Don Walker's acceptance speech on behalf of Cold Chisel, accepting the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music, live at the 2016 APRA Music Awards.
I have just come across this video. You would not believe how much this made me cry! As an adult man , I have grown up with cold chisel , got drunk, got bloody, got unconscious. This speech and the dignity that Don spoke with , made me cry. We all have people that help us. whether we acknowledge them or not is up to us. We all have demons that haunt us from our past , but with determination we can be successful. You people as individuals make a difference, whether you know or not.
I've been around this planet for over sixty years and this is the best, the very best acceptance speech I've ever heard. Brilliant, Don Walker. Thanks Cold Chisel for providing the best music in my life as an Aussie.
I feel privileged to have been a young lad that has had this incredible band constantly touring and providing the most memorable concerts of my life I’ll take these memories to the grave Thanks Cold Chisel
I can only say 'thanks boys because your music helped me through my darkest hours, pulled me from the depths of dis-pare & filled my heart with music, you inspired me & gave me hope when non seemed to be within grasp....you kept me alive, so thank you Cold Chisel I'm ever so grateful that I've listened to your records, seen you live & absorbed that wild energy, you have made a big difference to the life I was living in, to the life I now truly enjoy, & thanks to everyone who made it all happen, this country will always be forever grateful for you all.
There are no words to describe how good this band are I was lucky to see them two nights in a row in Cooma NSW before they had an album out I knew then I had witnessed something very special thanks boys 🍺💜

well done all of you for performing and writing some of the best music ever, Rosaline, One Long Day, etc so many good times in South Australia and many who aren't with us today!
Every day somebody must say to Mr Walker ,how did ya do it? what inspired you? how did you know? blah blah!! As a music lover especially Australian music Mr walker will go down in history as oz best songsmith... & to all those hundreds of others out their who help with the band &( impossible to get a mention) I FUCKEN THANK YOU....
Don has a way with words, hence why He's the primary songwriter. He can say "thank you" and "fuck you" to the same person in the same breath and sincerely mean both. The man who wrote the beautiful and classy poetry that is I'm Gonna Roll Ya, 🤣
Thank you for mentioning Michael Porter . I hung out with his younger brother Ross and bands was all ways at his parents house . Jimmy was often there. I thought a mention to Mr Mrs Porter Elizabeth Fields in his books would be appreciated by all the Lads that hung out there.
Wow Don what a legend... 15 + minutes and entertaining to fans, probably not so much to a 7 yo 😂So I will make him watch this speech when he plays up on me lol.
The best award speech I've ever heard. Absolute gentleman the Don.

Perfect speech, Don . It all needed to be said . You did it beautifully .
A 15 minute insight into a great Man.
Don Walker is all class.
Just love this band. What an empty landscape the Australian music industry would have been without them.
What a classy speech.
What a class act.
the whole speech was about everyone who got them where they are/where even though the award was about the band!

His Lyrics are legendary. As this oration should be.

There is about 5 or six songs in that delivery from One of The Greatest Songwriters of all time. Get to work Don. :)
Thank you for mentioning Michael Porter . I hung out with his younger brother Ross and bands was all ways at his parents house . Jimmy was often there. I thought a mention to Mr Mrs Porter Elizabeth Fields in his books would be appreciated by all the Lads that hung out there.
Don Walker sounds so Aussie! ... a lot like Sandy Stone (Barry Humphries' creation). He's a Queenslander of course so it makes sense. Great speech.
love it
come to Madelaide Don!
Wow Don what a legend... 15 + minutes and entertaining to fans, probably not so much to a 7 yo 😂So I will make him watch this speech when he plays up on me lol.
What does he say at 13:51? "........ could say the same thing?"
“It would be great if Opera Australia could say the same thing.”
@@Extrikit Thanks for that!
I love the dig at government subsidies for one art form but not another which is nothing more than cultural elitism.
Don would be a great politician, but he'd be wasted amongst the mediocrity. RIP Allan Darlow & Billy Rowe.
