The greatest song ever...including the 80's. Historical, so awesome. This is a Rock Opera. I'm 62, grew up with Long Hair Nation. Sabaton is the greatest band ever, PERIOD.
I've been studying this particular war; and one major element really is that the Swedes were played, pretty intensively, by the French; they were used to use up the HRE until France was ready to strike and finish off their opponents, including Spain, who'd been called on by the Austrians who were really themselves on the ropes almost from the get-go, with the exception of fighting off the German and Bohemian Lutherans... so what began really as a crusade, or religious war, really did blow up into a world war. For just about all of the major powers had colonies on other continents, and let us not forget that these colonies would be called on to fight, and would be raiding their crowns' opponents' shipping and settlements as well.
I know I'm excessively late but... The Swedes were payed, not played. They knew full well why France was giving them nearly a quarter of their yearly income each year, hell it was even explicitly in the treaty that the money would be used to raise up armed forces to fight (against the Habsburg German Imperial family, although the target was left unstated as they were already at war with the them). And France did fight somewhat directly in the first phase of the war, trying to sever the primary land route the Spanish were using to support the German Habsburgs through the Alps, they just promptly backed out for a few years when their army was soundly defeated. And they didn't join when they were ready, they turned around on their heel during a legal ceasefire and rejoined the war directly once Ferdinand III was able to get most of the German princes to settle for peace in 1635 and all of a sudden it was basically just Sweden and the Dutch against both Spain and Germany.
@@kirron9994 Yes, they were paid, but they were paid to die, and to wear down the HRE, thus France would end up winning... so the Swedes were played- they were used. And yes, I agree, that's precisely why the French did what they did.
You could even say the World Wars as we know them were the Third and Fourth respectively, especially if you count the Seven Years War as the second one after the Thirty Years one.
This is a poignant song, and this extended version adds more power to it. At the point in time this comment is written (January 2024), war seems on the horizon and it's spreading, from eastern Europe to the Middle East and potentially to Asia and south America. Let's hope these wars don't escalate further or violence spreads to other regions. This song is more hitting in this moment because it seems war isn't stopping- localized wars, yes- but there's always the chance these escalate. Hopefully I'm wrong, but we ought to pray for peace and hope cooler heads prevail.
If you do requests, how about a most powerful version of Powerwolf's Army of the Night? I feel like that's got a lot of potential to be awesome like your take on Fire and Forgive.
you did a great job, though I have some speculations. This song is about the thirty years war and there wasn't any paintings of that war so a bit of a mistake but nevermind
Some people are saying that this songs actually about the 30 years war, and the pictures shown don't relate, etc. That's true, but doesn't this song relate to all wars throughout history? Has man gone insane? Religion and greed? Rich or poor? Obviously some lyrics directly reference 30 years war but still.

Yes, and if I am not mistaken 30 years war is also called the World War 1 before World War 1
@@antonioljubicic9420 Quite likely at that, and the man behind the mess was Cardinal Richelieu as well!

Sounds a bit like a Klingon's idea of Paradise: a lifetime of constant war- sounds exactly like what they'd consider Heaven.

Yes I know, but I think it reflects to all the wars in a way as well.
The English version is great, but I actually find the Swedish version even better ❤
