Cool video. That was my first duty station also in 1982. Now I'm retired and living in Lubbock TX, so I've been back there a few times.

My dad got stationed here ‘68-‘72 4th mob communications. Such good memories being a kid here! 3 pools to choose from, the NCO club where my dad was a bartender part time, the Airman’s pool and the Officers club pool which my mom was a bartender there part time. Paying a quarter to watch movies on base and riding bicycles all over Altus. Good times and thanks for the video!

Remember playing 4 MOB in flag football rainy muddy game. Receiver caught pass and I could not grab flag. Grabbed foot,he went down. I was ejected from game. They did not score. To this day I didn't remember who won!

I wonder where they got the KC 135A from. When I was out there in 2006 all they had was the C-141 and I’m sure the C-47 was somewhere out there.By the way it is a C-141B.The big difference since 2006 is the absence of C-5s because they moved the C-5 training to Lackland.

Agree, we were stationed there in 1979-1982 looks a lot different and I can't find our old home on River Dr.
Humm Lots of memories! Thanks for putting this out. It's part of the book of our life as well.

I was there from 79-84 myself. Worked at the fire dept. Was the best duty station I was at. Lots of memories from then. I heard they just opened a new fire station this year(2023). I'm still in touch with a few of the old civilian fire fighters there. Next year it will be 40 years away. I think it's time to visit and tour the base since I do have base privileges.

I was there 1968-70. Didn't recognize anything in the video. All changed. We went through town four years ago and it looked like the city of Altus had really gone downhill. Didn't bother to go to the base on that trip. Just had a beer at the Cavalier Club and went back to Texas.

Not being picky, but that's a C-141B (not A) Stretched and refueling boom receptacle. I guess that's being picky, but I was crew chief on those back in the early 80's. My son may be headed to Altus for flight training so was just checking out videos of the base. Thanks for your service btw.

I was stationed as 2d and 1st Lieutenant at Altus Air Force Base from 1956-1959. It was a Strategic Air Force Base at the time. A wing of B-47'ss was in place as was a KC97 refueling squadron. Late on we received our first B-52's and KC 135's. My office was in the very old former Officers' Club which was there when it was a an Air Training Field during the WWII. I served as an Air Base Defense Officer, an Air Police Officer, a Personal Affairs Officer and a Family Assistance Officer. A new Officers' Club had just been built as I arrived in July of 1956. I was also a musician and played with a group of local musicians for AFB events in my off duty time. I enjoyed my time at Altus. At one time during my tour of duty, I had responsibility for the Airmen's recreational facility at Lake Mangum. I enjoyed the tour you provided us with...I did not recognized very much about the base.

I remember a DiAngelo from Altus. I was an Alert Force Expeditor during his time. George Webb was Maintenance Superintendent for the pad. This last year being what it was, my focus has been closer to home. Hope things are well and say hello to your dad.

I was stationed there from 1974-77 as a Security Policeman on the flight line. Spent a lot of hours up at the alert area which I see now is totally gone. Have looked at google earth and lots of buildings have been replaced and removed. Planes are not parked on the flight line like they use to be especially in the KC-135 area.

At 1:39 left half of view the old VIP quarters are adjacent to the street and our old quarters are to the left of that on old command circle visible over vent on dashboard. It used to be a duplex then the adjacent chaplain's quarters burned down. In 1962 it was the oldest housing at AAFB but it was the best.
