My Great Grandfather was a Fireman on to TVA railrod. I never realized it was that much work. Godd Bless him he was 99 when he passed. I value the the job you guys do on the Dollywwod line.
@Michael321990 It Depends on the time of Year. At Christmas, they run after dark, And a Few weeks in the Summer (Mabey) But, Other than that; Last train Runs at 5-6
@Michael321990 I Don't Understand what you mean by "Night time Tours" But The 2 or 3 car are good Vantage Points, but It Is Loud, and you can't get both sides in one trip
That fireman's definitely got a dirty job. Even Mike Rowe, the host of Dirty Jobs, would do that job if it were requested. I'm looking forward to riding on my first steam train, which I used to call a pufferbelly, because they always puffed from the belly of the locomotive, which was where you fed it the food, coal. Then, at water stations, you'd fill her belly with her drink, an ice cold drink of pure water for her water tender and her steam production.
Oh wait a minute now I can tell the difference between Klondike Katie's throttle and Cinderella's throttle now I thought they had the same throttle shape.
trevor overholt No. This Hancock belongs to Dollywood. There is a High Pressure that belongs to another engineer. It was on 70 so much, because John was the main engineer and He kept it on the engine.

I love how at 2:32 he threw a bottle into the firebox lol
Idk if that’s good or not for a coal/steam powered engine like her.
@@SouthernSteam38Playz It’s okay to do, I have done it
AL did a good blowing the whistle
DE #70 is my second favorite locomotive behind SOU #4501
That seems to be a slow shovelin fireman there. lol
Good video. Thanks for posting. Makes me want to go see it.
@CSX6000 Thank you! I have another one that will be up in about 20-30 mins!

Dude this is freakin' awesome!!
Great video! At 2:32 the engineer throws his empty plastic bottle into the firebox. :)
well thats a way to preserve fuel
He did a good job blowing the whistle
That bottle wasn’t empty.. if you pause at the exact moment it is NOT empty.
@@SouthernSteam38Playz You are definitely right. Good catch!
I remember my first train ride on that exact train when I was little. What ever happened to Dirk? He was one of the engineers.
It's a hancock 3 chime, right?
Oh wait a minute now I can tell the difference between Klondike Katie's throttle and Cinderella's throttle now I thought they had the same throttle shape.
wow, what type of whistle? hancock?
@isthisright84 same way they did on the railroad. start out as fireman and work your way up.
How many steam trains does Dollywood have, and what is the distance for a trip through Dollywood, and how much coal is consumed per trip.
the trip is 5 miles and and a average of 3-7 tons of coal per day so i guess about 1/2 ton per trip
The own 3 of them. Number 70, 71, and 192. 71 is in disrepair at the moment. And they also have the remains of 72 as well
How does one become an engineer at Dollywood?
@trainguy3 Yes, What about it?
I know it’s isn’t, but almost sounds like 630s v&sw.
Is that the original whistle? If not, then where is it from. It's beautiful.

Chris Fields yes it is

i like your expression wow!

your welcome
at 8:30 what is that sound
I would expect that just metal groans from the engine riding from the rails.
@@SouthernSteam38Playz He pushes a pedal before it happens
"Dollywood"???
@TNtrainboy15 If it will get me a good Shot, Ill do it
Jeff, do you just love beating your camera to shit? Haha, great video!
@trainguy3 Google it....
make the young kid shovel the coal. kids these days have no respect for thier elders. if he wouldn't, ki k him off the train.
They probably alternate on runs. And if not, it's all in who is scheduled to run and who is scheduled to fire.
The young kid was the qualified engineer. The fireman was a recent hire.
AZRAEL 444 engineer is a promoted position. The "young kid" obviously had seniority on the older guy.
Sometimes, the elders like to fire as well. My dad is 60 years old and he still prefers to fire a trip or two when we're on together.
That is John hiller and he was the lead engineer
