboard and woke me up. As much as I tried to stay awake and finish it with you I had to relent. It's six hours later and I'm finishing with a great cup of coffee. I love that rain jacket and that color is pretty cool. Virginia's state parks are beginning to open back up but people are still cautious about going outside unless it's to join in the protests. Go figure. I enjoy your adventures and especially the ones with you, Sarah, Killa Mike and "Disco Danielle" and the ones with Denali, beautiful dog. Getting ready to hit the road to the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and camp, trout fish, on a beautiful lakeside campsite. At 73, most of my adventures have become overland camping with short excursions to explore. After a million miles of pounding the old knees have succumbed to common sense. While serving 23 years in the military and working in the Pacific I managed a great share of adventures on five continents and islands in the Pacific. It's wonderful to watch young folks like you involved in our incredible environment and for you to offer your adventures on You Tube. You Tube has been a savior for the past three months as I lived vicariously through everyone else. Thank you, Syntax, for sharing yours.
I just realized that when you said you weren’t crossing the bridge near the parking lot, you said counter clockwise. That actually takes you clockwise, you hiked counter clockwise to rock run.
Alright, a three night video. Like the blue shoes. Too bad they had to get soaked so soon. BTW do you have to carry Bear spray only at certain times of the year? The weather looked deceiving. Didn’t seem to look as cold as it was, especially with the wind. Too bad you had to keep going further so you could have water. I imagine it’s not worth carrying extra if you don’t have to. Anytime I’m on a trip, the first night is so hard to sleep because I’m terrified of the dark and what lurks out there. And that’s with camping with one of my adult children. I can’t imagine what it’s like by yourself. How do you manage that fear by yourself? I would like to start going on 2-3 day walks by myself as I have realized that nobody wants to go with a middle-aged sober dude. Aaand having partied hard for 30 years, i get it. People want the comfort of knowing they can bring a pint can with them or whatever. Anyway, just curious how you get through the night? Thanks, HOTC

There is a rattle snake den in that area and I had the fortunate occasion to meet the whole family after I stepped over one of the parents sunning itself on the rock steps. As I approached the rocky section, I planted my left hiking pole right next to one coiled up. I continued on without stopping and noticed one below a step wrapped around a small bush, so I stopped and turned to look at it. That is when I noticed I had just stepped over one laying across the rock I stepped down on. I looked at the spaced out rocks to the view side and noticed a lot of little beedy eyes looking back at me. Lo and behold, a den with a whole lot of young rattlers. The one wrapped around the bush lifted about half it's body length to look at the babies and then swung around to go across the trail right next to my feet and disappear into the forest. That was an awesome encounter.

Great video thanks for sharing. Nice to see you get out to this trail. No rattlesnake sightings? The one outcrop you would have seen it on your second day houses a good population of them. I ended up hiking this twice last year once in each direction. I'm still a fan of the counter clockwise direction.

This was the first overnight and first multidday hike I ever did, two years ago with a almost 30lb pack and loved every second of it. I need to do this one again now that I rock a 13lb base and know a lot more about backpacking! Love reliving it through your eyes.
I just bought myself my first hammock today. I’ve always used a tent when I hike. I can’t wait to get out and use it.

Hiked in vans hi tops. sucked bad. better than the flip flops I drove in to the trailhead. 4 hours and no nearby stores. vans it is. thankfully they were in the trunk.

I picked up a GO! OUTDOORS "landing pad"... Every hiker should have one, great to keep your stuff off the wet ground, store items in, use as a pack cover or liner. So many uses.
OLP was my first milti night hike i ever did, got to trail head in masten at 11 at night, got lost for a bit, found a camp, did most of the trail that next day. Then finished it up the following, nice seeing some familiar places on your channel.
Thanks, Karl. That sounds like a fun time. We showed up to Dolly Sods in WV late at night like that once for the first day and it was pretty cool.
@@sintax77 at this rate, rolling in lates my style, got to west rim trail at 10 at night, should probably sleep in the truck but we usually hike in a mile or two then camp.

Just finished putting the Burrow 40 custom with the enlightened equipment revolt 40 short to the test!. Slight breeze generated by cooling air at a valley bottom and I'm looking forward to an extra 5 degrees summer temps!. Been using the Kumo 36 loading out with a 3 night full weight at the start of 18 lbs. Lots of oatmeal! I have the loggers path, donut hole, Blackwell Midstate trail/ west rim to pine creek outfitters and finishing the summer with the black forest trail . Maybe I see you. Happy trails!

