Thanks bady, My first day in Freightliners, Ontario, at Thunderbay, temperature is - 20, your video has been too helpful, I will sleep warmer today. Thanks
Thanks you soo much. I am on a 34 hour reset at a truck stop and my trainer is home for the weekend and I couldn't remember how to set it. This is my first time alone in the truck, your video was very very informative. Thanks!!😊
your right for the most part but if you want cont cold on temp setting run it 7 clicks up cause where you have in coldest setting its at 60de and take forever to start where if you go 7 clicks it will start and stop and keep you cool
Quick question, the only way I get my apu to run continuously is by doing the optimized idle thing and also keeping my key in the on position. Is this correct? Otherwise, the apu just shuts off after 5 or so minutes. Am I okay with just leaving the key in the on position and running the apu all night while I sleep? (This is my first time working with any apu of any sort)
So my question about this feature: when we turn the AC on in the bunk, is the air being blown in from outside or is it being circulated? I don’t want to set the optimized idle if im going to wake up to the cab being full of exhaust…or not wake up I should say lol
Thanks for the great question, I called and talked to a service tech and they said that they are 100% filtered. You are perfectly safe to run it that way without fear of harming yourself.
Good video thank you. If only all models were the same. The 2024 model I was driving last night has a different configuration than yours and does not work the same way
Ive messed around with my opti idle the past 2 days and its only worked once. I set it to idle and then my bunk controls do nothing and there are no lights on the controls.
OFF- cranks once batteries are under 12.2V. Runs for 2 hours. ON- cranks based on interior temperature. The temperature is controlled by sleeper temperature gauges.
The AC will run as long as you have bunk control turned on .. in other words, the fan. The AC will run independently and the truck will start up when the battery is get low.
No, if your truck is equipped with the Park Smart upgrade you have 4 extra Group 31 batterys that run just the A/C for the bunk. They are usually housed in between the frame rails right behind the cab or in a side box. I'm sure you've found them on your pre-trip by now
When I turn on the optimized idle the engine turn on for some time with the fan&ac on then when the engine auto shut off both bunk and front fan shuts off as well and won't turn back on unless I manually turn the ignition key off then back on again it's frustrating and never use the optimize idle for this reason
Yeah it can be tricky, it all depends on how it is set up through your company. However, I have found that you must make sure that the key is turned to the on position, Not running. Just turned to the on position.
Update: after few days opti idle finally came on second time after shutting down once. It's only 72 out n working. Wish I knew what I did for it to start working correctly
@@mercpindi5522 If you don't have the optimized idle, You might be able to just engage the cruise control and hold it up until it reaches a thousand RPM and then just let it keep running hopefully.
@@mercpindi5522 well that sucks. Have you tried the trick for the trailer If you are attached to a trailer, disengage your truck parking brake and just stay parked with the trailer brake.
Well the problem I’m having is I use my bunk heater for heat and I use the Opti idle for cold . I’m curious to know if I can use the Opti idle for heat but the problem is that the truck doesn’t stay on for heat only for cold.
@Unrivaledthings I'm having this issue too. Did u ever figure it out. Heat blows hot with the truck just running. But when I use the optimized idle the heat instantly switch to cold air
When I attempted to turn on my optimized idle, the AC in the sleeper won’t turn on, and the controls in the sleeper don’t do anything but the controls up front do.
@@SeamanRunescape I'm sorry to hear that. Make sure you have the key turned to the on position, but don't start the truck. Also, some units you need to have the controls switched to the back which is usually done on the front controls. There's usually a switch. If that doesn't work, You can always talk to your company's shop or the truck manufacturer.
On that I have no clue. I've never seen it do that. I don't know if that refers to the battery where it's saying crank alarm fault... I would ask your company mechanic or a mechanic for your truck manufacturer.
For some reason, when i cut on opti idle, the unit in the back will only run to get it cold. Once the engine cuts off, the air does too. The air has been off for 3 hours now and it's 80 degrees in this truck. Am i doing something wrong? I feel like the a/c should come on much more frequently, not when it's over 80 degrees
@CarnivoreWerewolf yeah, just the key is on. I'm going to take it by the shop later. I also have idlefree system but it doesn't work. The inverter doesn't work, I think the previous driver blew a fuse
@@Being_K do you have the control turned to the red for heat? If it's not working you might have a heater core that's out or it could be something as simple as a fuse.
I’m so confused 😂. I had a ‘20 freightliner with opti idle. I left interior comfort OFF and the ac or heat would work just fine and the truck would crank after 6-8 hours and run for 90 minutes or so to recharge.. then cut back off. PERCECT AND EASY. Now I have a ‘24 and it’s IDENTICAL to the ‘20. Identical!! Except that in the OFF setting the ac only works for 10 minutes then it’s just a fan. The heat works fine. Truck cranks to recharge hours later. To use the ac.. I have to use interior comfort ON… and the truck runs and never cuts off. Wtf? That makes no sense. If it has to continually run, why have this system?
