Resplendent Angel is one of my favorite cards ever printed

This decks looks like it CRUSHES mono red. Even their good draws when they're on the play. Definitely going to play this one.

Still haven't really tried explorer. Is the explore meta limited to/plauged by a few go-to competative decks?
@@AgentPazuzu if you play ranked or bo3 events it can get grindy, but usually you get a lot of fun matchups. I played a couple of play queue matches as Rakdos Midrange and Dimir Rogues and ran into Amalia / Wildgrowth Walker combo and Invasion of Alara cascade combo.
The format is cool because you can either play to win, or play for fun, or even both (unless you get thoughtseized every game lol)
Yesterday I played an explorer game with an Orzhov angels lifegain deck I just made and played an opponent with probably 95% the same deck. The game took like 45 minutes and ended in a draw. He got the faceless haven/book of exalted deeds combo, but I was at 1756 life to his -705 at the draw. I also had the same combo in my library waiting to be drawn lol (thanks to an older video that I watched from this channel)! The turn he decided to finally block the attack lasted well over 30 seconds and most of it took place off screen. The draw was because his blocks resulted in 148 triggers on Bishop of Wings, which each one triggered 4 times 4 life gain. He was going to gain over 2300 life that turn! He got from -1133 to -705 then the draw happened from timeouts with 122 of the 148 triggers (each times 4 still) not done. Nothing was in either graveyard. It was majestic. I know CGB and any fans of his would appreciate this and thanks if you read all the way!

Resplendent Angel reminds me of when I first played standard, not sure how meta it was but because I played a Ajani Pridemate cat lifegain deck it was mirrors everywhere. Games were just two huge Pridemates hitting each other and ending with ridiculous stalemates were players had over 1k life.
Man, lifegain stalemates are fun if you like to see numbers go up in a ridiculous amount
I miss stalemates in general in magic, that's such a cool moment where every decision matters to tip it to your side
I'd love to see what CGB could do with the millennium calendar

Fun stuff! :D I really liked using the Thran Portal for mana fixing in my lifegain brew since the damage is far less significant. Amalia and Voice are monsters and I'd love to make a lifegain deck that can actually compete with domain.Thanks for the video!

I was doing Mono White Healing Soldiers... Switched to trying to incorporate Sheoldred with no luck, but this helps a lot

Lifegain was my first fav deck when I started playing and it was so strong at the time with cards like Heliod, Daxos, Linden, Alseid, Speaker, Righteous Valk, Skyclave Maul and I even played boros sometimes for the hmm… Blade Historian (?) that could give double strike to someone 😌

Interesting take on lifegain! Really like the deck
While orzhov does seem better on paper I've found better succes with seles leveraging augar and sigarda for card advantage. Playing off the top also makes resplendant more viable without bishop making life easy.
As a control player myself, I truly cannot wait until Wandering Emperor rotates out
I like this deck because it is full of removal that incidentally gains life. Prob does just as well without as many lifegain payoffs
Liking this before I even see the games. This is one of my fav archetypes! May get me back into Arena for this :)

Which Johnny-bait line is more likely to actually come up in games: The "exactly 20 power" on Amalia or the 1000 time counters on Millennium Calendar?
The "exactly 20 power" is a emergency break to not get into an infinite loop with Wildgrowth Walker ("Whenever a creature you control explores, put a +1/+1 counter on Wildgrowth Walker and you gain 3 life.")
Without that "exactly 20 power" you could get unlimited explore whenever you get life and get life when you explore.
Getting TMC to 1000 counters isn't too difficult

Deep Cavern Bat could be interesting in this type of deck. The little bat helps with life gain and can exile a sweeper or removal from opponent's hand.

Does anything even rotate out these days? I thought a lot of the cards opponents have been playing would have been gone by now.
They made rotation changes this year by extending another year so midnight hunt, kamigawa, capenna, crimson vow won't rotate until next year.

I call bullshit on going 8-1. Arena hoses your deck, rigging your matches and draws and opening hand.
Amalia seems like something for legends. getting extra lands and selection might be better than rona for that deck.

I don't critique you much, but you can turn off the ability to record your system sounds.
Why not show games where you loose as you must have with this deck as the mana base are horrible.

This deck completely fails the current standard meta because standard is currently filled to the brim with board wipes that this deck has no answer for as well as enchantments which this deck can't remove.
Now im one of those guys.

The only thing you can win against is Mono red
- Enchantments get bigger and wider faster with more card draw
- ramp board wipes one time and then plays atraxa
- mill does the same
- soldiers get too big too fast too
- black just kills everything you have and then has a bigger creature
