    Nice. We need to see more No-Gi Judo. Historically, when Jigiro Kano created Judo, he made all his younger and beginner students train and randori with no-gi and wouldn’t allow them to wear one until they were ready to advance to that stage of training. Why Judo school abandoned what Kano established is a mystery. Japanese traditionalism and politics in Judo has limited it.

      Where I can get this information about Kano making beginners train without wagi, not allowing them to use until they're ready?

      I’ve read a lot of books about judo. Sounds like you took that “history” out of your ass.

    @3:02 That was a great O soto. Awesome scramble. Definitely want to see more of this stuff.

      It almost looked like he baited the foward step for the O soto by doing that jump split step thing. Very cool stuff

    My wife just looked at me like a weirdo when I exerted NICE! on that Ouchi counter. And on the other side, there's not a more deservingly earned nickname than JFLO.

    Amazing video. Genuine question though, what makes this judo if leg grabbing with arms was allowed during the round? Footsweep inclusion?

    • @onejudoka
      @onejudoka  4 месяца назад +3

      Is kataguruma still a judo technique even though it is illegal in modern judo competitions? I don't respect or prescribe what the IJF and IOC did to judo. I practice Kodokan Judo.

      @@onejudoka thanks for answering. So when you do these rounds, what are the constraints you place on what is allowed and what is not? What is the goal for both people?

    • @onejudoka
      @onejudoka  4 месяца назад +2

      The goal of these rounds is to ground your opponent with control at the end. Not many constraints other than let them up once control is established

    No-gi judo looks quite similar to wrestling

    • @giovanirafael
      @giovanirafael 11 месяцев назад +3

      Not so much tbh cuz in wrestling the guys go for both legs to get the takedown, in judo not so much, they try for control by holding on to the wrists if you look closely.

    • @philipwhitcomb5358
      @philipwhitcomb5358 4 месяца назад +1

      @@giovanirafaelThat's incorrect. Plenty of wrestling is purely upper body takedowns although lower body takedowns are the best for some practitioners. And what you just described for judokas is the same thing used in wrestling which is known as 'hand fighting', something which is of the utmost importance in the sport. Without hand fighting how else would they create the necessary entries for their takedowns?

    • @gizmo19351
      @gizmo19351 4 месяца назад +3

      @@philipwhitcomb5358i think he's more trying to emphasize that there is some difference between the two. Judo is typically only upper body, very little lower body work. Wrestling, depending on the style, is definitely upper body and lower body. I don't think he was implying that in wrestling there is no upper body technique, there's a whole style for it actually greco-roman :D