What an awesome spot ! I love to see those far off spaces. I did a video last weekend that was 3 + miles out and found a cave which I had no balls to enter being by myself lol.
I’ve done this trail both directions. My group only had the weekend to do it, so we started both trips on Saturday morning. Three days would be much better, two kicks your butt.
Just curious...while walking in the woods do you ever see tree structures or hear whooping night sounds? Have you ever done an upload where you talk about some of the scarier stories you must have? Would love to hear it!
Outstanding video Sintax even afraid I groaned in the beginning when I saw its length, but I am so happy that I endured. Sorry, I haven't watched you in a while but I had gotten hooked on AT Thru hikers. I have also followed Kurt Zitzelman Outdoors who does a lot of trips in that area. I look forward to next time. I am thinking about coming out that way some time I is probably 3 hour drive for me ugh I just checked 5 hours. I think I will stick to the Pinchot Trail. Take Care
Any chance of an updated list or video detailing what audio/video gear you're using on the trail these days? And/or maybe some insight into some of the settings or techniques you're using during filming and post production? I'm planning to record a couple of trail guide videos later this year and I'm trying to do as much research as possible now so that I'll be able to hit the ground running. Hi Sintax77, We'd love to see your take on hiking the 'Minister Creek Trail' at Allegheny National Forest; the trail connects with 'North Country Trail'. It's only about 7 miles, but some do it in 3 days just to take it all in. You would do such a great job providing us with map info, historical data, wildlife / plants, campsite locations and detail, and the lay of the land. Minister Creek has been on my bucket list for years, I am visually impaired and don't know anyone who is into backpacking, and nobody will trust me to just drop me off so I can go it alone. Do you have any plans for backpacking the ANF? Thanks for all you do!

I did that trail last November and froze my butt off. We went counter clockwise staying at the shelters each night.
I can imagine it could be pretty cold up there in November, if I got 31° in late May. I bet you had the shelters to yourself though :)

Listen to the rhythm of the rain pants...da da da da. Sorry, Syntax. That was a beautiful hike, however at odarkthirty my head smashed my keyboard and woke me up. As much as I tried to stay awake and finish it with you I had to relent. It's six hours later and I'm finishing with a great cup of coffee. I love that rain jacket and that color is pretty cool. Virginia's state parks are beginning to open back up but people are still cautious about going outside unless it's to join in the protests. Go figure. I enjoy your adventures and especially the ones with you, Sarah, Killa Mike and "Disco Danielle" and the ones with Denali, beautiful dog. Getting ready to hit the road to the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and camp, trout fish, on a beautiful lakeside campsite. At 73, most of my adventures have become overland camping with short excursions to explore. After a million miles of pounding the old knees have succumbed to common sense. While serving 23 years in the military and working in the Pacific I managed a great share of adventures on five continents and islands in the Pacific. It's wonderful to watch young folks like you involved in our incredible environment and for you to offer your adventures on You Tube. You Tube has been a savior for the past three months as I lived vicariously through everyone else. Thank you, Syntax, for sharing yours.

I just realized that when you said you weren’t crossing the bridge near the parking lot, you said counter clockwise. That actually takes you clockwise, you hiked counter clockwise to rock run.

Alright, a three night video. Like the blue shoes. Too bad they had to get soaked so soon. BTW do you have to carry Bear spray only at certain times of the year? The weather looked deceiving. Didn’t seem to look as cold as it was, especially with the wind. Too bad you had to keep going further so you could have water. I imagine it’s not worth carrying extra if you don’t have to. Maybe you and your wife could come back to that spot you wanted to stay with the beautiful views towards the end? Should you be carrying Bear spray? Thanks for the nice getaway video. Anytime I’m on a trip, the first night is so hard to sleep because I’m terrified of the dark and what lurks out there. And that’s with camping with one of my adult children. I can’t imagine what it’s like by yourself. How do you manage that fear by yourself? I would like to start going on 2-3 day walks by myself as I have realized that nobody wants to go with a middle-aged sober dude. Aaand having partied hard for 30 years, i get it. People want the comfort of knowing they can bring a pint can with them or whatever. Anyway, just curious how you get through the night? Thanks, HOTC
