It was very informative when you said:
    Raising: wrist , elbow, shoulder
    Lowering: shoulder, elbow, wrist
    Thank you!

Thanks, Aren. It does depend on the style and the weapon (sword or bokken) but for O Sensei's Aikido b okken, this is the style.

I thought of one story. The duel on Ganryujima(1612). The person swinging the wooden sword in the air was Miyamoto Musashi, and the person receiving it with a real sword was Sasaki Kojiro. Miyamoto Musashi, who fought with a wooden sword, killed Sasaki Kojiro with a wooden sword. It's really dangerous if someone watch a video and play with a wooden sword.

It's interesting you emphasize front hand motion. I am often admonished for using that hand. (I'm TAA) Also, admonished for your same wrist motion ending the strike.

I'm not sure I get your point. Whereas I do know the senior TAA teachers, I never trained within the TAA, so I have no reference there. But for the 8 years I lived and trained in with Saito Sensei in Iwama, this is the method that was taught and done with in the dojo.

Hallo sensei, may i ask who decides the correct distance between uke and tori and who initiate the sequence (tori strikes and uke blocks, uke blocks and tori changes direction)? Thanks!

Hi Wolfram, first we need to clarify terms. In Aikido Ken the "attacker" is called the "Uchi Tachi" (lit. the person who strikes) and the defender is called the "Uke Tachi" (lit. the person who receives) I'll use these terms going forward.
The distance is decided by the function of the interaction. When the Uchi Tachi attacks they must close the distance in order to reach the intended target. For example, if striking the head then they must step in to reach the target with the "mono uchi" the last 15 cm. of the bokken, and with arms in the correct extension. Too close and they will be hitting with the middle of the bokken, to far and they won't reach the target. It's common sense, but important to say. Based on this proper attack the Uke Tachi will set the "Ma'ai" (combative distance) according to the intended function. If Uke Tach wants to stay outside of the attack they will step back the same amount as the Uchi Tachi steps in. If the Uke Tachi want to neutralize the attack they will stay on the spot and enter with the bokken point close, but not touching the Uchi Tachi. If the Uke Tachi wants to counter they will need to step in the reach the intended target.
So Uchi Tachi sets the distance first buy entering to reach the intended target. Uke Tachi will blend with this attach and set the distance according to what they want to do... stray outside, hold the middle, or enter.
      Hope this helps.
