    I wish we could disable “Validating OS”. When I pick up my calc, I just want to do the math. Not wait for a boot. Its why I still use my Ti-34 MultiView or Ti-86.

    • @beartn
      @beartn 3 месяца назад +3

      It didn't always used to be this way, on calculators below rev C there was no OS validation, it just booted whatever was on it. Once they introduced rev C (boot code 5.1.5) they added this "feature".

    I still have a TI-84 Plus CE from 2015. (well, 2016, but it was used at the time.) Still works perfectly. My only guesses as to why they added that screen was to try and detect any "illegal" (assembly) software, or something that exploits loopholes in its security system. Nevertheless, they clearly implemented it very hastily, as it does not check the battery before verifying.
    Fun(?) fact: the OS validation screen was actually added to the operating system before the hardware speed upgrade. That means that for a short time, you could buy an 84+CE with the slower hardware and the OS validation. Talk about a lose-lose.

    • @TheLastMillennial
      @TheLastMillennial  3 дня назад

      No need to panic. Contact TI Cares and they will send you a new battery for free.
      You can ask to borrow a calculator from your teacher or library while you wait for a replacement. You can explain to them this is a very common issue with recent calculators. Communication with your teacher is very important if you want leniency.
      If you need a TI-84 right now for homework then you can search for a TI-84 Plus app on the app store.

      I still love the HP Prime G2 and many of my engineering friends like it too. Just be aware that the HP Prime hasn't really gotten any software updates in a few years so any issues you encounter probably won't get fixed.

      Writing a calculator from scratch is a whole different ball game than the projects I do. I've tried emulating calculators on the Pi Zero but it's far too slow for emulation. You'd be better off using Wolfram Alpha or an existing calculator application for it
