Whenever I want to know what book I should buy next, I keep coming back to your recommendations. “The Decline and Fall of the Catholic Church” is the one I’m buying next
Thank you so much. I was going through Christian history books and trying to find out which are good and which are bad can be very hard and time consuming. I'm glad you made this video it's very useful.
Thank you so much, Mr. Bryan. for sharing with us the history books about the Catholic Church. I wish if you do explain to us the Bible Old Testament and the New Testament and explain the catechisms of the Catholic Church. I will appreciate it for you. God bless you and bless your family. 🙏
Hey thank you for all your videos. What book would you recommend for learning the culture and background of Bible period? A few I saw online was - 1. The Baker Illustrated Bible Background Commentary 2. The IVP Bible Background Commentary 3. Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible
Love it! I would really love to read that encyclopedia of heretics and heresies. My favorite Church history books are: "Church History" by Eusebius, a 4th centruy bishop of Caesarea who gives a chronological account of the development of Christianity from the 1st century to the 4th century, including many quotes by the Church Fathers and their writings against the heresies of the Early Church. "Antiquities of the Jews" and "The Jewish War" by Flavius Josephus, a Roman-Jewish historian of the 1st century who documents the entire history of the Jewish religion up to the time of Christ and the following war against the Jewish people by Rome, filling in much information that is only briefly touched on (for example in the books of Maccabees) or left out entirely. If you have ever wondered why the names of countries in the Bible seem completely unfamiliar or wanted to know what happened to the temple, I highly recommend reading both of these books together.
I really appreciate what this guy is trying to do. I'm trying to cultivate a Catholic library and I have been watching different videos on RUclips to get some recommendations. That said, I went on Amazon and researched all but the last four books in this video. Unfortunately, many of these books sound a bit sketch. Many of them don't contain bibliographies or resource pages. This is a big problem for me because I don't want to be told what to think, I want the truth. Many of these authors claim they have doctorates on the subject they are writing about. Because they have these degrees I find it very sloppy that they didn't do a better job providing resources. I highly recommend researching these books before purchasing. How the Catholic Church built western civilization is the only one that sounds like it was written by a professional.
Thank you Bryan for your recommendation of history books. I am Protestant but now seeing my church falling to forces of modernists lgbtq+ and Marxists.
@@davidsoto4394 I graduated with b.a. degree in history. No I don’t teach. God use history to witness to me regarding Jesus, His Word and His church that He is building.
I have read two in your list: The concise History and How Catholic Church Built the Western Civilization. I am curious about your thoughts on A History of Christianity by Diarmiad Mcculloch.
The Dark Ages reminds me of the Bruce Almighty movie: Bruce- Where are you going? God- I'm taking a vacation. Bruce- God doesn't take vacations. Does he? God- Haven't you heard of the Dark Ages?
Can you do a video on the video john macarthur on the evangelical attraction to the Catholic Church? Whoever posted it wouldn’t allow comments. As a former Protestant of some sort, I could tell him why I became Catholic. Because it’s true. I’ve actually known since I was maybe 5-6, but my family was so Catholic hating, I couldn’t join. Also, I was under age. I didn’t know I had an aunt who is Catholic I maybe could have stayed with. I wanted to be a nun at 5, but they made fun of me so much I started saying I wanted to be a veterinarian.
How is your family still anti-catholic? Or did they come into the Catholic Church? I'm glad you were attracted to the church and have found the truth. May God bless you.
Hi bryan. Can you give me a gre examples about the catacombs from the early church that testify of the practice of catholic dogma e.g art of mary ,prayer to saints and the dead, celebration of mass.
We are on vacation right now. If you could ask this question again next week when we are back, we will give you some information on the catacombs. God bless.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial That’s genuinely funny, and seems to be offered in a spirit of good humor, so I’ll take it as such. :-) Nonetheless, you see the problem with declaring everything which does not agree with Catholic tradition “Protestant”, don’t you? I mean honestly, I’ve studied some passages with native speakers of modern Greek, who are also experts in ancient Koine. Some don’t even speak English very well. It’s pretty funny to hear an old man with a thick accent tell you “It no say what the Catholic say like that. Nobody who know the Greek think so, but the Catholic they do. Go figure”. And I would not avoid considering the very subtle distinctions drawn by Catholic scholars. It just seems apparent that they are trying too hard to stretch certain passages to mean something which a plain common reading does not support. And this is the problem with having such a strong intellectual tradition, as the Catholic Church does indeed have. Very smart people are as prone to crafting and teaching barely believable fantasies as they are discerning plain truth.
That's a misconception actually. Not everyone who disagrees with us is an anti-catholic. In fact, we would say that most Protestants are not anti-catholic. There's a huge difference, and an anti-catholic is a whole different animal. They are far more extreme, rude, hateful, condemnatory, I'm having an amazing talent do not be able to stay on topic or have a very intellectual conversation. Mini protestants, even if they disagree, can have a civil conversation, but anti-Catholics can't. The rabid and angry. It's interesting, because the Catholics teach what the earliest Christians talk, and countless Greek Scholars agree with the Catholic church. Even Protestant Greek and New Testament scholars agree with the Catholic Church on many things. The sad thing is, Protestants can't even agree with each other, and that includes the Protestant scholars. They're all coming from their own traditions and interpret things through the lens of their own traditions. The claim that to have a strong intellectual tradition means that you Craft Fantasies is a huge claim without any facts. Conversely, It's usually the opposite. Famous people who have deep intellectualism that don't Craft Fantasies or as those who don't have deep intellectual roots often fall into creating heresies which is what the Bible even talked about.
What do we do with the 'church fathers'? WE IGNORE THEM! Why? Because despite the fact that Jesus apostles ( who gave us the Nt!) were "unlettere & ordinary men" Acts 4:13, most of the 'churuch fathers' were from priviledged, wealthy families who had recieved higher education in Greek philosophy e.t.c. Their writings with the 'take' on LOGOS, PHYKE, HADES where the ideas of 3rd century BCE Aristotle & Plato & NOT the gospels or epistles! Paul stated that "God chose the FOOLISH things of the world to put the wise to shame" 1 Coor 1:27) Yes "Men will arise and speak 'twisted' things to draw the disciples away to themsleves" (Acts 20:28-30)
