In 1993 I was a coach driver. I took a youth party on an adventure holiday to from Derry to France. I never stopped laughing for the whole two weeks. I believe that these girls make the show.
I hope this is as big in America through Netflix as it is in England and Ireland. I can't stop re-watching it. My most re-watched show since Raising Hope. Excited for season 2 and the following seasons. Have more Orla moments she's my favorite😂
I live in Derry and have a hard time understanding stuff that they say in the show, because i personally don't know any girls or women that talk like they do.
I’m from Scotland but my family are all from Northern Ireland so I grew up with the accent. Sometimes I catch myself saying certain words in a Northern Irish accent 😂 Derry Girls is absolutely great. One of the best comedy series I’ve ever watched.
My in-laws are all in Derry and my wife grew up in the Bogside and Creggan during the troubles. My family all love the show and say how on point it is. We live in Canada and we are getting all out Canadian friends into the show...though we do have to provide some translation.
I’m from Philippines and I watched Derry Girls because I’m waiting for Nicola Coughlan’s Season 3 on Bridgerton. This one cracked me up. The accent is too thiccccc and the jokes are on point! ❤️🤪
I grew up with the Irish accent as my mother Frances McCourt came from Derry in the 1930.s.I love this show and love and understand the Derry accent. Hope they do more soon.
From Iceland here. This accent is actually easier for me to understand than London Cockney though my mother is actually English from London . The pronunciation of English words with a Derry accent sounds a bit like an Icelander/Icelandic speaking English, it probably has something to do with the Celtic and Gaelic roots of both Irish and Icelandic , so it makes it so easy for us Icelanders to understand this show . But after all that's what accents really are . It is when a population which had its own language becomes forced to speak another language . The old pronunciation , rhythmic and tones of the original language remains and this becomes an accent , while the original language becomes a dialect . That's why it is so important to preserve accents as they are sometimes the only thing that remains from an original language .
I simply love how Louisa Harland keeps her sleeves over her hands, just like Orla does in the show. Seems to have been something Louisa added to Orla's character herself :-)
Wait, what? Nolan isn't Sister Michael? Derry won an All-Ireland football championship in the 90's but they couldn't put it in the show because it still seemed too unrealistic.
Have i missed the bus on Funny ? The dead bird and the girl getting locked in ! The people in the crowd didn't Laugh... Smile ... or Cry ? WTH. But still love the crack ? if thats the way to spell it ;-)
Nicola(Clare) allow other people to talk in the interview. Fucks sake it would have been nice to hear from Louisa(Orla). Sure she could not get a word in. You hogged the interview
Patrick Linnane ya maybe but common sense though should have prevailed from her end. Not giving a person a chance to speak is the worse self absorbing aspect. Me me I me me oh and I. Pat kenny rte was terrible. Asked a question, never waited for the answer. Too busy talking
P C oh hi! Nicola here, so Louisa was nervous and asked us to fill in the gaps in the interview because she didn’t feel as comfortable talking, she’s my mate so I was looking out for her. Also I wasn’t on the Pat Kenny show, cheers!
Nicola Coughlan pat kenny is long gone off tv. I gave him as an example as he talked too much back in the day. Anyway im not the only one who thought d same. Plenty of times in the interview the other girls went to speak but ya cut across them. Watch back if im delirious. Ull see. You are a great actress. No doubt you will do more interviews. Just allow others to chat especially when they try.
P C I see how it came across that way but with all due respect I know our group dynamic, Louisa asked me to fill dead air so I did. She’s eloquent and brilliant and you’ll get plenty of chances to hear her chat in interviews in the future I hope. Also I thought you meant Pat Kenny’s radio show as that’s still running. All the best
First off, these things can be nerve wracking as hell. She did perfectly fine! Nicola is being a good friend & someone’s got to take the lead! I think Louisa was amazing!
@@thesaintpatrickscrossisthe1548 It's Derry! only loyalists call it by the English name..... strange!.... maybe it makes them feel like they live in London and not Ireland.
I just finished watching Derry girls last night and watching young offenders now and I'm just thinking ....Ireland is such a funny country ...... great actors here
I watched the young offenders too after watching Derry girls and honestly have to come to really really enjoy Irish comedy. I'm Indian and have been recommending Derry girls to all my friends. Love Father Ted too!
kiwirk c The writer of Derry Girls has said she has gotten emails from Kashmir complimenting her on the show, saying it reminded them of their local situation. It’s crazy how popular it has become globally!
Although I'm only of Irish descent, I have no trouble understanding the script in this amazing series. It is so funny and yet very sharply observant of all the emotions that must have been around at the time. My wife who is from Dundee says they talk too fast for her to follow - ! Pot & kettle comes to mind - !
I'm a Londoner and I think this show is fantastic. I love it that each girl has their own quirky way. Very funny and I understand what they are saying. No need for sub titles. Just brilliant!!
