I've never had issues from dans fish. Never lost a single one! All came in healthy, colorful and ready to eat.
When I was a kid in the early 90s the local big store always kept feeders in a different tank. I’m amazed at going into stores now seeing dead fish on display- so many the one worker can’t deal with it all. Water on the floor. Need a shower after leaving. Scared to buy the plants. Who knows what’s in the air😅.

Reviews generally help. I’ve used several Online Retailers and a few EBay that have worked well. I do have a few big box stores locally and only a couple of truly independent local shops.
There is only 1 Petco within 8 hours drive for me, and unfortunately I'm not quite at the point of being able to afford the $170 shipping fee for the shrimp I wanted... So Petco it is for me... For now. At least they seem to be doing better than some other places I've seen. Could be worse.
I have either two box stores with limited selection or two lfs that are over an hour away. The one I will never buy fish from again. I told myself no the first time and should have listened. The second is much better but not quarantine every thing coming in place. But they were upfront about it and general knowledge was good. I do prefer Dan's Fish. I have bought from Aquatic Arts, Flip, Shrimpy and Aqua Huna.
Everytime I go into my petsmart fish are flashing and tons of dead and dying feeder goldfish sooo the fact they share tank water and almost every tank has a sick dying or dead fish is scary and I refuse to buy from them. Not to even mention their poor bettas 😢
