Dis/Mantle by Gordon Shadrach - Spadina Museum

Toronto History Museums presents Dis/Mantle by Gordon Shadrach at Spadina Museum, opening August 5, 2022.
This art exhibit is a reimagining of Spadina House utilizing an Afrofuturistic narrative. An immersive experience using portraiture, decorative arts, performance, and sound bringing forth the under-represented history of Black people in Toronto, the exhibit is inspired by the efforts of Black Abolitionists.
Since March, Toronto History Museums has worked with Gordon Shadrach on location at Spadina Museum in preparation for this upcoming exhibit. Working with on-location artists is an opportunity for THM to offer artists and creatives a temporary work space away from their usual environment and everyday life, to reflect, research, present and create. Creating on-location is an artist's opportunity take more than just inspiration from the surroundings and history, but to intervene and challenge colonial legacies and narratives.
