Jason frequently warned Sonny that they needed more protection and Sonny was so determined to prove to Kate that guards were not needed, that he slacked off. Jason could not be with the kids 24 hours a day. It was up to the person they were with to protect them. That was Sonny. He was so busy with Kate that he was not even aware for a moment that Michael had been shot. Other people were calling for 911 before he even realized what happened. Sonny yells that if Jason had taken out the Zacaras who did it. this would not have happened. But it was not the Zacaras who did it.
Sonny was so wrong blaming Jason for Michael being shot in the head. Carly defended Jason and putting the blame on Sonny because he pushed Kate out of the way instead of protection his son.
Carly had every right to go off like that. Sonny trying to show Michael he was running a legitimate business was a joke and Kate is lucky Jason was there or some major damage would’ve went down in GH! I can’t and never could stand Kate. I liked Connie ;)
If Sam and Jason we still together I’m sorry but Michael would never have gotten shot because Jason would not have been distracted. That’s what Elizabeth does. She is so needy and needs to see him all the time that she takes him away from his business and protecting sonny and his family. Jason has always done that from the beginning and sam was always ok with that .
This is where everything started to spiral down and out of control for Jason because he was just not paying attention to anything that was important and that mattered to him in his life previously to Jake being born. While trying to attempt a so called "relationship" with Elizabeth, Jason lost all focus and all perspective on what was important. Also, he continuesly forgot about his commitments and responsibilities. Besides the fact, that he constantly was compromising himself time and time again and he was living on the web of lies created by Elizabeth. Jason had been so distracted that he didn't even tell Carly that Michael was playing around with guns. Due to that Michael shot Kate, then he ran away and because Carly went after Michael she lost her baby. The truth of the matter was that Jason had been asleep at the wheel for a while now. Even Sonny told him as much during the 03/28/08 episode when he expressly told Jason the following: "this thing with Elizabeth and your kid has got you very distracted and I am just telling you, you need to figure out how to deal with it because it's not working right now, you know that in this business one mistake can cost you." And here it is, as a direct consequence of Jason being distracted, Michael got shot and from then on everything came crashing down. Michael getting shot was partially Jason's fault because it happened on his watch. There was no justification and no excuse for Jason's behavior. Sonny tried to talk to Jason about what was going on with him. Sonny asked him why he was so distracted but Jason chose to keep on lying. Sonny kept asking what was wrong and Jason said nothing. Carly did the same thing and Jason ignored her too. By the way, Sam warned Jason that something like this could happened. But Jason chose to ignore everyone. Now, here are the devastating consequences of his choices. Funny thing is that, even Jason himself acknowledge that ever since he found out that he is Jake's father he is being lying non-stop. And no matter how hard he tried to justify it people keep getting hurt. That is exactly what he told Spinelli during the 03/27/08 episode. We usually don't agree with Sonny in a lot of things but regarding this situation he had every right to be angry at Jason and to think he was at fault. The truth was that Jason wasn't complying with all the duties and responsibilities of his job. Simply put, he was not doing his job. We insist that it is anything but love when the person you are with turned you into the worse version of yourself. That is exactly what happened the time Jason struggled to be with Elizabeth. Jason was the worse version of himself when he was with Elizabeth. Especially, because he couldn't be true to himself so how could he be honest with anyone else. That is a statement of fact.
