it depends on the type of work. if you need to do processing and thinking, writing, calculating, learning, NO music at all, is the best. music does waste some of your brain CPU cycles, so you will be less efficient. it also triggers emotions, that is disturbing for your brain CPU. if i am painting, that requires triggering emotions and right hemisphere of brain, then some of the tracks of (two steps from hell), or liszt, totentanz, or musgorsky or supibelious are useful, as i paint war, revolution and violent subjects most of the time. if i paint for kids (rare), this type of bland, dead music is useful, depends on which part of your brain you want to stimulate to get what result, music is enhancing or destructive for productivity.
