  • For the members of the Afternoon Auxiliary to the Royal Inland Hospital (RIH), supporting the Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Substance Use Unit is about extending care through the generations. The mission of the Afternoon Auxiliary founders in 1899 - to provide special patient care equipment for RIH, continues to energize volunteers. Ambitious and dedicated, the Afternoon Auxiliary members work to raise funds to be used for the comfort, health, and welfare of patients and staff of RIH by running the very successful Thrift Seller in downtown Kamloops and the highly valued Gift Shop in the heart of Royal Inland Hospital.
When the group came together to choose a unit to support, two members, who were former school teachers spoke of their deeply held conviction, “If young people receive the guidance and support they require at the time they need it, the impact on their lives will be immeasurable.” Moved by what they heard, the Auxiliary members knew this was the unit they wanted to support. They know that caring today will carry forward to a healthier future.
